Neil MacFarlane also remains in his role as Venus and Clapham join Tony Mowbray's backroom staff...
Coventry City have appointed Mark Venus as technical director and Jamie Clapham as a coach.


Following the appointment of Tony Mowbray on a two-year deal, the club have moved quickly to supply the City boss with the infrastructure required to achieve his aims and ambitions with the Sky Blues.


Former Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Venus will be tasked with overseeing the recruitment and the footballing structure at the club having worked with Mowbray at West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough.


Former Tottenham Hotspur, Ipswich Town and Birmingham City full-back Clapham was part of Mowbray's staff at Middlesbrough and he joins the Sky Blues as a coach to assist with the first-team and under-21s squad.


Neil MacFarlane will also remain in his current role at the club and Mowbray hopes the introduction of Venus and Clapham will help breed success at Coventry City.


Mowbray said: "Throughout my discussions with the club's owners and the board, the main areas I highlighted were the structure and the recruitment at the club.


"If we're going to achieve our aims and ambitions, it is important not to just focus on the pitch but also the work we do off it.


"If you look at the work I did at Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion, there is now a successful structure in place at those clubs and this is what I want to replicate here.


"Mark is someone I've worked with for many years and have enjoyed a lot of success with, and Jamie has impressed me with his coaching skills and development during my time at Middlesbrough.


"These appointments are hopefully the first of many steps to bringing this club forward and pushing for a successful 2015/16 campaign and beyond."

Very good news. Mowbray has brought his own staff in which obviously was a must.

Good news and sisu have held their promise so far with TM.

They are both defenders. I hope they can both still play with the amount of players we have not brought in so far.

I'm curious as to what Venus is going to do say 6 months down the line when the scouting system is all set up, is he going to move to coaching to replace Mcfarlane?

Even if Venus is doing a great job, there shouldn't really ever be a point where he can say it's finished.

That is not curious, that is gossip. There is a difference. Why do people 'read between the lines' and then make up there own story?

he is in charge of scouting, recruitment, and development of the coaching side. He is the figures man and will be looking after the budget and advising TM....hardly a six month post.

the bigger question is what will Wanggott be doing?

Head from a few credible sources that Neil McFarlane is an excellent coach. We have a very good management team, we play in a very good stadium and we are a big club for this division. We really need to start stamping our authority on League 1 now and start to make a proper charge into the Championship.

No but surely there comes a point after all the initial hard work is done where you say a man of his coaching credentials and experience will be better utilised out on the training pitch and in the dugout.

Looking bright... mowbrays first day back today from his holiday aswell!!

Hopefully a few signings this weeks and news on players offered new deals!
looking forward to this season first time for a while!!

TM says he is his figures man, so he will be more on the organisational side allowing TM more hands on with the squad.

That is probably what the club are hoping so they don't have to pay him off as well. In the short term probably cheaper to keep him than sack him and replace him.

Ever considered he might be rated as a good coach or is it a case of you can't see past the Pressley connection? I mean people on here were desperate for TM to bring Clapham in? Or were they just talking Venus and Proctor?

To be honest very few of us have any idea about the attributes of coaching staff because we never see them at work. Yes some build reputations but it doesn't happen overnight. For instance Houchens FA Cup final header was the culmination of hours and hours of coaching....but people don't keep banging on about how great the coach was...it is just a great cup final goal.

As for Clapham, TM said he was pleased with his development as a coach at Middlesborough, and that is good enough for me.

No idea on him as a coach but I will find out for you from an ex player at the club, as a fan looking at him he looks a bit shouty and waves his arms a lot.

i think Clapham and Venus are good moves and the removal of the pointless Hockaday.

There will also be a lot of unseen people like the new scouts brought in which can only help
