Still boils my piss people were clambering for him to go just 3 months ago
worst part of all that was in pretty much every interview from the summer onwards Robins was practically pleading with supporters to allow time to get the new signings in and playing how he wanted but people wouldn't listen to him.

Every thread on here would have sarcastic comments about 'time to gel' and people saying we were going to be relegated.

Listened to it brilliant, he knew Gus and vik were leaving on the coach back after the play off final, that puts all the bullshit to bed then, loves it here, plenty more to do, makes you realize how daft the fans are who wanted him gone after our poor start, knows exactly what he’s doing, we’re in good hands
Just like he knows Ohare will be gone unless we go up.

Really enjoyed that. He’s a voice of reassurance and comfort. Couldn’t imagine listening to anyone else talking about the club at this point.

We’re incredibly lucky to have him. The MR out narrative is cyclical and it’ll be back again next year. Disappointing aspect this time around was that a lot of decent posters bought into it.

Side note - not sure if it’s just me and/or the platform I used to listen, but how bloody hard was it to find the start of his interview!
Took some time away from this place earlier in the season. Heard nothing about Robins Out in that time. It’s a few knee-jerkers, 99% of fans wouldn’t have wanted it. Social media just amplifies the minority calls though.

To be fair whilst there was people like myself questioning Robins -nobody (that’s those at the ground, nor the people above - King) showed dissent

The crowds were supportive and didn’t show any dissent.

internet message boards and Twitter aren’t a barometer for owners to sack a manager…. Thankfully

Can only presume the fact he failed when leaving us for a bigger club before us what has put other teams off going for him. Which is nuts really when you look at the merry go round of managers that keep getting jobs.

I'm amazed a lower level PL or upper Championship team (which we are now I guess) has not made a serious effort to appoint him in the last few years.

He's done an absolutely phenomenal job here.

People wanting him sacked at the start of the season are fucking nuts.

Good listen. He was very, very keen to share the praise (which is a good indicator of good leadership). Viveash, Lawrence, Austin and Boddy all mentioned by name.

Clearly an all round mensch but let’s not take every single word as gospel truth…

For instance I don’t remember anyone throwing a pig’s head into the pitch in an anti-SiSU protest. Tennis balls, plastic pigs, some home made banners from bed sheets but no pig’s heads.

I honestly don’t think so. It’ll be like a Dyche or Howe situation at Burnley and Bournemouth respectively. He either takes us as far as he can and he gets sacked after a period of managed decline or he walks because he’s taken us as far as he can.

If he takes us back up to the Prem and keeps us there, he’ll have cemented himself as our best ever manager. Older cohorts of fans may disagree, but there isn’t an argument against it.
Agreed. While Jimmy Hill was brilliant you'd argue that Robin's tenure will have achieved more (Hill left immediately after promotion anyway) especially in the context of the financial imbalance, gone from average gates of less than 10k to 25k. It is phenomenal.

Great interview. Plus the next 10 mins with Maidstone United owner. From 1:28:00 to about 1:58:00

And then, just before the news, they said that they were going to debate about reducing the premier league to 18! But the Robins and Maidstone interviews were longer than expected.

I don’t know if anyone carried on listening after MR left but they were saying in the studio that it’s a mystery between football people why he hasn’t been given a shot at the prem.
I think he pretty much answered the question, he genuinely didn't seem interested in other jobs. I imagine any approach would involve sounding him out first and from his answer he'd shoot them down pretty quick.

Premier league management is often a poisoned chalice anyway - even if he was willing he'd likely be joining a club in significant danger of relegation, where the sack is only 3-6 months away and suddenly he's unemployed with a 0-1 record in the prem, and little success outside of one club.

He sounded like he genuinely enjoyed the more long term aspects of management - working to improve facilities, staffing departments and generally building the club up brick by brick. That's not really an opportunity you get walking in to a new job, it's something you can only work on when you have some stability and assurances in your own long term future.

Pigs head. It was the incumbent chairman?

Thing I find strange is that Hamer telling him he wanted to leave straight away, how come we didn't have the irons in the fire for his replacement as we must have known it was coming?

I know deals can end up not going through for a variety of reasons, but to end up taking a punt on a loan of Ayari as a replacement seems pretty poor if we knew he was going all along.

Way I heard it and from what I remember about the summer, it sounds like Hamer wanted away but we had to wait for suitable offers to come in. If Sheff Utd hadn't made a last minute offer, he would still be here. No need for a replacement in that situation. And when he did go, we probably didn't have time to sort a replacement. We've had 6 months since and got a CM in during the second week of the window.

And that's why I think the club were very careful about what they said publicly. I remember Robins saying and getting frustrated that a contract had been offered but not signed. And Hamer at one of the pre-season games being elusive with fans asking if he was signing. Didn't want to commit if he could get away within that transfer window.

Club could also have had instructions from above eg. "Don't say Hamer and Vik are going otherwise season ticket sales will fall away."

Shows how much the clingers on know, if Gus wanted to go after Wembley.

All the stories about wages etc, just people who have had their noses put out of joint by a new owner clamping down on leaks and special treatment.

It was quite obvious that Gyokeres and Hamer wanted to play at a higher level than the championship. A football players career is short. I said at the time if we went up Hamer would most probably stay. Didn't expect him to have said about leaving on the way home from the game though. But those who shout the loudest always know better. Then they blend into the background when shown to be wrong.

The same is happening now with O'Hare. It's quite obvious he is ambitious. But to some It's all about the money. My guess has been the same as with Hamer. We go up he probably stays. We don't go up he leaves. If he took another contract with us it would take him towards the end of his career.

I get all of that ‘short career’ and ‘play at a higher’ level stuff but fuckme.. there’s also a place for decorum. I mean, they were on the fucking bus after just losing the playoff final on penalties talking about fuckingoff

I don’t expect loyalty but a bit of respect would be nice.

We don't need to get to the Prem and then stay there to see Robins as our best manager. I can't see what the debates are about because no manager in my lifetime has taken over our club in such a bad state. Everything he has had thrown at him has just made him more determined.

Played home games away from Coventry? Done it twice.

Squad he took over was average League 2 at best. But he ended up getting them together and giving us our highest league table finish in nearly 50 years and getting us promoted.

Just a couple of seasons later League 1 champions although Covid made it an anticlimax.

Kept improving us every season culminating in losing on penalties in the playoff final when many spent much of the season expecting a relegation battle.

Losing two special players but putting an excellent side together for this season the first time he had money to spend. The money raised by selling his signings. Yet again called clueless and wasted 20m. But here we are with an excellent chance of making the FA Cup quater final and starting to make a gap between us and 7th and below. Another season we were supposed to be in a relegation battle.

My question is always the same to those who have wanted rid of him. Who could we get that would be better. Never had a single sensible reply.

I'm in my mid 50's. Can anyone suggest another manager who has had such an impact in my days? Has any manager improved us constantly or even more than just for a couple of seasons? And our journey together isn't over yet.

The difference being that Gyo will have made it clear for most of the season that unless promoted he was off and had plenty of options. Hamer had nobody interested until Sander Berge left Sheff Utd in mid August and they had to sign a replacement quick.

What I don’t think has been asked and what would be interesting to hear is what was said to/with Dabo afterwards.

And here's the problem.

Lost all respect for Hamer because he kept us thinking he was going to stay and leaves us just before the season starts. He should have let us know as soon as he could.

Fast forward about 6 months.

Lost all respect for Hamer because he told us he wanted to leave as soon as he possibly could.

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't. Typical of a lot of our fan base.

100% spot on.

It seems like ages ago now that myself and just a few others kept saying give time. I kept saying 10 to 12 games to get them up to speed. But all tou got back was he had wasted 20m on shite players and need to go. He had supposedly taken us as far as he could.

Those same people still make out they doubt we will make the playoffs even though we're building a gap between us and those 7th and below. They try to big up the clubs below us as their reason why. Clubs that are on a bad run.

Enjoy the good times with Robins. Because when he finally does leave us it will leave us with a gap that will be very difficult to fill.
