This from Strachan at the age of 38 is something else. Give me a player who can travel with the ball like that next season please Doug.

I remember going on a trip to Ryton and although he had retired from playing at that point he still joined in a game at training. Despite us at the time having probably the best squad we've ever had he was even then clearly a level above.

It is not my era so cannot comment, but has time and hindsight been kind to Strachan's stint as manager?

From someone looking back who did not live through it, it seems to me that Mr Richardson was the one holding the club back and Strachan did decent enough to keep our heads above water for as long as he did

Not trying to rewrite history I am just curious

Stubborn. Played his favourites. Relegated us.

Strachan was stubborn. But fundamentally you always knew how much he cared. He really wanted to do well with us, and had us playing some great stuff at times.

Undone by the selling of Keane right at the start of the season due to Richardson and that pompous arse Robinson

I would say the selling of MacAllister was more significant. Wrong side of 30 granted but was top scorer the previous season and went on to win 4 trophies with Liverpool that year as well as club player of the year.

Strachan had a good group, granted often selling better players, but still a good group. He was very stubborn, which was his downfall.

Personally should have got more out of that group, especially after the 97/98 season.
Took a while to get going but in the second half of the season our record was superb.

11 wins, 10 draws, and 2 draws in our last 23 matches incl the FAC. The best we've ever been IMO.

As a motivator and a coach absolutely brilliant, as a player for us brilliant

give him money to spend he buys dud after dud
His record of signings was hit and miss, some pretty good ones overall imo:

Huckerby (albeit I think it was in train when Atkinson was still here)
Breen
Nilsson
Boateng
Froggatt
Haji
Chippo
Palmer
Hedman
Keane
Hartson
Aloisia
Carsley
Safri

Let's be honest looking long term that Bellamy would have been a good signing, just signed a bit too early.
