Who's responsible? (1 Viewer)

Despite the shower that is our performance on the pitch, I was wondering last night - who is actually responsible for the stewards etc at the games? Who gives them their orders? Its bad enough that we have to deal with everything else wrong with the club, to then be subjected to all their nonsense! By nonsense I mean that last night:
1) i wasn't allowed to enter through one of the other turnstiles as it wasn't my designated turnstile
2) at said turnstile i was subjected to a pat down, yet they still missed the bottle of water i had in my coat pocket
3) i looked on in disbelief as a fresh out of his mum steward made an elderly gentleman take of his flat-cap to check under it.... A FLAT CAP!!! THE CLUES IN THE NAME!
4) During the game - the stewards seemed hell bent on running up and down the steps in the naughty corner seemingly trying to suppress the ounce of atmosphere the lads were trying to drum up!

Its a joke. Bad enough that i still drag my ass up there every week, but to then be put through this circus is beyond me!

Checked my ticket approaching turnstiles, checked it as I scanned it, then checked again on steps into ground from the concourse???? the stadium is empty does it matter where I sit??? should be grateful anyone pays let alone treat them like they do.

I got searched, then the bloke in front was pissing about with his ticket so I went to go in the next one and the same steward tried to search me again.

Must have been on the same chemicals the players were.

Couple of weeks back my Father-in-laws' sister who has a season ticket and comes with us wasn't well and couldn't come! Rather than waste her ticket my mate came up with us!
The steward on the gate was adamant he wasn't coming in and even tried to confiscate the ticket as he clearly wasn't the female owner of the ticket. When we explained it's a fully paid adult ticket, with an adult trying to enter on it he didn't want to know! Would give us our ticket back and wouldn't let him in. Finally somebody saw sense and we got in but what a farce it was!
Contacted the club about it and they done sweet fa about it!

Was there a bulge in his flat cap?

Completely agree with what everyone has said, had my season ticket checked then checked again as I went into the turnstile, was searched, then asked to be searched again, until I said that he has already felt me up by his mate. no idea if its the club asking for the over the top checks or they work for the stadium. I don't think I get searched that much to get on a plane, then inside the stadium there seems to be loads of security and stewards and the stadium is empty....

To be honest it's this kind of crap that puts me off more than the football. The endless pettiness of the stewards really grates on me - when you've got 7,600 going who really cares where you sit or what turnstile you enter through.

I don't know if the stewards are being told to enforce all of this rubbish, but if they are they need to feed back to their managers that it's costing them customers and a massive amount of good will. Good will matters because if the stewards get on the wrong side of the fans and trust is lost, then policing the stadium gets much, much harder and that's to no one's benefit.

I have heard this from a few sources now but apparently this is mainly down to Wasps.

Wasps basically want to run all stewarding at the Ricoh (a nice little earner as they can stick management charges on top), and tried to force the club to accept this in the summer. The club refused as its not part of the current rental agreement.

They have made the stewards life quite difficult, they are scrutinising everything they do, and are on their backs if they aren't following correct procedures and are collecting evidence to try and force the club into accepting the new arrangements.

This is the reason the stewards are being particularly pedantic.

Must say, it pisses me off getting padded down when I'm going to a game with my 6 year old and 84 year old grandad. And checking my ticket going into the block seat I've sat in since we've been at the Ricoh!!

I asked a steward on the turnstile what was the reason for the frisking. He told me for anything I was likely to throw onto pitch. The toxic state of this club, now the fans are expected to riot over the next few games. The last game of this dreadful season should be interesting. I recommend everyone staying away. Empty stadium.

Our club has to be able to show that they are doing what they can to the FL to stop demonstrations that interfere with play. The problem with SISU is that they are either too much or nothing at all in what they do.

I think this is a reflection of how the operational relationship is breaking down.

The main body of stewards are employed by CCFC (it is detailed in the accounts). Immediate responsibility is with CCFC therefore. However CCFC have to comply with the Safety committee standards. The safety committee will have input from CCFC, Wasps, ACL, Police, Fire Service, EFL etc

I would think that following the disorder at matches the Safety Committee and the EFL have insisted on stricter standards or keeping to standards. Neither the safety committee nor the EFL can be seen to go lightly on the breaches of rules, regulation or law that occurred however good natured. If it is not done to standard then the stadium operation licence to stage events could be at risk and Wasps can not let that happen

If CCFC are contracted to provide their own stewards then there is not a lot that Wasps/ACL can do about that so long as the stewards comply with stadium rules and regulations. Which of course is the weak point is it done properly. Wasps are entitled to expect the stadium to be run properly and to standard whether we like that or not. I suspect that in all matters between Wasps & CCFC it is about working rigidly to contract on both sides

Yes it is more pressure on CCFC. However it seems to be more designed to make CCFC move away than stay in which case it indicates how unimportant CCFC has become to the stadium. Which should be a worry given we have no alternative.

They checked my season ticket.
I'm nearly 74 with grey hair. It's obvious I'm not a 25 year old trying to get in on a kid's ticket.

My friend's 9 yo grandson was frisked a couple of games back.
He queried this with the club. An official (I won't give any more detail) was due to meet him but it didn't happen
My friend was subsequently told it was now Wasps who were responsible

Stewards are rarely paying attention. I'm diabetic so always took cans of coke with me, start of last season I was told no cans allowed and they took them all off me. Every week since, I've taken cartons of juice with a can of coke in my bag. They ask me to open my bag they have a look inside, clearly pay no attention and just let me in. If you wanted to, you could take anything in the ground with you i'm pretty sure all of the checks are for show.

I enter at T23 but the last couple of weeks there has been someone stood in front of T22 not letting people in and then randomly decides to ask people to go in T22 instead of the others, what's that all about?

The searching isn't even consistent though.

For example bags, if we take a bag with food in they just ask you to open it and don't really look in. Under the crisps there could be 10 smoke bombs.

You can't buy a bottle of water for a child with a lid, but you can take a glass bottle in with a lid in a bag if you wanted to quite easily.

Just typed that as I did about the bags.

It renders the whole pat down useless, as you just put stuff in your bag.

completely agree, like i said at the top, i got searched and they didn't even pay attention to the bottle of water i had. I made zero attempt to hide it - and nothing was said. Pointless, and just adds to the fans frustration.

Had a long discussion with a 'senior' steward outside the ground Saturday as I refused to be searched, as when I asked the steward who wanted to search me what he was looking for he replied "dunno" I said "in that case I object" tried to get in was blocked another club steward came over said she'd get the senior steward, from our 5 minute convo the general gist of the conversation was that orange jacket stewards are agency on a match by match basis, the increased searches he apologised for, he didn't specify but insinuated either the club/club security or both were that embarrassed by the Sheffield United game, that they've upped the searches for tennis balls, whistles and flares (thought it was smoke bombs). I made the point the only smoke bomb at the Swindon game was in their end.

He kept apologising saying it's not his decision saying 'them over there' (pointing in the direction of the main stand).

In the end I was let in without a search.

Last night just let the guy search me he gave me quite a going over but never got his phone number the tease : (

One of the main reasons I won't be renewing next season is the way I am treated trying to support my football team in a quarter full stadium.

Don't know who's in charge these days, but when I was a steward back in the HR days, it was a bloke named Bob Rankin. He used to be the Chief Superintendent of Coventry Police before that. He was really strict with the stewards as well. I had one of my daughter's weddings to attend one Saturday and phoned to say I couldn't make it. He told me not to bother coming back! After doing the job for 4 thankless years as well! Twat!

Was told last night when questioning why the increased searches that they've got a new Head Of Security. Not surprised after the Sheff Utd debacle that the last one was ousted.

A quick grope and I was in though. Lost my shit at the lass asking to see my ticket on the steps in the stadium though a few weeks ago. That shit is beyond a joke, just let me sit down and enjoy the misery about to unfold love...

You see I can see the news in the article to and including quoting Stupot .................... but the point of the stuff beneath it for umpteenth time is?

So basically its all about change and the stewards, like most people, do not like change. The safety committee have insisted on improved standards following the CCFC protest disruption and if that improvement doesn't happen the stadium licence is at risk so unsurprisingly the stadium owners have taken control to remove that risk

I cant help thinking after such articles that things are being positioned so that it is easier for CCFC to leave, and that suits more than one side of this saga

I understand but the way it's done lacks common sense & general manners for starters.

So why at the rugby do we not get searched or tickets checked ?
It's CCFC influenced due to recent events I suggest.
Also as a Block 20 season ticket holder I pay more for my ticket so I assume that's the other checks I've had inside.
Again it never happens at Wasps games although the price differential is substantial.
Hopefully all blocks will be the same price in L2.

breakdown in communication and training from what I can see. There are changes, the stewards need to buy in to that, the operation and interaction with the customers needs to be improved. No reason why it cant be done in a positive friendly well mannered way

But I would bet part of this is about rejection of change

I doubt the control room is telling stewards to be rude and unfriendly, but it is no longer a CCFC control room.

Why do they even ask to see the ticket at the top of the steps, how the fuck do they think we got through a turnstile with stewards right next to them?

Oh no, someone has pointed a finger at wasps.....and right on cue he's fighter fighter Italia..

Yes, the recent searches has been influenced by recent events, they have however checked tickets all season. Wasps probably don't bother as a) they haven't had protests and b) they aren't being scrutinised by another body (like wasps are of ccfc stewards)

Heard this a number of times, told Last about it in a pm back in September. Heard it again this week and from a very reliable source someone from inside the ccfc stewards camp.

If you don't believe it, fair enough, I'm only passing on info I've been told.

And what are they expected to do then? Do they not realise if I wanted to get to a different block I'd just walk across the seats?
