Dean Austin hits and misses?

Would argue the toss on a few of those (Rapha and Paterson for example) but mostly agree with that.
It's also very arbitrary, for example, Haji wright as our record signing, signed to score goals, and full the void left by big Vik, he has scored goals, so is that a Hit (better than expected) or Ok (as expected).

Not sure about that. £4.5m on Markelo, £4m on Wolfenden, £3m on Bassette all pretty big fees for zero impact tbh. At least Walker played for us and was top scorer for a season. And he cost less than £1m didn’t he? Or about that
Did we really pay £3m for Bassette

Lots of credit for turning around our away form blip goes to Onyeka (rightly so)

Possibly incentive based? Wouldn’t be too surprised. Thought he looked like he had something about him, but clearly a personality issue that Frank would not tolerate.

Think i read in £s it was £2.1 million, with add ons. We'll still get most of it back in todays market probably.

It's all subjective and down to opinion; someone's fail is someone else's hit.

With signings from Hamer, Gyokeres to Bobby Thomas and Tats I genuinely would find it remarkable (though not surprising) if anyone could overly criticise Dean Austin. He has identified some incredible players for us, players who have created lifetime memories.

It's oh so easy to criticise.

Hamer and Gyokeres were Badlan tbf, but our recruitment by and large is very good. It’s the primary reason we’ve achieved what we have.

Fair enough, but I still think overall we have very little to complain about when it comes to recruitment. Even the biggest teams in the world won't get all their recruitment 100% right.

One more to catch Big Cyrille and Matty G in the all time list. He's scored almost at the rate of Dion Dublin and Ian Wallace and scored the most goals in the Championship bar none during the time he's been here, despite a lengthy injury break, missing preseasons, playing while recovering to regain fitness etc etc. Absolutely a run away success by any measure.

Definitely a hit. He's done exactly what we wanted him to do.

I'd also argue that where we were, we would have really struggled to find a better player to play in Gyökeres' place.

All true but also our record signing so could be argued you’d expect him to be the best we’ve ever had?

Why?
Lots of credit for turning around our away form blip goes to Onyeka (rightly so), but Lati playing every week happened about the same time and that turn around was crucial.
Winner's mentality innit.

Some people have very unrealistic expectations

Im a big Haji fan and think he’s a hit. Just saying stu’s point isn’t crazy. We spent a lot on him for the level he was expected to score lots and that’s what he’s done.

Most expensive championship strikers of all time, how many of them were better signings than Haji? We had to get the Gyokeres replacement right and we did. He’s been a massive success.

My point is spending money doesn’t guarantee anything

OK well that’s a silly point. You’re implying transfer fees mean nothing about player ability and are essentially random and that’s clearly not true.

Eh? I’m saying that just because he cost £9m doesn’t mean he was a guaranteed success, as shown in the list above.

If he has another good summer/year with us, any risk of us losing him to a top tier prem club?

That some players don’t meet expectations doesn’t mean expectations don’t exist. Many of the players on that list did score lots of goals at this level.

On the Not the top 20 podcast on us they pointed out how we give our players time to settle and don’t give up on them after a bad spell. Pretty much all of the current squad have had spells where some of the fanbase would’ve been happy to see the back of them, worked out alright in the end.
I think this time last year people were saying Lampard would get rid of Wilson, Simms, Dasilva, Latibeaudier, Allen, Eccles and Bidwell last summer. Shows how much they knew.

God I hope not, that ship has long sailed. Want a midfielder that can actually move
Won't be Nunez that's for sure . Bearing in mind they seem to have bonkers owners currently and only one year left of his deal, you just don't know,it depends how he's used if it was here, but realistically he PO in champ.

Inflation, plus circumstance of signing.

We were never going to luck out on finding someone of Vik's quality for a song again.

Other than him, at Championship level, he is the best we've ever had.

He was a fantastic player for us and if he comes i will of course support him and keep my fingers crossed that he can get his fat arse into shape. I am surprised how many people seem to ignore what the fans who watch him are saying though almost out of some sort of weird loyalty to the bloke. These aren't butt hurt fans who are lashing out because he's gone, these are fans watching a player who is still there, who they previously loved. In what is now a poor Blunts team, the vast vast majority of comments from their fans are things like he's overweight, he's lazy, he plays for himself etc... I don't think he'd really be talked about if he wasn't an ex player. I think he'd probably be best served going to one of the bigger clubs in the Dutch league, he'll probably do quite well there, overweight or not.

Unless we're changing our transfer strategy to sign the biggest arse wipes in football, i don't think we'll touch Nunez. We'll leave that strategy to the tractor humpers.

Some harsh ok's going on there. Amongst others
I would upgrade Lati & Kitch to hits undoubtedly.
Crikey we paid abt half a mill for Lati & he has been so good since getting into the team latter part of this season.

To be left on the sidelines for a fair chunk of the season and slot in like he did was frankly quite exilerating., knows how to close out a season, whether that's covering an injury or somebody who's wandering is going to revealed by this summer.
