As per usual it is nothing but.
Lot of high horse riding going on these past few days on here I feel.
Looking at the whole picture I can see why people's opinions differ and it's not just as straight forward as black and white as it may seem. Some is black, some is white, large chunks are great big grey areas.
Arguments on both sides.
* Franchise coming in.
*We obviously endured the Northampton saga. Similar situation.
* Wasps situation - Been a bit nomadic. Seeking new home. Already playing 50 miles away from their home since they moved to Wycombe
* Rugby not seemingly quite the same as football in terms of relocating, merging and rebranding. More commonplace.
* Rugby fans seemingly not as tribal as football fans.
* Council hypocritical after complaining re Northampton stealing our team.
* CCFC forever saying they would not stay at the Ricoh and current deal for 2 years + a further 2. As it stood, City moving out in 4 years, Ricoh without a team in 4 years.
* No bid from CCFC for the Ricoh, council and ACL need to make contingency measures to replace CCFC if and when they leave. Offer on table now. Do they wait until it is too late? How long would Wasps hang around for?
* Cov rugby not as vehemently opposed as one might expect.
*Council jumped the gun. Could have waited until consultation had taken place with the likes of the SBT and supporters’ consultation groups.
*Council needed to look after the best interests of Coventry as a whole and that means the entire electorate, not just the 13,000 fans who go to the City and Cov.
*Total distrust between CCFC owners and ACL and our council. Sisu still pursuing legal action. Bad blood
*CCFC RIP if stay as a tenant
* CCFC RIP if we relocate
*CCFC no change, just different landlord.
*CCC and ACL now removed from equation. Very much a plus point.
* Wasps say they want CCFC there (need CCFC there)
* Wasps will bleed us dry.
* CCC should have never, ever accepted a franchise into our city.
*If CCFC leave and CCC need to bring a sports team into the Ricoh, then who if not a team from outside, ie. franchise? Too big for CRFC. Cov united? (joke) If they didn’t bring a franchise team in then the Ricoh would indeed become a white elephant.
*Having a team come in from a different sport, to which you have no afinity, does not produce the same level of emotion as having your own team taken away.
Forgive me if I missed anything, but to me there is not an awful lot in there that is clear black or white. Wasps definitely a franchise, that’s as plain as day. CCC should have consulted and delayed their vote, even if it were just for a matter of days.
A lot of the other stuff on here is in the grey area. We don’t know that it will be RIP CCFC if we stay as a tenant. Some are saying it is a good deal for us, some are saying it will be a bad deal for us to remain.
Bottom line is, Wasps are here. Other than boycott their games (guessing most of us aren’t particularly rugby fans though anyway), there’s not an awful lot we can do.
Personally I am glad that ACL and CCC are out of the picture and that we are remaining at the Ricoh. At the end of the day all I want is to watch my Coventry City team play in Coventry. We have got that. I very much see that as a plus.
Let’s face it, were Sisu ever going to get their hands on the Ricoh? Seems to me like it’s the best of a bad job we have right now.
Saddened that it has come to this and Wasps are here, but I am not outraged, really angry or disgusted. Don’t think it will ever sit comfortably with me, but I am not exactly spitting blood over the matter. Can see the arguments for both sides and mistakes have been made on all sides.
What we need to do now is to try and support City and Cov as best we can and turn up in numbers wherever we can. CCFC can be a success here if we have success on the pitch I feel. Bums on seats is going to bring in revenue and a new generation of City fans to the club.
On a side note, there’s a lad in my daughter’s class, aged 10, who has always been a Coventry City fan. Always had a shoulder bag with CCFC emblazoned on it. Always been a Sky Blue supporter.
Now he suddenly has a Man City bag. He changed allegiance while we were at Sixfields after he could no longer go and watch the City.. Very much understand that position. He's lost forever I would have thought.
For me, while we were at Northampton it very much felt like I no longer had a football team.
Think we have lost a lot of fans, who lost a lot of hope.
We are here now though, at the Ricoh and we need to give the Sky Blues all the possible support we can muster. That is the number one priority and the only way out of this mess.
Can't see much point keep being disgusted and outraged etc. It's going to get us nowhere and will probably just yet again result in the us and them factions we had with the Sixfields will go/won't go situation.
We need unity. More than ever.
