I think we've got the nucleus of a very good team (1 Viewer)

Sorry to swear, but have we fuck.

the team is full of loans, yes we have a few decent youngsters but that is all they are at the moment, decent, and we have two goalies who couldnt catch a cold.

of course William Wallace would say that, and anyway he hasn't played any part in bringing these youngsters on at all, they were here before him ,and no doubt once the sideways, back sideways, ball forward two yards, ball back ten yards, back sideways, no attacking threat whatsoever,no shooting, type of footballing DNA is drilled into them their careers will be all but over.

i have stopped listening to his crap, he's getting more embarrassing every time he opens that Scottish gob of his.

hes been found out and the things he has come out with are desperate in the extreme

I've got to agree we have some great young talent coming through and in 2 seasons time when they have been brought through to the first team properly they will be so much better with the experience..

Unfortunatly we will probably sell them all next season and be back to square one.

And there's the problem, it's great having all these players come through but we appear to make little effort to keep hold of them and build a team. I appreciate we're in L1 and limited in what we can offer them but how hard are we trying to persuade players to stay and mount a serious promotion push?

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has confirmed him and his staff are already preparing for movement in the January transfer window.
The Sky Blues face a trip to Ashton Gate tomorrow for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern Section Area Semi-Final against League One leaders Bristol City.
Despite the current focus being on the pitch, Pressley admitted a lot of work has already gone in off-the-pitch ahead of January.
The City boss said: "In terms of recruitment, my mind-set is on the January transfer window. We've got to ensure that our recruitment in January is properly prepared.
"We're working extremely hard towards doing that. It has been a big effort from everybody with a lot of miles covered over the last few weeks.
"We need to be careful. In the recent transfer window, I stopped a loan deal going out as I was concerned that we wouldn't get what we needed in.
"We've got to get the right players in before we look at getting some of the players already in the building, out."
The Sky Blues have only conceded one goal in the last four games and Pressley believes City can go in the 'right direction' with a positive transfer window.
He added: "I think we've got the nucleus of a very good team with the emergence of some extremely good young players.
"It really excites me. I think if we can get the right balance with the right recruitment strategy, the club will move in the right direction.
"It is always difficult in January but we do some funds there to be able to move in the transfer window.
"We've got to make sure we use our budget properly and the preparation we're putting in at the moment will put us in a good position come January."

I seriously want SP to succeed and for CCFC to being playing attractively winning football but I really do not buy in to much of what he has said of late.

The article makes it seem that such preparation is unusual - well why would that be because this is work that should be done every transfer window.
It makes it seem like we are ahead of the game - really so the other 71 FL teams sit and wait do they.
So he stopped a player going out on loan not because he wanted to keep him but because he couldn't get the "right " to want to come here (wonder what stopped them?) - depends how you read it doesn't it.
We are getting rid of some players - well actually their loans are finishing in the main the worrying thing is that we are targeting 7 in but 9 out so reducing the squad that is already hard pressed both in depth and quality.
The youngsters coming through - to be honest I am a little worried about the reliance on giving 16 year olds contracts and putting then in the first team squad - youngsters have to be treated carefully, allowed rests, allowed to make mistakes, allowed to be in and out of the squad. That's not just because the squad needs depth but if these "stars" are to have a good and long future (hopefully at CCFC) they must be allowed time to do it properly not burn out as cannon fodder for the first team. If they are good enough yes (gradually) but are they strong enough for L1?
Past recruitment has been shall we say less than convincing, that does not bode well for the future to be honest. SP says he has too many loans - I thought he picked the players and SW did the deal so surely SP is closely involved in the process?
Will we get some pace, some midfield bite and strength, a decent commanding keeper?

I wonder what the budget is?. Is there cash for fees or are we talking moving finances around to bring in loans and free agents? If we are reducing the squad size I think it points to the latter

Remains to be seen but right now I do not have much faith in choosing the right players let alone doing the deal. I would dearly love him to be right but ...........

Good post OSB.
I too would like to see him succeed but hey we will soon find out if he is really up to it.
As for attractive football that is what will bring the fans back, therefore increasing the balance sheet.
The football of late has been dire which has stopped the occasional supporters from coming and our attendances dropping, even our great away support has suffered and they are usually the more die hard fans.

it's the large numbers of players in and out that gets me. how can you build something if you're always dismantling it?
also the length of time that some of these players leaving have been here is so short that you have to question how effective the scouting and recruiting is in the first place.

I like the way it bigs up conceding 1 goal in 4 game, we've only scored 1 goals in the last 3 league games.

Yeah but It Is a start Stu.

Critical time for him but he has bought himself till Jan with "us" I think .

I don't think he's In any danger from the boardroom ,however gates will not Improve If the fayre on show doesn't entertain ,that will bring

pressures ,strange If It didn't .

I agree it's a start, but we seem incapable of keeping it tight whilst also creating chances. We look sterile in attack and midfield and tbh we're lucky walsall and Colchester are as impotent in attack as us. And still what 20 of games into the season, SP or actually us the fans don't know what our best side is.

We have had a very balanced side most of this season. Shit GK, shit defence, shit midfield and shit strikeforce.

usual bullshit we get before any transfer window..."no stone unturned"..."have a list of players the manager wants" etc etc...and every time the squad gets worse. Usually the phrases are carefully worded...i speculate that funds in this case means they will be paying the replacements and not a net increase or a transfer fund.
call me cynical...

Very much in the Thorn mould where lots of games were decided by 1 goal (19 games in the relegation season).

How can we have a nucleus of a good squad at the bottom end of leauge 1?

How is the squad better than last year?

Im begining to think SP is losing the plot.

going back 18 months or so maybe longer pressley said he could not build a team on to many loan players etc......

seems to me after contract extension he is now towing the partyline and now lost creditbility

Balance of the team is critical
Straight forward 442 two similar players in each position. Then supplement the rest of the squad with kids please.

The Balance part means

Signing a defensive midfielder
Losing 3 strikers and signing two
Signing two wingers.
Signing an experienced goalkeeper
Release DP and sign a left back.

That's it

the harsh facts are, it seems to me, that SP will be told what to do, concerning transfers,
OUR CLUB WILL BE FURTHER REDUCED by the owners,
the continued mis-management of the club will prevail,
Igwe, Dulieu, Clouting, Brody, etc.,
and the FA will be totally silent,
this really is the time for all football supporters to question the governing of the beautiful game,
and, for the dubious / dodgy /disingenuous owners to DO ONE

How dare you question our glorious owners you know SP has a free hand in all he does;)

A simple but brilliant question which unfortunately the journalists at the CT and CWR don't have the bollocks to ask. I bet the morale is rock bottom after he has yet again told players (currently under permanent contracts) that they are no longer required. I doubt that he has the respect of any of the senior players as he is making a bomb squad in each transfer window!

Why wasn't this planning don't months ago? You could copy and paste his interview from last January and we all know how well that turned out!

Not hopeful but happy to be proven wrong. He hasn't done anything to suggest that he is the man to take us forward during his 2 years here.

Building with a young squad, 3-5 year plans, long term projects. They're all bollocks. Just words to keep poor managers in place in the short term.

Their ain't a team in the land that isn't planning for long term success.

SP talks shit, this is as bad as most can remember.

Steven Pressley has been given the green light to recruit four or five players as he looks to shuffle his Sky Blues pack in the January transfer window.

The City boss, who spent the free weekend checking out targets, admits he’s got to juggle the books by offloading a number of existing players, both on loan and permanent signings.

Asked if he’s got a transfer budget, he said: “Yes there is. We’re not talking here about a transfer kitty where we can go out and sign players for thousands of pounds, but there are areas in the budget where we can free up wages to entice players to the club.

...................................................................................................................

Thousands ?

Not even "ten's of thousands". Thats grim. Where is the 60% of Wilson sale that Waggot said would be available to SP ?
