The xG table is interesting
Haji's xG is 10.1 he has 8
Armstrong 13.8 and he has 11

Haji isn't out of step with the other top players at all and it does tend to support the argument that we are not creating very much (which is actually pretty obvious really.) Clearly he should have had two or three pens (at least) on top of that recently...

I think the issue is more he doesn’t do much for the team and it becomes more obvious when he isn’t scoring goals.

Everyone presumes Haji wants to play in the world cup . I personally think he doesn't want the job & would rather be on the each with his new bride.

He should of scored that header easy chance and has missed a few like tha, he is shit.Ive never been a fan just to lazy and is powder puff player easily muscled out of challenges and bullied my most CB.If someone comes knocking sell him and use that money to get a proper CF.

He has scored 40 in his 104 games for us so far. Not many strikers we have had in our history have scored at a higher rate. Even allowing for his drought now he could still easily net 15 goals this season. Asante and Torp set to return i fully expect the whole team to start scoring again soon enough.

The best strikers will average around 1 in 3 games perhaps a little more. Dalglish had a 0.4 ratio for example. They all have slumps in confidence and periods where the team isn't playing well around them that balance the odd hat trick and the more lucky spells. xG, I guess, averages all of that out so you are left with a stat that's not very sensitive but one that reflects reality a bit more closely!

To be fair you wanted to sell off Haji before and sign Macauley Langstaff who has 3 goals in 51 games in this league

And we've already got Thomas, Woolf, and Lati as right sided CB. Dont think we need another.

Sent from my SM-S711B using Tapatalk

Charlie Hughes is a left sided CB. Has played on the left for years but yes he is right footed.

No xG really isn't interesting tbh - my eyes glaze over everytime I see a post mentioning it
It's akin to seeing a maths equation in the middle of a football thread

another issue with xG is it doesn’t factor in who the chance falls to and their quality. For example, the chances of Haaland finishing a chance should be far higher than if the identical fell to someone like Haji Wright or Emile Heskey.

In that case you would see all the best strikers with many more goals that xG and that's not the case. It only tends to happen over a small number of games and averages out.

True think I'm just as frustrated as everyone else including Wright but his confidence has gone. That simple header could of given him the confidence we need to get us to the premiership but the longer this run goes on the frustrated fans and FL will get got to take your chances hopefully BTA return sparks everyone into playing better as I think we look like blowing it at the minute. But the two new lads look good especially esse.

This thread: “I know he scores far more than any other striker I just don’t feel his vibe ya know? Can we get Patrick Bamford in?”

They’re weird and frustrating strikers but both score goals at a much better rate than anyone you’d bring in so you really are talking about fewer goals for some hold up play or whatever. I’m more concerned with the lack of impact our 10 is having than our 9 TBH. The wings too are low on impact but get little scrutiny.

Problem is every football fan thinks every chance should be a goal .

Thats what it all boils down to .

"Has to score that " is the most common phrase used up and down the country im sure 😂 we all do it
If only there was some kind of metric to judge how often you’d expect someone to actually score a certain chance

I think Haji will come good and happy to have that bookmarked. Clearly feeling the pressure just based on Lampard when he took him off.

Clearly a good player there and if I’m honest I think the teams tempo atm is killing him. Constantly slowing the game down and then going down the wings as opposed to being more flexible earlier in the season.

Wouldn’t mind us bringing in a different type of striker but genuinely feel atm, he would massively benefit from BTAs return or a more dynamic ten (Esse) to allow him more space to play in.

Oggy was talking yesterday about the through ball from midfield that splits the defence being lacking from our game. That's what Torpy can do and very much what Haji wants playing off the shoulder. That needs vision but if also needs some speed in the build up play that I've not seen much of for weeks. When things are laborious it allows defenders such as Wilmot yesterday (and Ballard in the playoffs) the advantage.

We genuinely need to get back the pace in our game. Been missing for a while now and it really limits what our forwards can do

I think it will. My theory is they've been overtraining to get an advantage in the early season and they're all fatigued. Obviously the flu issue and the thin squad hasn't helped but the staff behind the scenes need to find the right balance and that means more rotation in all positions. KKH could have been swapped on the hour for Milan in a lot of games to give one example but Woolfie, Bidwell etc etc

These figures keep getting bandied around in comparison to other strikers we have had.
How many of our other strikers have had the luxury of playing the majority of their games in a team challenging for promotion each season?

Why does that matter? I didnt hear you complaining when he scored 8 in his first 10 games. Does this mean if he now goes on to score another 10 goals this season it wont be his good work it will be the team around him?

Overtraining to get ahead of the curve... That's an interesting theory. I'm not sure what the reasons for the decline in form from the whole team is. I just think others have figured us out and the close attention Grimes is getting has been overwhelming. He's not getting the time or space anymore.

He's another one playing nearly every minute of every game.

Like the one Esse did but wright fucked about with it rather than getting a shot off?

Or the one where he had a headstart but the defender caught him up and brushed him off the ball like he wasn't even there?

We all know he's lacking coinfidence. Some our fans don't help expecting two or three goals per game for a couple of sniffs! When the team isn't doing well the strikers just can't make up for it every time.

Wright cant, or will not head a ball. He's either scared to attack it or just has never had the technique. He jumps and makes the effort then lets it hit him rather than going to meet it and put it where he wants. Heading as we all know on here because i imagine we have all played whether it was at school or the pig and ferret pub side, is a instinctive art you have going into football or don't. I've said it before David Speedy who was one of the best headers of the ball I've seen, was half the size of Wright but would have scored that chance yesterday with his eyes closed.

Speedie scored some amazing headers , often from distance around the penalty spot that required technique and power.

Class is permanent. Form is temporary. We’ve been spoilt by the free flow of goals in the first half of the season. Wright is quality - his goals prove it - but we are determined to undermine him.
