So how much rent do we presently pay and how much is Ashley wanting to put it up to?
No idea how much he wants to put it up to if he does at all. Currently we pay around £1.5m which is not a lot. My point is even if he puts it up to £2m that’s the deal we should be pursuing rather than ownership.

And a long term deal. Rock solid so he doesn’t screw the fans over by charging silly money.

Without knowing what Ashley is after we can only guess. His starting point could be a piss take thinking we're under pressure by the FL into having to agree with his terms.

Of course we would be better off at the CBS. King stated exactly the same just in April. It must make you wonder why he would change his mind so quickly.

He’s not changed his mind. He’s just floated this stadium nonsense as it’s the only sliver of a bargaining chip he has. We’ve just got to hope Frasers offer something reasonable.

He hasn’t changed his mind

If he hasn't changed his mind where is all this coming from if Ashley isn't asking for too much? How can he be happy in April but looking for another angle in June?

We aren’t building a stadium in two years are we

The fact is we can’t be beholden to the whims of a company whose sole purpose is to extract as much money from the football club as possible.

it amazes me that half our fanbase doesn’t get this and won’t entertain any notion of us moving to a situation where we control our own stadium.

Long term we either need to move to a new ground or buy the one we’re in

He should have bought it when he had a chance probably cheaper then than it is now.

But the fact is we are. And will continue to be. A new stadium is 100% not happening.

Quite funny how it now seems to have become a thing that if we manage to get promoted we'll immediately be looking to add another tier on the CBS or move to a bigger ground.

More realistically you'd be looking at several years of every game being sold out before that's even a thought.

It's mad how people can't seem to grasp this.
And given we don't own it it adds a whole other level of complexity to how it would actually work.

Then add to this if/when we get to the Prem the income from tickets becomes a smaller fraction of your income.

Yeah, there are so many factors.
As CD said, it's not even going to be thought about until we have a prolonged period of selling out.

No we're not but you haven't answered my question as usual.

I have. He has to sign another licence so clearly will do something to show he will look at alternatives if he has to

Still slightly baffled by where this story goes next. Presumably we have had to pay the 10,000 pound fine. I imagine in many ways this will be at the forefront of King’s mind rather then any transfer news. I wonder what conversations have been had, if any, of us buying the stadium back this season.

surely the plan has to be buying the stadium back at some point, i've never understood why frasers wanted to buy it (obv knowing we are the only tennant) theres only so much profit they can be making each month from it? (unless ive missed something??)

I dont know why anyone ever wants to own it tbh

It's been there 20 years and not once made any profit

maybe you're right, i always feel uneasy with renting the stadium, they could bump up prices and we're done for again.
surely less fingers in the pie the better?
There’s always a lot of talk that we have no option, but to rent the stadium out, but have always thoughts from Fraser’s POV, they would get no revenue if we left the city again.

didnt King say he offered the money, but he couldnt "show" the money in time or something?

I know nothing about the detail, but I assume somewhere in the mix the landlord (Ashley) has assessed the ability of his anchor tenant (City) to pay, bearing in mind City are guaranteed income - whereas most other events at the stadium are one-offs. Ashley's assessment was probably on the basis of crowds of 18-24k. Now he sees a stadium bursting to the rafters for Hull and QPR for heavens sake and does the maths.

Also the hints being dropped to visitors about how little Frasers make can be motivated by factors other than being a softening up process for further rent rises. After all visitors have no say in the negotiations, it's Ashley v King

I get what you mean but how many clubs have statiums that make them a profit? A place to play is a cost.

Owning it removes any uncertainty about it being sold from under you. No matter how well you get on with the current owners ultimately you don't own it and there's always a possibility of that being a problem at some point in the future.
