“It was just one of those things where the club came to me and said ‘a bid had been put forward’ and obviously, when a bid is accepted you have options but you don’t have that many in reality because it means the club want you to go,” he said.

“If the people at the top have accepted an amount of money for you then it is probably best to move on because if you stay you are only going to be upsetting those people.

"Whether that’s right or wrong, that’s the way it is.”

Turner’s £750,000 plus switch, coupled with a sell-on fee from Birmingham’s sale of Scott Dann to Blackburn Rovers, enable City to balance their books enough to keep hold of other high profile players on transfer deadline day this week.

“I don’t really have an in-depth understanding of running the club but it seems at the minute that Coventry are having to sell players and make cuts rather than reinvest,” he said.

“If the money is not there it’s not there and that’s not a criticism of anyone.

"But to go forward you need people putting money into the club and hopefully that will happen there.

“Hopefully Coventry will keep what they have got now and move forward because it would be a shame if they lose too many players and jeopardise their status as a club.

"You need to keep as many players as you can in this league and build around them, but I have no doubt there is enough quality there to put a good run together.

yup, looks like he didn't really want to go and was pushed out. Can't really blame him for not wanting to go, i mean as much as we're at the wrong end of the table, he still came through our youth team.

Good luck to Ben, he's never really done anything wrong (although was more than a little wobbly for one season) and could easily have been our captain in a few years.

Good business by SISU for a change.

Good business by SISU for a change.

It would of been good business if they invested all the money back into the team not into SISU pockets. I have no problem selling players if the team is invested in, we are still a very thread bare squad

We can't expect them to throw money which they haven't got around, the team was invested in, it may not be as much as we wanted or need, but it was the most SISU were willing to give us, our starting 11 will be better on saturday then it was last saturday. They could have pocketed the lot and just claim them as running costs. The season Burnley got promoted they used only something like 21 players all season, It's more about quality then it is quantity, and you tend to either go down one route or the other (unless your a top 4 club). The lack of dept is worrying, but what is more worrying to me is having to rely on the likes of Baker & Bell who Thorn seems to rate quite highly.

dont disagree with what you say marty but if we get a few more injuries or the new lad gets injured we are well and truly screwed so we do need a few more players we will be luck to survive with what we have now when bookings start being picked up by the players:thinking about:

Nice Kid .Always tried his best ,made his ricks early on but eventually matured showing true promise.always felt those mistakes affected him for afew games,even now he blames himself for that west ham goal,Carlton Cole clearly fouled him.Just goes to show the value bringing the kids through,2-3 need to be brought through each season.

Dosent look like Cranie will be signing a new deal, we would have got £750k for him no problem so why not try and offer him instead of Turner, next summer now when Cranie walks for free we will be 2 centre backs down and we will have only recouped £750k for the pair!!

For all we slate the people on here to kiss SISU's arse (not that I've ever seen one) I do think we're being over-critical here.
It was sell a Turner who has been injured for nearly a year and keep Juke/Clingan + bring in a young Striker, or keep Turner and sell the others. Like it or not, we need money to survive and I feel the move made sense (though the rumoured £750k is far too little for Turner.)

I think it was a nice parting farewell, nothing nasty said about us, the club or the owners.

Somebody can have all the talent in the world, but if they are always injuried, whats the point?? We don't know the true figure of the transfer, but as he hadn't played for nearly one year, at no point in his career completed a full season without injury, (infact the most games he has ever played in a season is 24). His value is always going to be less then what someone of the same quality who rarely gets injuried,

Now don't get me wrong, I thought Ben was playing very well last season, but so far that little patch of 10-15 is a purple patch in what so far has been a very mediocre career of his,

I agree that I too would have sold Cranie ahead of Turner just so we would recoup some of the inital outlay for the player, but Cranie can be relied on to play 35+ games a season, suits our current style of play alot better then what Turner would have, Cranie is also alot more versatile and holds more worth (to the team) with our lack off funds then Turner who can only play one position.

Another point I would like to raise, as far as i'm aware nobody was really intrested in Cranie, you can only sell players if somebody is willing to pay the cash, and nobody was willing to offer/meet the asking price for Cranie.

I maintain that I think SISU done a good deal, btw i'm not a SISU fan or anti SISU.

I forgot Turner was a seasoned pro who had proved himself year after year and plays for one of the biggest clubs in the world. Would Man United need to sell to buy a forward because they can't score?? struggerling at the bottom on the league, thought not. Completely different situations which can't be compared.

Would you of been happy to off kept Turner to bring nobody in, or sell Clingan or Lukas to bring Cody in??

Maybe SISU did claim to bring in 2-4 players (i can't remember) but the reality is we have only purchased Cody from the funds that were released from the sale of Turner.

Not a chance can you compare the importance of Ferdinand & Vedic to Turner, if we are liking our players to Man United's then I would suggest Turner is more of a Carrick, you would like him there and is solid enough, but you know sooner or later hes going to be injuried, and there is plenty of cover so although being a blow, it would be no great loss.

Try comparing the difference in points-per-game of City with Turner in the team and not to Vidic/Ferdinand in the team or not. Both Vidic and Ferdinand miss a lot of games through injury, hence another reason for the comparison. Plus, of course, I rate Turner much higher than you do.

You can use stats all your like, but it doesn't take into account the variables, and can sometimes give a very different look on something then what is the truth.

Thats no problem to me, football is all about opinions.
