Had a few beers last weekend. Didn't massively enjoy them, might try a few more this weekend to see if there is any progress.

Haven't done dry Jan but have cut back a fair bit, no or certainly very seldom week night drinking and cut the volume at weekends. Not that I was boozing to hangover levels often in any case. Sleeping better for it nevertheless.

I'm going to see dry January out but don't think I'll do it again unless for some unbeknown reason my drinking goes out of control.

Christmas aside I didn't drink too much anyway (a couple during a week, a few on Friday and a few on Saturday) and other than waking up on a Sat and Sun without the minor fuzzy feeling that even a couple of beers gives you I've not noticed a difference.

Definitely worth giving it a go if you feel you are drinking too much. I'm sure if I drank every night I would notice a change.

Roll on a couple of cans Monday night!

Was everyone that did Dry Jan too pissed to post yest?!...
Managed to do Dry Jan for the first time ever this year. Blasted out minimum of 5k every day, gave up caffeine crisps and chocolate as well. Still going strong, going to try and see if I can get to the weekend before having my first beer. Definitely feel better for it physically, had hoped it would make me feel better mentally but doesn't appear to have done a whole lot to be honest. It's also shown me what a creature of habit humans are. Not having a few beers a couple of nights a week seemed very odd before, now having a beer feels pretty odd. And although I have always been a fairly keen runner, getting a 5km in every day now seems like something I will try and maintain. Not drinking has probably helped with the motivation there too

I completed it too. Apart from a couple of match days and a nice meal it was nt too bad to be honest.
Can nt say I feel any better for it. Done alot more walking as well.
Had a single beer last nite and will be having a couple tonite whilst watching the game.
Overall glad I did it, shows the willpower is still there.

Good for him, how is he feeling?

He was nervous about going in. General anxiety about something new, but from all accounts he’s in a really good place so I’m sure he’ll be fine.

This is all off his own back so it’s something he knows he needs to do. I didn’t have him down as even making it as far as getting in there, but he’s been tested every week and hasn’t had a drop.

I was bought up in pubs and around drink and always enjoyed the social side of life, took my own pub on 16 years ago and revel in the lifestyle, I would have to admit that during that time there haven’t been that many days in the week when I havent taken a drink in some proportion ‘even if just a couple of half’s to be sociable.
But much like last years spells in lockdown I’ve hardly touched a drop, we shut up shop on Christmas Eve and other than the traditional tot of Irish in my Christmas morning coffee I’ve not had a drop since ‘or even remotely felt like one.
So despite all the worry and uncertainty the pandemic has undoubtedly caused me, ( I still honestly have no idea whether we will emerge with our business in tact ) it has probably given my poor old Liver a chance to replenish itself, gather its thoughts and prepare for battle once more...........hopefully in the not to distant futrue.

The hardest times to resist are a glass of red with Sunday lunch and a treat after work on a Friday. Hang in there!

PS I prefer not to go with alcohol-free versions of the usual tipple, as that makes me think that i am not able to kick the habit, which is part of the point for me. If it is just for drying out in your case, then yes things are easier than they used to be (the bottle of 0% Tanqueray gin on my drinks cabinet being a hard one to avoid!).

I try and drink some of the bottle of red that my wife opens so she doesn’t have it all 😮

I went nearly four years 'dry' without really needing to. I just started one of my regular monthly dry spells (about two or three a year, usually) and it spun out to almost four years!
I broke it on Christmas Day (I'd decided to do so some weeks before) with a glass of sherry before lunch, and two glasses of Albarino with the meal. Next drink was a glass of Shiraz to see in the new year (don't like the fizzy shit that everyone else seems to celebrate with).
I'm 'dry' again so far this January, but doubt I'll go four years this time... 😉☺️
I still have a cupboard full of various spirits, but just don't fancy it any more. Not much interest in beer either.

Last day of dry January. I have to say normally I don't care much for it, but I've really felt the positive effects of it this year. Maybe I'm just getting a bit older.

Plan to do another month now and get to the end of Feb. Might even push into March depending on what holiday plans come together.

I drank on 1st Jan but haven't had a drink since then and I will also be doing it up until 1st March. Got to say, I do feel better for it both mentally and physically.

I’ve had a plan all along to go through the first 10 weeks alcohol free, which takes me pretty much to my birthday. Weigh-in last Monday was 11lb down on the start of January. Some of the alcohol free options are really good.

I think for last 3-4 years I don't end up drinking till around march April time after new year's Eve.

Not doing dry January on purpose but just end up detoxing without planning too

I'll have done 3 years without a beer on the 22nd of February.

Still value the feeling of waking up with a clear head more than the feeling of being drunk.

Not sure I'll ever go back.
That's where I am too.
As I said earlier, I'd gone nearly four years before deciding to have a couple over Christmas/NY, and now have been dry again since then.
I really don't miss feeling shite for two or three days.
I'll drink again, but prob not until the dragon's birthday/our anniversary in early May.
Wish it had the same effect on my weight as it evidently does for some!

Not had a drink since 1st Jan and feel a lot better for it. There have been times that it’s been hard due to general stress and the football but it’s been good to process that stress without alcohol. I will drink again from 1st March but will probably continue taking a couple of months break every now and then.

North Leics…...unfortunately
I’m drinking that Impossibrew beer when I fancy a beer at home. This has really helped me cut down. It gives you a nice buzz pretty much the same as 2 pints but 4 pints the buzz doesn’t increase but you don’t feel a bit rough the next day. I’m drinking alcohol just one night a week now

I also haven’t had a drink since the turn of the year and not really felt the urge to either. Think it’s massively helpful that I’ve seen fairly significant weight loss which will in part be due to the cut back. Always seem to get slimmer at this time of year and then when the beer gardens open I turn into an elephant again!

Edit: I’ve also decided, on the food front, to have one day a month of just eating shit. Haven’t had many snacks aside from grapes for the last 6-7 weeks - my partner bought some Lindt’s for valentines and haven’t even got round to opening them yet.
