Theres a break from 29th November - 20th December for Cov games at the Ricoh (Unless JPT fixture is at home) I'm unsure what other games are scheduled in that time but with Wasps set to play there first game on 21st December it would seem an ideal time period for Wasps to do something about the pitch, whether that be installing a new pitch or whatever would need to be done.

They really need to send some under 21 games away and pay them back or whatever. It's not fair really. You could in theory have a game a day there but it wouldn't any sort of pitch like now.

A solution must be found and quick.

Anyone have any pics from years back when highfield was just mud and sand?

Yet another major oversight by the powers that be.

10 matches per month instead of 3 - in the middle of winter - bang goes any pretense of SP's philosophy of applying the "passing game on this soon to be mud bath - the mind boggles

from what I understand the gaming festival will not be using the pitch area at the end of the month. The event this month is nowhere near as big as the August one.

I wouldn't claim for a moment to be an expert, but in truth I can't see that you'll be able to do too much in that short a window, particularly at this time of year when you can't really get stuff to grow. In fairness, a really badly damaged pitch can't always be adequately repaired even in the close season in summer.

The long term solution is probably one of those Desso pitches, part natural, part artificial - but they're expensive and Wasps may not see the point if CCFC are still talking about leaving in a few years.

Like everything else to do with CCFC, Wasps and the Ricoh, it's a proper mess. There might be a grown up solution, but I don't think I'd trust any of the parties involved to be able to find one.

Edit: Other than being an astronaut, one of the jobs that I'd really, really like to do would be a groundsman. Odd, I know, but there's something really beautiful about a well-laid pitch. Ahem. :)

We could be back in Northampton by then!

Who is responsible for the state of the pitch ACL or the football club ? At the moment there's been no rugger played there yet so we can't blame that. I would have thought the football club would have their own groundsman as they have Ryton to keep up to scratch too. We are only just getting into the winter period and if the pitch is bad now what is it going to be like come February, unless tight arses sisu are banking on Wasps to sort it out.

In fairness if ACL are renting it out to all and sundry, then it wouldn't exactly seem reasonable to put the burden of upkeep on CCFC would it?

Regardless, again given the number of games being played on it, and the gaming festivals etc., the best groundsmen in the world would be able to keep it in order. There's plenty of stuff to blame SISU for, but I can't see that you can blame them for ACL allowing a damaging level of activity on the pitch.

Why on earth should we sort it out? Wasps/ACL should do it.

Of course Wasps should be sorting it out, they are the land lord.

Just imagine it when there've been a few scrums in the goal areas. To be honest I've so much contempt for everyone involved I'm looking forward to the embarrassment when the whole thing turns into Glastonbury.

I thought that one of the "innovations" when we moved to the Ricoh was the pitch had under soil heating and a buried mesh that helped the grass laid on it grow more substantial roots?
After doing a quick Wicki search to look up what these new semi artificial pitches consist of, this the basic theory behind the Desso pitches anyway.
The pitch was atrocious before we left for Shitfields after SISU cut the groundstaff funding, even at the charity game at the start of last season, the pitch from close inspection (when we all went onto the pitch at the end) looked pretty threadbare and not as "lush" as I anticipated after a close seasons nurturing from the Ricoh groundstaff considering that they had had the Olympic matches on aswell?

How long would the Desso pitch take to be installed, could it be done in the time frame I suggested?

ACL have today acknowledged the pitch needs improving so it will be interesting to see what they will do.
