Next Season's Team (45 Viewers)

Rushworth has to be first signing besides FTT who I believe is an obligation to buy anyway. Hope we can sell our strikers to the highest bidder from those going down to the Championship or top tier Championship teams. I’m sure there’d be interest in them. Should help raise funds for the summer.

There's a strong rumour Brighton now want to keep him following the announcement their keeper is leaving.

I don't pretend to be ITK but I've been told that and believe my source, though if the player wants to come to us, (no idea what his preference would be), do they keep a player who wants to be elsewhere?

Lampard has worked wonders getting us where we are with the 2 strikers we have . None of them should be anywhere near our squad next season.
rubbish

At worst Wright will be a 2nd choice.

He'll be a useful player to have given he can play wide or central, and playing on the break more will suit him

I think anyone who expects us to replace 50% of the starting lineup is going to be disappointed this summer. Of the current squad, I’d expect the following to start next season playing regularly:

JDS
MVE
Thomas
Grimes
Onyeka
Rudoni
Sakamoto
Mason-Clarke

I’d also expect these to be playing regularly/on the bench:

Dovin
Kitching
Latibeaudiere
Torp
Eccles
Simms
KKH

I think we will ship out:
Wright
BTA
Woolfenden
Allen
Wilson
Bidwell
Brau

And obviously we won’t be going in for Esse or Yang

Agree with these groupings as a starting point. Classed as probable/possible first teamers, squad players, likely ship out though. Wrights the real unknown on the list and whether management see him as being main striker (if not he won’t be happy being predominantly bench/squad player)

A lot will depend on certain players being happy with squad roles and what offers come in though. It’s also the reason why someone like Eccles could still be a useful squad player in the Prem. come off the bench, do a job, no moaning. Others less so

If I had to predict our starting lineup for the opening day it would probably be

GK
MVE Thomas CB LB
Grimes Onyeka
RW Rudi EMC
ST

Now I also think we'll recruit in CM and wouldn't be surprised to see them replace Grimes, although given he is captain he may get a chance to prove himself.

There'll be other signings too but they'll have to force their way in to the team.

No way JDS plays regularly

Need 7/8 starters really plus a couple of options especially across the front 4 where at AM and out wide we have very little depth.

New GK, two CBs, LB, couple of CMs, couple of wingers an AM and a ST.

Yesterday I'd have taken EMC off for Simms and moved Wright to the left for 10-15 mins.

Will continue to say it til im blue in the face Wright can sometimes be ineffective against certain CBs/set ups but stick him against a FB and he’ll bully them and tear them to shreds. Always worth a go. Lampard just doesn’t fancy him down the left though

It depends on what King and Lampard are happy with. If we stay with the core of the side as suggested by some we're going to be doing a wolves / Burnley next season.

The one great cross from the left yesterday was from wright when he drifted out wide.

Our three strikers have scored 38 goals this season in the Championship, last summer supporters wanted them off loaded, good job they don't run the Club. Now they are at it again, without those three we would not be promoted they may or may not be good enough for the premiership but some respect would not go amiss.

My worry with the “just buy three players” tactic is it puts a lot of pressure on the recruitment team to absolutely nail those three.

Wright will only go if he wants a move

We have to recruit a new LB, so I'd put JDS in the bench category. And as much as Lati has been useful this season surely no one thinks he can cut it in the prem? I'd try and offload Simms too, should be able to get an ok fee. Rest I'd probably agree with.

We have several who can play premier league football

Remember we are at the tail end of a long gruelling championship season

The main benefit for the players is that the prem is only 38 games and they will be protected more by the refs
I think this is a good point, imo the quality of football in the championship noticeably drops in the last month of the season as fatigue hits, and either pressure increases or teams have nothing to play for.

I don't think so personally. I think he's our biggest opportunity to make a decent profit, and of our standout players, honestly the one that will struggle with most with stepping up. I think if we get a £20m+ offer he will go.

You think we’ll get clubs offering £20m+ but also that he can’t step up? How does that work?

Don't think anyone is paying over £20m, 15-20 maybe. But at that price I'd keep him.

Made this point the other day. Yes, they're going to be up against things they haven't encountered in the championship. But there's other aspects of the championship they won't have to deal with.

Derby would have been down to at least 10 men last Friday just for fouls committed on Josh Eccles alone.

You think we’ll get clubs offering £20m+ but also that he can’t step up? How does that work?

That a club getting relegated will happily drop £20m on a striker proven in the champ?

That a lower prem club will take the punt based on scoring 44 goals in 107 games in the champ?

That a top flight European team see him as an ideal replacement for their crown jewel who is going to the Prem?

Besides, how we rate and value the player has fuck all to do with how other clubs rate and value the player.

Besides, I said *IF* we get that sort of offer we'll accept.

The only players for the current squad that might make the step up are:

MVE
Thomas
Grimes
Onyeka
Rudoni
Sakamoto
Mason Clarke (Maybe)
Wright (Maybe)

I think our only chance of survival is to try and bully our way to points, and try and hit teams on the break with pace.

We don’t have either of those attributes in the current squad. Only MVE has Premier League pace.

For me, our priorities need to be a goalkeeper (ideally Rushworth) and two big bruisers at CB and CF (Fadz + Duncan Ferguson types). Then, budget permitting, two rapid wingers.

I agree with the last part , supporters judge players far too emotionally (usually negatively )

In recent years some of our best goalscorers have been given loads of shit by fans

Wright
Godden
Mcnulty

We are a lower prem club and we’ll be buying in the same market we’re selling in. I think he’s most likely to step up purely because teams of our level may be interested but a PL striker will cost us £20m, so there’s no benefit to selling him and signing someone else who doesn’t know the team.

I don't disagree with you. I just said if we get an offer over £20m we accept it 🤷‍♂️

Haji ain't a spring chicken either - we'll want an opportunity to reinvest in some young blood.

Grimes and Onyeka CM partnership wont work in the Prem. Grimes doesn’t have the physicality and pace to be a regular starter unfortunately. If he did he would have been snapped up by a PL club a while back.

Out of the lot Tatsu is the one who I reckon will really shine with his ability and will be better protected.

I reckon with Haji he’ll sign a new contract in the summer and this is his only opportunity now for prem football. This time next year he’ll be 29 so it’s not an attractive investment for a PL club. If we get relegated he’ll be off for a final pay day abroad.

Wolves starting line up in the their last prem game. (comfortably bottom of the league)
Sa, Tchatchoua, Mosquera, S Bueno, Krejci, H Bueno, Andre, J Gomes, A Gomes, Bellegarde, Armstrong.

How many of our current squad get in over that team?
I'd say possibly 3. That's the harsh reality we are dealing with.

Wright yesterday, offered more on the wing …. ( 1 cross , but going past 2 players ) than standing still for 60 minutes & getting caught off side , stupidly twice .
After another below par performance , we can’t get sentimental, if we want to survive with the big boys .
A host of players to leave , as they just aren’t premiership.
