Where we differ is in our assessment of his ability. Providing his injury has not effected his form (see Bidders and O'Hare when he first came back), then to my mind he is a quality Championship player with a great pedigree. Really experienced,154 Championship games and has played a lot of minutes for us. He is at that age where players usually get better.
Previous England U17 World Cup winner and when fit, a first choice for Jamaica.
There is a tendency on here to write off players too soon if they are injured. Eccles in particular has suffered from this. JDS was completely written off by some who could not see pure footballing ability.
Obviously, we are not going to agree. Time will tell.
I believe it would be nigh impossible to realise the value of a player who is working his way back to fitness, especially in January. Clubs want a player who can start immediately.

Im not complaining. I don’t want to move him on, just think character-wise he won’t be happy with essentially zero game time. He is currently back-up to a back-up!
The only position he has looked capable in for us is centre back, and Woolfenden will certainly be getting in ahead of him.
His pace is his limitation but he is a solid, aggressive defender who reads the game well. I mentioned on another thread, I don't believe Keiffer Moore would have bullied him as he did Woolfie, despite Lati being a lot shorter.
I remember Preston away last season where he was brilliant and one diving header from our 6 yard box to stop a certain goal, at risk of being clattered.

This is the problem with him really. In terms of ability he's perfectly capable at this level and his height isn't that much of a limitation as he's got a great leap on him.
He's just painfully slow so is vulnerable to losing is marker or being caught in behind.

Why would he watch his career stagnate, while knowing hes not getting in the team?
Why the fuck would we pay him and lose a squad place, knowing he ain't getting in the team?
He needs to move on to a team that needs him and would play him, teams like Norwich or Sheffield Utd (just for eg) where he would be a success, and probably a fans favourite.
That would free up a squad place here, for Frank to bring his own kind of player in, hopefully one that could develop into a PL player next season.

Lati wants to play, he’s not going to get a game here unless he have at least 2 injuries/suspensions, it’s a simple as that.

Think I remember reading in one of the daily mail pieces how the professionalism of Lati, Bidwell and Allen maintain the high standards in training.
Generally get why he’d want to go, but there’s no need now. We’ve got positions without back ups to fill before we look to upgrade players, not to mention the potential that anyone we bring in for Jan could be surplus to requirements next season

Lats isnt getting a game, he isnt going to get a game unless we lose 2 of the 3 players ahead of him, and even then there's no guarantee that Bidwell may be asked to cover instead of lats. So he ain't getting a game!!!!

Now if we accept that he ain't getting a game, we would be better off selling him or loaning him, or even (as a last resort) paying up his contract so he can move on.
That would then allow us to bring in another CH to add to the squad to add depth and the much needed competition for places that Lats has failed to offer.
Do you understand now???? If not go and show this post to a grown up and ask them to explain it to you.

Doesn't really make sense to do that after spending a decent chunk on Woolf in the summer.
Also there's no way Bidwell plays at CB if they're both fully fit. Lati is considerably better than him there.

Your 4th choice CB generally isn't going to be "competing" anyway? They're mainly there in case of multiple injuries/suspensions.Ffs

I'm pretty sure Lati doesn't see himself as 4th choice. He is coming back from injury, so no he is not currently competing for a place. His previously guaranteed place with Jamaica is not available now, because he is not up to speed after his injury.
The purpose of a squad is to put pressure on the incumbent in the team. Prove you are better than them, or ensure they perform well enough to keep their place. If they get injured or suspended, step up and try to keep your place. Duh, football 101.
Some on here contend he is not good enough. Lati gets his fitness back, lets see where we go from there on in.

Why would we go to all that trouble (and potential expense if you want to pay up his contract) to bring in another CH? At that point does Woolfenden become our fourth choice CB and not getting a game, so we should go through the same procedure with him at that point?
A fourth choice CB isn't likely to play and to have someone with Lati's experience and ability in that role is useful. To find an equivalent to take that squad role would be pretty much impossible.
Now if we identify a potential attainable target that would be a first team player right now and potentially good enough to cope with PL football should we get promoted, and Lati would like to leave to get more minutes, then we should do what we can to entertain that request by trying to enable a transfer for him (paying up his contract is ludicrous).
But if we don't get that player then there's no point messing around with the CB's we currently have in the squad.

I will point out that although we will have priority positions and we all agree those are further forward, if targets become available at the right time they will move for them whether we think its a priority or not. The club didn't bid for Neilsen because they wanted a 4th choice centre back, they bid because they think he's a good talent. If the deal is there in Jan, we could well return to that.

Why would Woolfenden be any less happy than Lati? Okay if Lati goes what level of player are you bringing in? Let’s say Thomas gets injured, Woolfenden goes in the team what is your bench looking like. Especially as Kitching is vulnerable to yellows and suspension. The landscape can change quickly.
Not as stupid as you saying paying up his contract is a sensible option

Don’t get why so many people rate him. He's not “serviceable” or “decent”, every time he plays we leak goals.
Some of you lot would have persevered with Lati and Binks and we’d be nowhere near top.

In reply to JDS , he was initially a liability with balls over the top. He was making mistakes and costing us goals but he has settled down into a decent player earning call ups for international duty so yes a lot of us, myself included, could see the now and I think he has surprised many a person how he has turned out!
