COVENTRY City’s players report back for pre-season duty on Friday when there is expected to be a couple of new faces at the club - Joe Murphy and Chris Dunn.

The goalkeepers are hoped to have completed their free transfers, from Scunthorpe and Northampton respectively, in time to hook up with their new team-mates for the first time.

The Sky Blues will be put through a number of fitness tests on Friday and Saturday before manager Andy Thorn takes a 22-man squad out to Portugal for a gruelling week-long training camp.

“We are looking forward to getting the boys back,” said the City boss, who revealed that last season’s injured players Ben Turner, James McPake and Gary McSheffrey have all recovered and will fly out to begin the club’s summer training regime.

“We are taking 22 out and that will hopefully include three goalkeepers, including Lee Burge.

"Danny Ireland is still injured at the moment and won’t be fit to start the season, so he’ll be staying behind with some of the younger boys who will then hook up with us when we get back.

“Ben, James and Gary are all fit for pre-season which is good news and hopefully all the boys will come back in good shape after following their individual programmes over the summer.

“They will all be weighed and have fat tests and hopefully we will hit the ground running because we don’t want to be wasting time getting people’s weight down.

“Callum Wilson will also be staying behind for on-going treatment because he was nursing a knock at the end of last season, so we will ease him back in.”

Teenager Conor Thomas will also travel to the Algarve training camp after recovering from an injury that cut short his loan spell with Liverpool at the end of last term, and the promising midfielder is now back at City full-time after his proposed permanent move fell through.

Why didn't we wrap up the deal with Chris Dunn yesterday? Glad to hear Murphy's coming in as our number 1 even though I think Dunn could be a gem.

qucik point, where does AT mention Murphy ?

He doesn't. Lets hope this is not a 2+2 =5 telegraph story. AT mentions 3 gk's, thats all. It could be another youngster.

Where does he mention Dunn? He doesn't. He just says three keepers including Burge, meaning we're going to sign two keepers. It's fairly obvious who those two are!
