Is the Premier League Out of reach (3 Viewers)

There was a report last night on news night which gave a stark message to clubs outside the premier league.

Effectively it was saying the championship is now effectively ran by clubs in the same way the premiere league was when we were in it.

When we were there the premier league was full of clubs, like us, overspending and borrowing huge sums of money to remain there. Now the league is a harem of profit for foreign investors. All but one club made a profit last year and the average profit was £30 million.

The most incredible stat was that wages were 58% of turnover.

By contrast the desperation to join this party is having a catastrophic effect in the championship. Average losses are at £10 million a club and average wages to turnover is 105%.

We know that when we were last in the championship we were in the top 10 crowds but due to our "unique" arrangement were in the bottom 6 for revenue.

I can see no real hope with these arrangements how the club can return - even with promotion and gates of 15-20,000 we'd have one of the lowest turnovers and no real capacity to move forward.

It could be we will never return.

We will never return under the current regime full stop .
Clubs don't make it big these days by "living within their means " or "breaking even"

I think it is possible for a club like us to return one day. We have a bigger potential fan base than a number of Premier League clubs.

Well these figures prove him right and prove we need our own stadium or we are without hope of ever attracting new owners.

I'll be in the minority but I have no desire to return to the Premier League in its current guise.

Me too, I would just love a bit of excitement. A promotion, cup run, or a trip to Wembley would be fine. The Premier League in it's current state is somewhere I don't want to be. £40 for an away ticket twice a month? Not for me.

Maintained it at the ultimate cost of losing a home of 99 years and now renting a stadium from a London Rugby Club. Never again.

Sorry? We were £60 million in debt when relegated.

Yes .. is that because of the premier league or bad management , fiddles etc ?

Im sorry but their have been many clubs in the premier league that never got into the mess we did .
By blaming the premier league you are effectively passing the book from richardson and co

It's because as every club were doing we were spending more on wages than receiving in revenue. We were spending fortunes on wages that far exceeded our earnings.

Strange that, take you've got hundreds of millions to lose?

Perhaps they can make more by farming it out, without all the extra costs?

So why ask this question then , when under the current regime we wont pay those wages ever so it's not something we should concern ourselves with ..as we are just getting by right now .

I'm surprised so many are making profits, on the basis we could do to I'm all for someone risking their money to get us there and then take the profit. At the ticket prices clubs charge in the league I probably wouldn't go to as many games, but I'd enjoy the success we'd have along the way.

The Championship appears to be a multi-millionaire's Casino. On that basis, with our current ownership the Premier League is out of reach baring a rich vein of talent from the academy and not selling them...

Here in the third division, you can probably get an away ticket to any game you fancy. In the Premiership, they would be much harder to come by, even at £40 a pop.

I would be happy to stay in the Championship, with a good few Midlands derby games, but as the OP suggested, we would probably go broke.

Got to admit it is so strange to be looking at the other end of a table, be it division 3.

I'd take it but if we came straight back down I wouldn't be that bothered. Assuming that we haven't gambled everything to get there and need at least X amount of seasons in it to avoid going tits up, again.

I thought delivering a new stadium was his only job. if he isnt up to it why is he still hanging around and being paid?

That we need to do so is beyond doubt but there is no hope of it happening in any meaningful timeframe.

I don't think Bournemouth had "hundreds of millions to lose" either.

They had enough to lose £40m+ in 3 years.

They lost £15m just getting out of league one.

We probably wouldn't. Both rent and wages are now under control unlike previously.
