£7.5m invested in a RB and CB as cover and seemingly not good enough. Match fitness or just not up to it? Which is it? One was Preston player of the year and the other has Premiership experience. Go figure
No continuity playing bit parts tends not to give the players confidence

Easy to figure (and not aimed at you)... They haven't played regularly and are then thrown in together along with another member who does not play, and may well be on the, very quick, slide, into the back four.

Allen was one of our better players last night along with Sakamoto, the main issue was Bidwell and wolf and that’s difficult to say because Bidwell has been a great servant for us
He worked hard and put in a few decent tackles but u watch the game again , he gave the ball away on many occasions or played passes into players that meant they were dispossessed. I've said it for 2 seasons now, if we want to get promoted Allen cannot be starting on a regular basis as he hasn't got the quality. Always gives his all so dont mind him on the bench as hes a decent pro.

Our bench was not strong. Torp was the only real first team player on there. Simms maybe. Two were kids, one was Brau who is seemingly way off the level, one was Eccles who is lovely but unlikely to impact a game. Lats was just back from injury and unlikely to do better against Moore.

Those one the pitch in Bidwell KKH and Allen weren’t up to scratch and we were playing two in midfield because we didn’t have any AMs.

We’re 13 games in and the squad is creaking. We absolutely need reinforcements in Jan. we play a high intensity game. It’s only getting tougher from here.
Agree with the bench. Would be fine if they were all fit. Torp and Eccles are not back from injuries yet. Lati is miles off. Brau and the kids not trusted yet. Simms does a good job when he comes on but lacks minutes.

His pre match press conference interviews are poor too. Frank has run out of answers whe he keeps askibg him about the fans.
When SKY did the press conference last week they were 100% better than the amateurs we have on CWR.
Can we get that fella who did the pre season and fills in occasionally, he’s miles better than Gurney and Bailey…..And I don’t mean Dave Bennett 😄
The beggy questions about the support make me cringe, just a waste of time

It’s such a “I know fuck all about football” question. The sort you’d expect from Lorna whatsit

Carson Wishart. Came across as a decent journalist/presenter. Please get Gurney gone, he's meant to be a serious BBC presenter. This was him yesterday

Come again now?

The quote was it was easy for the original poster to say, not literally but a common idiom is “it’s easy for you to say” meaning that the speaker hasn’t given full thought to the constraints on someone undertaking their advice.

In this instance this was supported by pointing out that whoever did would be dropping at the time the leagues top goal scorer. In football scoring goals is generally considered an important part of the game and strikers who score more than the average amount are highly sought after. The suggestion then was that it would be hard to follow the advice given when you would also have to explain dropping the leagues top scorer. To cover all bases it was also pointed out that even if you didn’t drop him but instead moved him to the left forward position that his might be suboptimal because the striker in question was rumoured to be very unhappy when not playing his favoured central striker position.

Overall the sentence that’s confused you can be read as a lighthearted phrase in common vernacular designed to suggest some reasons why the manager might not be quick to drop Or move Haji Wright to accommodate another player.

The obvious gap is the lack of wingers and AMs. Unfortunately, these are the players you tend to sub off the most and in an ideal world, you need to be able to change your wingers, a striker and an AM/second striker.

That’s 4 subs with another to cover a defence and midfield. This is why I was banging on about it in preseason and it’s also why we’ve struggled to change momentum in games where things haven’t gone our way.

Thankfully, we’re usually in commanding winning positions for this to be a real problem but the warning signs are there.

Just got to make it through two months now and from the sounds of it at least one forward is in the bag and I’m sure we’ll have other targets. Two tough months though.

You mentioned in another post that you don't think the squad is that thin, which i somewhat agree with, but this is where we are very much lacking.

We don't really have players to come off the bench to impact a game to the point where the pendulum can swing to our favour.

Most of the subs we've made so far this season that have made an impact have done because we've largely been very much on top. If we're up against it we need players which are capable of shifting the run of play.

In January we really need either two wingers, or one winger and a CAM/winger hybrid to give us interchangeable options to achieve that.

I’m confident. If we’re top by Jan, there surely isn’t any major roadblocks. We’ve got Ipswich x2, PNE and Southampton (A), Swansea and Bristol at home. It’s a bit of gauntlet, particularly when considering that we play Stoke and Boro away before then.

After Jan 5th, the only Top 6 team we’ll have to play away is Bristol City, no parachute teams away either. Only 3 top half away days at Hull, WBA and Watford.

My expectation is that we’ll probably drop-off in December but we’ve then got past a lot of tough games.

You’re exactly right. Our squad is strong with lots of good options all over the pitch. However, how often would subbing on a fullback, centre back or CM actually win you game?

For example, bringing KKH and/or Brau at RW/LWs may work when you’re winning 1 or 2-0 (it has v Millwall and Wednesday) but you’re not backing either player to get an important goal if we’re drawing or losing a game. Particularly if it’s against a low block and team we can’t just hit on the counter.

We’ve got Simms on the bench, who has scored goals to his credit. Most team will at least sub one winger off without fail and probably an AM too.

One ‘out and out’ winger and hybrid winger/AM is on my January wish list. That gives us a bit more dynamism from the bench.

Another in central midfield I dare say, but less of a priority than those positions you describe.

Agree on that, but only if we're confident they can make the step up to the Prem. Overall, there won't be many CMs better than Eccles as a 3rd choice and once he gets fit and contributing, anxieties over CMs will ease imo. It feels like we've only got Allen-Torp-Grimes atm since Eccles has only played a handful of minutes.

I like Allen, v capable 4th choice option but if we're in a position where he needs to play 10+ games as a starter, the lack of quality will start to show. He seems happy in that role and that is gold dust because too many players competing is just as bad as having no competition.

I agree on Allen, good character to have around for those reasons and doesn’t complain.

It’s Torps fitness record that worries me about not having another CM. But equally if Eccles can’t fill in there what’s the point of him?
I'm less bothered about Eccles filling in than Allen. Although Eccles seems to be breaking down a bit recently, like a Sheaf regen.
