Boothroyd finished with a terrible run of form that saw us on an alarming drop towards the bottom amidst dwindling interest and zero entertainment, playing a style of football that often saw us dominated by the opposition, even when winning at times. There's a lot of justified bashing.

At the start of the season we had a reputation for being a strong team and I do remember sitting up the Ricoh enjoying us dominating the opposition. This happened more than once! People are very quick to forget good form. We didn't get to 5th by letting the opposition dominate us!

i'll have to run the stats (or someone else could) but Boothroyds team generally had around 10-20 chances a game, we just couldnt find the net! Still our problem now.

Our conversion rate i believe at the moment is that we score a goal every 13 shots.

I had a little look at stats, although stats are deceiving as you can shoot from 30-40 yards and it be an attempt on goal.

H Pompey 2-0: 15/9 (attempts on goal/on target)
A Watford 2-2: 8/3

H Leicester 1-1: 5/1 (Leicester had 11 on target)

This was the cut off point of the 'good spell' before we played Leeds and it went a bit tits up, then we had a mini revival with three wins on the bounce. Those stat attempts are generally on par or above the opponents we have faced, with the exception of when we played Leicester.

again i apologise mate, must have been someone else. just getting fed up of all of the Boothroyd bashing from people :| (i used the arsenal reference cos of my mate too, he's always complaining that they pass too much and hardly ever take a chance)

The same Arsenal that have finished in the Champions League places however many years in a row and have done that without breaking the bank? I'm not going to go AB bashing but look at all the teams towards the top of each league - they all play possession football. That must say something?

Which games? The best performance I remember seeing under Boothroyd was when we dominated and ended up losing, which was just after or before a game we were terrible and ended up winning (karma!)

Even when on form we were picking up points but were never a particularly impressive team, just hard to beat. Obviously that didn't last, and without that we were really found wanting. Unfortunately Boothroyd's spell went almost exactly as Colchester and Watford fans told us it would.

That would be when we lost to Preston but beat Doncaster!

i've read a lot of your posts kg - i followed the telegraph quite a bit!

i agree that a lot of the top teams do, but they also have a lot of better players than us. if you look in the top 6 theres quite a large difference. (our current squad, not inclusive of injuries).

i'm not saying that 1 man will always make a difference, but 4 first team regulars do. it shows in any team. and under our bad spell with Boothroyd we always had at least 4 first team players out.

i'm not saying Thorn has done a bad job, but he hasn't been spectacular either. all of the players that were brought in by Boothroyd, i think a majority have been good, juke and king being the main 2.

wow! thanks for that mate! interesting to see, not much difference between the 2 managers, but at the moment it looks as though Thorn is doing a better job shot wise.

I wonder, what the key players are in all of those games, for example, with king out or juke out, or without key defenders (ie second half of the season )
