No aircraft carrier sails alone, they are accompanied by numerous other vessels as part of a carrier battle fleet.
Laser and drone technology along with many other recent advances mean there is a growing need for smaller, faster, and more agile navy vessels.
The "Trump Class" has been on order for over a decade, its just that Trump has added his own name to the new ships.

It's a cruise missile platform like the Russian Kirov class of missile carrier. No doubt it will carry various unmanned weapons and electronic warfare systems.
Anyone calling this a battleship is trying to make out the idea something nuts that Trump came up with on his own. It looks like the planning has been going on since 2010, so it was initiated in Obama's 1st term.
