This passing game (3 Viewers)

apparently Pressley wants the team to be playing on the deck, and a passing game. and this will be good on a pitch that's like a carpet, (say the ricoh, before any footballs played on it)

but how will be able to play this passing game at grounds with awful pitches? or will this be the excuse for our one and only playing style being ineffective?

not having a go, but i can see this being our downfall (footballing wise)
we need to be able to adapt to each game as it comes

Right way to play football but very difficult if idiots are shouting "forward, forward" every time we try and construct a move patiently. Some of our fans wouldnt be happy watching Barcelona.

im not saying it's not the right way to play, but we should have more than 1 playing style

After years of despondancy I want a winning game, one that earns promotion and yes if that means a "Wimbledon" approach so be it, we can fine tune things later.

All well and good but that style doesn't work on a torn up pitch in league one in they middle of January??

thats my point. we need to be able to play a good passing game, then when we are at shit grounds (CREWE :p) play a mixture of in the air to grab a winner.

It just sounds the same as the Thorn era, how we were playing great passing football and people should stop moaning, where did that get us?

I'd much rather play hoof ball and win games than pass it across the back 4 for 55 minutes and lose 2-0

yeh lets focus on thorns, not martinez, poyet, zola, adkins etc

the fact that you dismiss all passing games as boring and non attacking shows that you dont have the patience for it

you want kick and rush, blood and guts etc...football has moved on,you need to aswell.

I am not dismissing all passing games as boring, I am dismissing the ones where they don't work or get us results with the manager too stubborn or not good enough to be able to change it up a bit when it isn't working.

I am not saying we should get 2 big strikers and play hoof ball, I am saying I would prefer to play that way IF it got us better results than playing passing football. Wherever we play next season if the pitch is like a carpet then let's go for nice football and some good results, rather than trying to play passing football on a shit pitch and then blaming the pitch for us losing like Pressley was doing at the end of last season.

Have we got the players with the necessary technical skill to play a possession game?

If we don't, doesn't matter how much Pressley tries to instil it into the players, it won't work.

I personally hate that traditional English hoofball kick and rush style, I'm all for short passing and quick movement, but if you don't have the players with the skill, what can you do?

Plus our version of passing was running it down the wing, passing it back to the full back, to centre back, to centre back, to other full back (by this time he is under pressure), back to Murphy who just whacks it.

Summed it up perfectly lol. I still don't see the problem with mixing it up. Play nice passing football. Then occasionally run down the wing and whip it in. And we need to sort out our corners while we are on this subject!

Provided we have good wingers/wide players this would be a good approach. Got to have more than one string to the bow.

Also, how many corners did we have last season and fail to score from? I think at one stage I was trying to keep count and it got to about 120, then I stopped.

Absolutely unforgivable that a team at any level could earn so many set pieces and convert approximately two-fifths of fuck all of them.

The corners are always overhit or underhit. You can see how pissed off the defenders get as they then have to run back.

Baker and McSheffrey always used to do that short corner and then bugger it up.

I hate short corners. I understand their tactical application but I bloody hate them. I find that buggering them up is the norm, not the exception.

Is it wanting him to play differently, or wanting to have something else up our sleeve in case the slow tempo, high possession game isn't working?

he says he has a plan b,what more can he do until the team actually plays?

there seems to be alot of fans who dont wanna give the passing a chance full stop from what i can see mate(not you)

This is a good strategy. But you need good passers, a great pitch (which we have at the ricoh) and players who dont hog the ball. If we use it in the right way, it could work like a dream, but we need some good passers

to see it at its best yeh i agree, but if we wait for great players we might not be able to use formation till we are in premier league! lol

it can work in lower leaguies and we just need to find right balance

we are find passing in defence and keeping it simple in midfield, our problem lies with attacking passes from midfield forwards, that needs to be addressed by pressley

The first few weeks of training need to be focused on passing if this system is gona work. You cant just say 'ey up lads, this is the new system, good luck in the game 2moro', it takes time and a lot of work, plus the right sort of player. If we get the new owners we want, we can bring in players who can use that system. If it works, it can gain us promotion, if we fuck it up, we're stuck with players who know only 1 way of football. Its risky but you gotta take risks to get to where you want
