Does anyone else not like using the word Cov... (5 Viewers)

I always thought that when Cov was referred to it was the rugby team and we were the City or Sky Blues, I don't like Coventry being shortened, Brummies do it and it drives me nuts...am I alone in this? It makes me wince a little when I here the keep Cov in Cov...although I obviously agree with the sentiments of the campaign, just not the name, Keep City in Coventry?

Yes I did thank you, with my 5 year old, he loved it...it brought back a few good memories walking with such a big crowd from Gosford to town, lots of faces from old too.

On a similar subject, I dont like it when people refer to Coventry as my "home town". It seems to have been a fairly recent thing . Coventry is obviously a city.

Another annoying thing, I also refer to Coventry as City and always will whilst we still exist. It always annoyed me in the past when "City" was sometimes quoted in the media it was in reference to Manchester City even when they were pretty rubbish. There are lots of cities and if one club should have that term then that should be Birmingham City as its bigger than Manc and indeed the second City.

This annoyance has gone to different levels now with the Middle East takeover of Manchester City. Now "City" is quoted all the time as them. Im afraid now we are totally stuck with "City" meaning Manchester City now.

This is from someone who lives in the city of Manc and no affinity for Manchester United either.

Agree. There are loads of City's. There is only one Cov.

If I go to any town or city and I hear anyone saying 'City' I have no idea who they are talking about. It they say 'Cov' I know exactly who they are talking about.

I never use the term 'Cov' but I have no problem with it whatsoever.

I think we're all violently agreeing that this is deep in the quibble zone (a Brodyism surely) and I too am willing to put aside my annoyance of the use of the term Cov for the greater good - it was indeed always used in The Evening Telegraph as the term for the Rugby Team.
For what its worth, in my experience we were "The City" rather than "City", as in "what about The City eh? Bloody useless again" on most Monday mornings at work.
Also "Going down the Town" was the term for going into the City Centre - not an exclusive local phrase I think.

Glad you made it and had a great experience with your kid. I wasn't going to come up from London but on the morning my wife could see I was agitated and dying to go and offered to look after the little ones for the day - so I dived in the car and just made it for the first chorus of the Sky Blue Song. It was a brilliant day and, like you, really enjoyed catching up with lots of old mates and even people i had chatted to for 25 years. Reminded us all that we are the football club!!

also glad you made it, it was a great turnout i was surprised as i thought it might of been in the hundreds, rather than the 4000/5000 quoted. it was great to see the sea of sky blue, i was speaking to people that don't even go up to the games anymore or they don't really count themselves as fans, but they fell that strongly that they turned up to march, the olds Coventry spirit shone through that day...

Having worked in Cologne for two years I can give you the answer. Borussia Monchengladbach are shortened to "Gladbach".
This is more surprising than you would think because there is a different place near Cologne called Gladbach. Monchengladbach itself is withing 30K of Cologne.

Here's me thinking i was the only one who gets irritated by this. I find non sky blues in Nuneaton refer to us as Cov alot.
