A silly idea (2 Viewers)

Hello, Walsall fan in peace - honestly!

I'm an infrequent browser on here ever since the Coventry Telegraph political editor (don't they have a sports reporter?) - the Midlands Journalist Of The Year - erroneously reported that Sisu was likely to ground-share with us.

I've read numerous threads about protest ideas - most of them would never work; and if they did would hardly advance the cause. I've got another suggestion for you:

Many football clubs have fans teams that play each other when their respective first teams are playing - the Saddlers have a team and play home and away. I don't know if your lot have one, but if you did...

Why not talk with ACL about playing your home matches at the Ricoh on Saturday mornings? That way your fans can watch Coventry at the Ricoh (albeit the fans' team) and you'd get a fair few of the opposition fans turning up too. If this was priced correctly you could end up getting more at the Ricoh to watch two amateur teams than Sisu get at the Sixfields.

In terms of messaging, this would be a massive symbolic victory and - like your large away attendances - demonstrate to the footballing world (particularly the embarrassments that are the FA and FL) that Coventry fans haven't given up on their club; and that the Ricoh remains available as your rightful home.

Get your hard hat on. A few will have a go and tell you how stupid your idea is as it will give money to ACL :(

Sounds good to me though.

One thing we're trying to do is get an Independent Inquiry using ccfc as an example of problems facing football generally using an epetition called 'Without Fans there is no Football' - http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/59884. It was only launched on Thursday and is the number 2 trending epetition. Any help spreading the word with Walsall fans would be great!

I've already signed that - I'll drop a note on the Walsall board.

I'm 10000% sure we have a supporters team. I'm also sure many of them browse this forum and are likely to see it!

So complex is this wreak, that some blame the stadium seats for our teams demise. (Stadium Forum)

There will be those that will suggest that giving money to ACL would be picking sides.

And others that will say that each pie brought at the Ricoh will be spat in by a councillor, and the profits used to fund secret orgies.

And others that will suggest that it is a master plan to replace CCFC.

Others would see it as an important protest against being at Sixfields.

only a small section would see it as a game of football.

Only real help we can get now is support from the football community to bring this all out in the open. So sign the petition for the chance to have a Select committee on the subject.

Certainly would explain why Fisher wants to get his hands on the food and beverage revenues then

Nice one. The pro acl/pro sisu posters are out in force at the moment so your idea is not silly at all but don't hold your breath!

Are you saying that if you have had enough of the bullshit we have taken from SISU you are pro ACL? Or should we forget everything they have done and blame both sides the same?

Sorry Astute. I'm not suggesting this at all and apologies if you feel I'm criticising you because that is not the case at all. The point I've been trying to make is that just as there are posters on here (and people on twitter, FB etc) who will always find a justification of anything sisu does and appear to be motivated by being pro sisu, there are also people who as soon as a question is asked about acl are on here very quickly justifying anything acl do ie their motivation appears to be being pro acl. Some people on here use anonymity to hide who they are and present themselves as ordinary fans when that is not the case. I have never bought into having to be pro/anti acl/sisu - I am pro team and pro fans and that's it. Who is to blame for the mess we're in is a different matter. It's the surge in activity by people whose chief motive seems to be to support acl or sisu that is interesting at the moment

Maybe looking at it as "who do you believe the most".

Where we should be looking at it like "who do you disbelieve the most".

Seems that disbelieving what one person says is total support for anyone who might hold a similar view.

..So sharing a similar view on one point equals being pro that person.

I like to walk my dog. Tim Fisher likes to walk his dog....OMG I am Pro Tim Fisher.

From the original post, i think it is a great idea. I have no issue with any COventry related team playing at the ricoh as afterall its what its there for. Sadly i dont think it would take off until fans have well as truely moved on from their club 35 miles away. Until that first brick is laid on a the ground elsewhere, then i think our fans will realise they dont have a local club and maybe create one ala AFC Wimbledon.

It is a bit easier than that for me. One side has been caught out lying several times. The other side hasn't.

Who are the two councils they are in advanced talks with?

Where did they say the ground is being built?

What was plan A?

What rent was they going to be happy with?

Oh pie money as well?

Why are we going to Northampton? Oh yes it is the freehold that is needed now......although the leasehold would give them everything they need to run our club. But we will make the fans suffer until we get what we need. That is making our investors happy.

Now a list of the council lies.

Unsubstantiated accusations from SISU.

I wonder which one I should trust the most.

That is your own opinion based on the information you have managed to read.

It does not mean you are "pro" anyone.

My point is simply sharing a similar opinion to someone else does not make you a supporter of them. Neither does disliking one side automatically make you a supporter of the other.

Which is my exact point :D

And heard !

The majority of the above has come out of SISU's mouth, often at fans forums, so its not as if it can be printed out of context

The next being that in approx 48 hours they will be able to announce the location of the new stadium !

I thought supporter matches were played at the home venue in the morning of the match? Fans stick around a few hours. Then watch the first team. Does this idea mean away supporters will travel to Cov on a Saturday, go home, then travel to Northampton on a Sunday? Am I missing something?

Oh if it was all so easy? Who pays match day cost, prepares the pitch, turns the lights on etc for what a couple hundred fanatics?
I admire the idea but is a non starter I'm afraid.
I would suggest if it was organised well ahead and you sold a few thousand tickets for it, then they might open the Ricoh for you.

No - normally they're played at a local non-league ground or parks pitch.

You're missing something!

If you're at home on the Saturday the match would be played on the Saturday morning.
If you're at home on the Sunday the match would be played on the Sunday morning.

- Northampton's too far for fans to be asked to travel for a home match; but I'm convinced that many away fans will happily call into Coventry on their way to Northampton - especially if there's the chance for a pint or two first!

I doubt that Fester's U21s will sell a few thousand tickets. And I'm sure that the Ricoh team are already preparing the pitch (they wouldn't want it going to grass!). All that is needed is an approach to the Ricoh by whoever organises your fans' team (thats if the fan's team think it's a good idea). All the Ricoh can do is say yes or no - it won't involve them in much work, they wouldn't need to open the whole stadium up and the publicity they could generate in the ongoing tit-for-tat would be beneficial to them.

Thanks for putting me straight on the day these matches are played. I did not know that. I know we play at 'home' on a Sunday though. So was wondering why you mentioned Saturday in your OP

In your opinion should these matches be played in the General Coventry area? Or general Northampton area? Are away fans, likely to accept a 35 mile detour for a fans match? Petrol and trains don't come cheap. And we don't have a station. Or a carpark for that matter!

Can you actually be helpful and tell me what 1/8th is as a percentage? Today's other stupid thread got closed before I could enquire
