Haven't seen many accounting for that. Think most are saying 8-10
No many aren't actually saying that tbf but when they talk about everyone they'd bin off i think they might not realise they are basically saying that without saying it. 8-10 sounds about right to me. Going to be a fun summer.

Kitching really does have an odd fan base that puts him on an undeserved pedestal. It's quite strange.

I don't see anyone on here putting him on a pedestal. No one's screaming for anyone to be dropped to make space for him. He's played a lot of games for us and a lot of them have been good games. He might iron out the kinks in his game, he might not, but it's not a hot take to think he's got something about him and to appreciate his contribution up to now.

I dont think many would realistically say they are going to bin off half the squad.

I think outside those you expect to start, the more shocking departures would be Torp/Eccles/JDS/KKH/Simms/BTA

I dont think all those would go, but certainly a few

Well he signed a contract extension and is vice captain
Thomas stays and probably starts. I did think Kitching would be the other one staying but i'm 50/50 now, it could be Lati. I think 2 go with Woolf 100% being one of them, and 2 come in.

Think it’s going to depend largely on who we get bids for in the summer. We definitely need at least one ideally two CBs in. Same in midfield with Allen going there’s a gap but ideally would probably upgrade our AM options and get someone PL quality in at CM. Could be we get a bid for Grimes even so that’s who we let go, takes two to transfer after all. Striker as well I could see either Simms or BTA going to make way for an upgrade b

Yeh its all guess work with players like that, if i was to guess on the above, just my opinion...
1 of Torp/Eccles go, but not both.
JDS stays as backup LB.
KKH stays as backup RB (as i think MvE starts in the Prem) unless he forces a move to get playing time.
Simms will go imo.
BTA not sure, has the benefit of being able to cover a few positions around the front, 50/50 on that one.

No chance Grimes is allowed to leave this summer

I would think Grimes stays but i don't think he's a nailed on starter at all like some do. I actually wouldn't be surprised to see us go in for 1 of the 2 Championship midfielders i've seen Lampard openly flirting with at the end of a game (Hackney or Louza.) Watch out for that on the final day, reckon Louza might have his hand down Franks trousers at full time.

Point is it will depend who we get bids for. If someone offers us a profit on Grimes and we have a PL quality CM lined up we could sell. Its not FIFA you can’t just Quick Sell players you don’t like any more.

Isn't Kitching on £17000 a week and Woolf £25000 a week? Not sure of the length of contracts but its easier said than done to move them on if surplus to requirements. There won't be too many interested clubs that will pay a fee and those kind of wages.

I guess we'd have to look at loaning one or two out instead.

Half our squad is rumoured to be on £20k+ but we have the fifth lowest wage bill or something. The other half must be paying us to play!

Really? I'd refer you to the several dedicated threads over the years his weird fanbase have started on him trying to claim he's the second coming of Maldini.

Kitching is what I'd describe as your typical Championship defender from a solely defensive standpoint - sometimes good, sometimes average, sometimes awful.

What sets him apart is that he's decent with the ball at his feet and he has a good range of passing which makes him a useful addition.

However his inconsistency as a defender seriously lets him down - hence why he was dropped for much of this season, which is why personally I think he'd be a car crash in the PL when he'd come up against faster, more intelligent and stronger opponents.

It feels like Lampard is a big believer and motivator in team unity, so it kinda feels to me that he might want fewer changes than we would perhaps think. Personally I think we need almost a new squad but I'm not an ex England international with a Pro Licence, so my opinion is worthless.

Grimes starts the season but I think PL teams will target him and it will be really hard for him. Great player, clever and effective, but he’s not big and powerful. He’s going to have to use all his experience, would love to see him step up.

He really hasn’t been dropped for much of this season. I believe he has played in 37 games…
I largely agree with you. I’m not a huge fan and expect him to be moved on but he really is a decent championship CB, it’s just we’ve out grown him and need much better for next year. The lad still has a decent future with a good champ side, he is not the donkey some are making him out to be.

Kitching and Thomas were the starting partnership in virtually every game pre -xmas , hardly been dropped for much of the season .

And as for your claim there's a weird obsession about him there's also the weird obsession that we overpaid for him and that he's a bad egg in the dressing room and has a bad disciplinary record .

Neither of the takes on Kitching are true .

He is a decent centre back who I should imagine will be retained as part of the squad next season

No one has said he's a donkey? He's got away with not being criticised despite putting in pretty abject performances for a good chunk of the season and as others would be he should rightly be called out rather than be bizarrely and undeservedly lauded by a certain handful of posters.

Like I said he's fine for this level, and has shown he can be more than decent at times but his inconsistency is a pretty glaring issue of his. Defensively he lacks concentration, is quite flat footed, and often fails to track runners.

Kitching on the whole was decent up until the West Brom (h) game (where he was culpable for both goals) then his performances fell off a cliff and he didn't really recover. As I've said repeatedly consistency over a period of games is something he's always struggled with IMO.

In reality he probably should've been dropped sooner that when he was but the options were Lati and Wolfenden and neither really would've inspired much confidence at the time.

Look at it logically. We simply can’t afford to rebuild the squad in one window. Kitching is obviously, if not the best, our second best CH. I don’t think anyone could seriously rate Woolf or Lati above him. So it’s extremely likely that he stays. No one is saying he’s prime Maldini but he’s in a pool of others who aren’t either.

I can see him still being club captain next year but maybe not first choice starter / we shall see

Lampard rates Lati above him.

Thats why Lati has been starting and Kitching benched when Thomas available.

I think you'd struggle to find one thread where anyone's said anything close to that. Folks reactions to him are basically no different to any other player. When he's playing well, people talk about it. When he's struggling for form, that calms down. Like I said, I don't see anyone clamouring for him to be straight back in the XI ahead of a fit Latibeaudiere atm.

I was being facitious.

There have been several threads dedicated over the years though containing posts which suggest he should be playing at a higher level which is frankly laughable.

because he has a year left on his contract so if he doesn't end up as their keeper next season and signs a new deal they run the risk of him leaving for free
He can't leave next summer on a free unless Brighton wants him to, as they, the club, have the option to trigger an extra year if they wish.

Why is Lati starting at the moment then when both Kitching and Thomas are fit?
Where was Lati when Thomas and Kitching started. Who has started more games? Who was made captain? Does Lampard rate Simms higher than Wright if he happens to start? Does he rate Esse higher than Mason-Clarke. It’s a nonsense argument.

Its not nonsense at all from Oxford to Stoke Kitching was on the bench and Lati starting.

Its clear that Lampard favours Lati over him at the moment.
