Coventry City manager Steven Pressley believes his players would receive a “huge lift” ahead of the new season should they be allowed to return to the Ricoh Arena.
The club are currently seeking a solution with the stadium’s numerous owners that would see them play their home fixtures back in the town in which they were formed.
Last season, the League One club were forced to play their home games 35 miles away at Northampton Town’s Sixfields stadium in front of hugely reduced crowds.
The Football League as well as owning parties Sisu, Otium, ACL and Coventry City Council have all expressed a desire to begin discussions to bring the club home.
And Pressley told Sky Sports News: “It would be fantastic for everybody involved with the club but especially the supporters, who have endured a great deal over the last 16 to 18 months.
“In the last close-season we were dealt the hammer-blow of a 10-point deduction on the eve of the season, so it would be fantastic to receive a boost in this pre-season that we can return to the club’s home.
“It will make a massive difference. There’s no guarantee it would in terms of results but in terms of the feel-good-factor around the club it would make a huge difference.
“It would be wonderful to play at your home ground and I do think the players would receive a huge list from that kind of news.”
Coventry City supporters group the Sky Blue Trust issued an open letter to all parties involved in the dispute on Tuesday, urging them to work towards a solution.
“No one is benefiting from this ridiculous situation,” the letter said.
“The Sky Blue Trust once again asks the question of the Football League, Sisu, Otium, Coventry City Council and ACL: You have the power to end this so why not?
“This is a pivotal moment in the history of Coventry City - a time for action not excuses. Agree a fair rent, agree match-day fees, and agree to allow CCFC access to match-day revenue turnover to make Financial Fair Play figures viable.”

micheal i may be wrong but i think this is a huge moment

I agree, Steven Pressley hasn't previously stated his own opinion on the matter and has kept relatively distant from the matter while also remain imperative, but this time SP is talking about it and the affects it would have on the Club, there is something in the pipeline here or else SP is getting over excited.

I'd say 20,000. Depends on how many NOPM/ "Not returning til SISU go" there are.

Personally, I just want them back at the Ricoh.

Absolutely right, only thing that matters is the team playing in its home. Numbers are irrelevant. 5 k or 32k its about whats right.

If we were to start the season back at the Ricoh I would be there for the first home game. I think many others would too, just to show solidarity against our appalling owners.

Having said that, I would not be going back to having a season ticket straight away. I wouldn't trust them not to have a big fall-out and flounce back to Sixfields, leaving me with a worthless asset. So the ST will not be renewed until we have new owners. It would be a few hand-picked games only. That's something I never imagined saying after having a season ticket for the previous 46 years.

To be fair, that's a sensible idea. Maybe those who say they will not return until sisu are gone would consider this approach?

Hate to sound cynical but if Sisu/Otium are now saying about a return to the Ricoh, is he not just toeing the party line but he gets to do the heart string work as no-one would believe it if Fisher or Labovitch said it. Is this just another way of Sisu cranking up the pressure on ACL? As much as I would want a return like everyone else, the nearer the start of the season gets then the further a quick return looks likely. Look at all of the things that need to be in place for a home game from tickets, stewards, parking, food, policing to away fans arranging travel plans. This could of and should of been happening the moment last season finished.

Just hope we are not setting ourselves up for another major disappointment.

I would not blame you for not getting a season ticket. SISU could take the money and flee at a drop of a hat if the FL let them or liquidate club.

However surely the best response to SISU is to fill the Ricoh to as near as possible.
I know the current league we are playing is also pathetic and extra money would go to SISU.

Having big crowds surely has to be a good thing on all sorts of levels.

SP has NEVER tried the 'party line'. The reason, I believe he is voicing his opinion is because he is trying to bring players in. We are a 'big' club if we are connected to the Ricoh. But, if he is trying to bring in championship players their heads would obviously be turned if we are in a 32,000 stadium rather than a ground that rates just above Nuneaton's.

Just saw SP on skysports news he does seem confident on a return !!!

Such is the groundswell of support for SP from fans, players and media alike I do believe we can attract 15,000+ for the first few games then if mounting a promotion challenge possibly 17,500+ onwards and upwards all the way to the end of the season.

One game at the Ricoh = Nearly a whole season in revenue at Northampton.

Sisu just don't realise the absolute potential of our club, they really don't. They are sitting on a goldmine - if only they would put their brain in gear and tried negotiating in a decent manner.

The problem is that after 50 years of going to every home game, the Saturday routine has now gone. For the last 15 years that routine involved 25 miles each way for wife and me, and now we do other things at weekends. So it's not just a principle, it is the practicality as well as not being willing to risk losing the money. (Yes, I know I could buy a ST on a credit card.) Getting back into watching football would be gradual, just going when we could. We take several holidays a year, and we no longer have to consult the fixture list to fit them in, for instance.

I think it is very sad that so many older fans like me have almost become resigned to not seeing the club in Coventry again. The disappointment has already happened though, and I have no real expectation of us returning to the Ricoh. Even if we did, it will take a lot more to recover the ones who have given up attending matches.

Yes, but sadly the people who own the club do actually seem to have no brains.

"The Stadiums numerous owners"? If that is the degree of knowledge the rest is probably bollocks.

Are you being serious here Nick or just playing devil's advocate again? If you really don't know then I would suggest. you take into account that we are one of the largest one club city's in the UK...we have been starved of anything to shout about for the last god know's how many years and our club has been taken away from us and been placed 35 miles away from the place most of us have our reason for supporting the club in the first place. Potentially we are a very big club Nick and the sooner those that try and underplay that potential stop putting us down the better as far as I'm concerned. Some would happily have us at the bottom of League 1 because they believe that's our natural position but they are talking bollox!
