The idea that just because we are in the premier league we shouldnt expect more (1 Viewer)

Never really got the 'just enjoy it' thing. What is supposed to be enjoyable, seeing us lose every week? Everything about the matchday experience has gone backwards, the price of everything has gone up, the football we're playing is not just seeing us lose its boring as fuck.

People need to stop making excuses for them every game. If its not a 'free hit' its 'they're better than the position they're in'. The whole atmosphere around the club is be grateful to be here like we're on some sort of make-a-wish day out.

How many games are we going to write off? If we lose to Sunderland on Saturday will it be 'position in the table is false' again?

I would enjoy it more if we put a performance in. Its one thing to come away from games having lost but battled, we're just rolling over at the moment.

Hull and Fulham were both winnable games both on paper and based on the performance they put in on the day. We've lost both with a whimper.

When we went up I completely expected a relegation battle, and can accept going down, but what is the point of waiting 25 years if we're not going to give it a go. We've spent more money than we've ever spent and half of them don't even make the squad let alone get on the pitch.
Absolutely bang on and exactly where I am.

Man City away was a fantastic away day despite losing because we took it to them, looked like a confident and coherent unit and were genuinely unlucky not to get anything. Saturday was miserable because we didn't carve out a single decent chance at home, looked like rabbits in headlights and went down without any kind of fight. It summed the whole thing up when Fulham didn't even bother with shithousery once they were 1-0 up because they knew we were no threat.

I'm not just grateful to be here or enjoying the ride or any of that stuff, we've earned this chance and I want to see evidence that there's a coherent plan at the heart of it to keep us here rather than insipid performances featuring players in the XI who weren't even good enough when they were playing last year

Most people are questioning the use of his signings and the style of play , not many are asking for change at all
It's still very early in season. Got to give lampard time to adapt too. We are a win away from being back on track ppg so it's all very close at the minute.

Something like the decision whether to drop Grimes; I think it might be worth considering, but it’s a big decision to make given he’s the captain and has been ever present for 2 years now. I can see why he would wait to pull the trigger on that one.

I think he deserves a bit of patience and trust, especially after last season (and let’s not forget those who were similarly catastrophising before he turned around our slump last season).

Just bollocks - you clearly never watched us in the early 80's and 90'swhen we had to just scrape out games with dire performances but a draw or a scrappy 1 - nil

So because we were shit in the 80’s and 90’s we should shut up about looking convincingly off the level. Got it.

Things that happened 30-40 years ago are definitely very relevant to today as well.

We wouldn’t have scored if we were still playing Fulham right now and the window looks more and more disappointing every week because we were shit years ago?

Hes probably alluding to things we should have done better 30-40 years ago

If he keeps the same team and system I think a few tweaks would help us:
Grimes, turn and face forward immediately when recieving the ball under no pressure.
JDS, swing a cross in sometimes with your left foot instead of cutting it back.
EMC, take your man to the line
MVE, practice crossing
Long throw, don't use it when its raining and you cant get purchase on the ball
Yirenki move up the pitch as soon as we regain possesion
Cut backs, have someone running on to balls cut back to the penalty spot.
DMs, stop sitting on the edge of our own box
Block the cross at source and close people down quicker.
Grimes, stop coming back and recieving the ball off defence if all you are going to do is pass it back to them.
Take some shots from outside the box.
BTA, work on your first touch
Simms, make yourself undroppable
Bobby, get better soon!

Do all that and we'll have the title in the bag by easter.

Agree with a fair bit of this which can be summarised into being braver and more aggressive at home. That’s what disappointed me on Saturday. It was two teams cancelling each other out but would’ve liked more from our attacking players and Yirenkyi to take the handbrake off*. Rudi was the only one really making anything happen (he’s also consistently top of running stats). Cherif looks good but is feeding off scraps

*might regret saying that as he’s a red card waiting to happen but he’s an all action midfielder so I want to see him playing that way

I was being sarcastic, although didn’t come across particularly well. I agree with you wholeheartedly, people keep bringing up how things were in the 80s and 90s as if it wasn’t bloody ages ago and means fuck all in relation to now.

Ipswich and Hull seem to be doing ok. Both teams finished below us last season and had less time to prepare and sign players. Our recruitment has been poor and underwhelming

Have Ipswich or Hull played Arsenal, Man City or Brighton?

Let's see how they get on after playing those teams.

Fall victim to that all the time. Hard to detect by words written down 🙌🏻

Yes but we had a chance to climb out and be well beyond the ppg. Thats dissapointing.

I think we will pick up points when not expected..its almost like shackles are off.

When it's tight games vs relegation rivals Hull/Fulham we seem to be very passive.

I generally find football is not really very enjoyable unless you are 4-0 up with 10 mins to go. Until then it's mostly a lot of stress!

Some people on here seem to think FL should play certain players just because big money has been paid.Frank is picking a team he thinks will do the best job. After all he sees them day in day out unlike us who see them 90 minutes.Others on here suggest Hull are giving it a better go than us.The only difference between them and us was our meeting.A game we beat them in every stat. except the obvious one. I didn't think we deserved to lose it .If we nicked the goal instead of them .We'd be on 9 points 2 points above Hull level on points with 13th in the table.Football sometimes you don't get what you deserve.Still 30 games to go though.
Enjoy the ride.

They are 4 points ahead of us after the same games

I personally don’t see the relevance 🤷‍♂️

the relevance is people talking about “giving it a go” I suspect most would moan if we got a nil nil on Saturday whereas that and the same against hull would be good enough if it’s survival regardless of style. If anything it’s worse now as the gap is even bigger.

Tbf i said after 30 mins it was clear it was going to be drab and i'd take the 0-0 as all points are important, there was a point in the game where we should have accepted that vs Hull too. Small moments of inexperience are costing us valuable points, Sakamoto should have stopped the Hull attack, Dasilva should have helped with Bobb rather than leave him isolated vs Rudoni. If we're going to be involved in these drab games against the other bottom feeders, we need to be a bit smarter.

Yes that's a good summary, I mentioned on another post I think Yreknki would have more impact in a more CM role than at DM, he has the dynamism and has shown intelligent one-touches to progress an attack at times.
Agree on Cherif, definitely has potential but the only service he had last game was long balls from Rushworth. Never mind other teams bypassing our midfield, we seem to be doing that ourselves most the time aswell.

im just hoping that we get our losses out of the way early in the season, like we always do every season it seems, and then come good.
got to remember that many other sides are not clicking well, (spurs, man utd, everton, sunderland) we've added alot into the squad, and its going to take a bit more time.

im firmly a believer in this theory, and i just hope that im proved right.

It is disappointing for sure. We need to attack more at home

Can we put the “we didn’t give it a go” crud to bed. We played with two wingers and a CF along with and advanced 10. It’s bordering on too much forward ambition if anything. I can’t believe people are commenting with stuff like “if we don’t do something different we will go down”. Yes, yes we will. Do you seriously think we are not trying to win?

Assante is a winger!

what are you bumbling on about. Our best performance probably was Forest away as we totally contained them. Rudoni and BtA constantly rotated their positions and BTA was instrumental in managing to make the win happen

What a load of nonsense. People weren't happy because we allowed Fulham to run all over the pitch unopposed. It took until the 85th minute to have a press to put them under any sort of pressure. And it nearly paid off. It was a complete opposite to the Newcastle game where we got close to them and put them under pressure from the off

The stats don't lie. We was out ran. Out sprinted.

Yes. They are a high quality established side. We didn’t just let them run around unopposed. They just have very good technical players. I’m at a loss as to why so many fans equate our promotion with us closing the gap on established premier league teams.

Fulham may be established but they hadn't won away since February. The pressure was all on their Manager. They were below us in the table having won less games than us.
The thing that disappointed the majority of people, obviously not you, is why our tactics were different to the Newcastle game.

Well we finished well clear of Ipswich and Hull and they seem to be doing okay.

The mentality of some of our fans is the same as the players at times.

We need some warrior mindset if we are going to grind out results and stay up. Not a passiveness and almost a willingness to accept if we get relegated then it's fine. It isn't acceptable. I don't understand anyone wanting to go back to the Championship just so we can win a few games either.

As has been covered, I can accept defeat if we fight for everything. I can't if we just shrug our shoulders. I don't know about the new signings that aren't playing, but we certainly have a few players on the pitch who look scared. They need to be out of the team. I hope we see numerous changes for the the next game.

What a load of nonsense. "Giving it a go" has nothing to do with the personnel you play, it's the way you play and the patterns or play. We play with two midfielders who like going backwards or sidewards, and fullbacks and wingers who'd prefer to play back rather than get a cross in. Lampard has gone for defensive wingers, those that work the hardest.

I agree with virtually all of your comments apart from the two midfielders who like going backwards or sideways. I believe that Yirenki's first instinct is to go forward but he is being held back by the way we are playing. It was obvious on Saturday that he had been told to rein it in and not get booked.

The point being made is that no one is rolling over and accepting anything. Quite the opposite - the players are very clearly giving everything they have. But a lot on here seem incapable of realising we are facing some excellent technical players. You can’t always just impose what you want to do on them.
