Torp has come on hugely, Lampard really seems to be divulging some goalscoring midfielder secrets in training. If Eccles starts scoring I’ll know he’s a miracle worker.

Would still like to see more from Torp though, I think he’s got it in him to dictate play more and impose himself on games.
Blokes second top scorer in the league and has the highest average rating in the league and you want to see more ?!

Torp is a really good technician and has improved his overall fitness that combination makes him a real threat in this league. Would that translate higher im not sure, but he would be one id be looking to sit down and extend.

Definitely someone id keep around and now worth 7 to 10 mill on current form.

Honestly, if somebody had said to me at the start of the season we could get 10 goals out of him this season I'd of snapped their hand off! 10 goals for Torp would be a great effort! Now, as it stands, I'll be dissapointed if he doesnt finish the season with 15! He really is capable of that aswell I think!

To think, all the seasons we've all wanted a "20 goal stiker", imagine with him and Rudi, we could potentially have a pair 15 goal midfielders! Fantastic place to be in really! With BTA matching him too, could we have 3 midfielders (although 1 is a striker playing in midfield) finish on 15 for the season? Crazy time to be alive!

What’s that 65-70 goals from 4 of the starting XI alone? And not even a stretch on current form. Madness.

We're currently well outscoring the top 3 championship goal tallies of all time at the same stage of their respective seasons. Ill revist the thread after Wrexham, but were looking good for it so far.

I think this is one of the cases where Robins weren't entirely sure what kind of player he was. I listened to an interview with Lampard, where he asked Torp where he played, and he was saying he's like a number 8/10 - and Lampard pretty much told him he wasn't, and that he'd be a no 6.

Different managers see different attributes, and in the case of Torp, its been Lampard's values that have seen Torp's incredible development.
Bit like his uncle who said that Bale wasn’t a full back

I recall it slightly different to that. My interpretation of it was that Lampard said players told him they were a fixed position eg an 8 for Torp and he said that he wanted them to be more fluid and not pigeon holed, so that he was a 6, an 8 and a 10.

Genuinely feel he is the only player to have regressed this season, his form up until November was incredible, but that seems to be more of an outlier now.

Why do we think that is??

Tough one, as said, was one of the best in league until November.

Combo, natural drop off, think flu hit him hard, the wobble collectively and then onyeka - which we needed.

frustrating player in many ways, so good technically but never grabs a game. Suspect he may be one that moves on in summer.

note - impossible for him
Monday, not played, horrible game, playing 10 role - always going to have tough game.

Think he just needs a run of games again, that’s what he benefitted from at the start of the season til November. Similar to Simms, take him out team (he’s had injuries in fairness!) and then bring him back for the odd start and 5-10 mins here and there and he struggles to get going again.

Clearly not himself, whether that's an underlying injury, post-illness issue - who knows. My concern is that he looks like he would struggle to step up to the PL due to lack of pace. At his best he is a very good technical player, but at the moment (albeit he hasn't had many minutes recently) I'd be looking at replacing next season. Sorry Victor!

Another one assuming there is something underlying medically - as soon as he got struck down with the flu his form dropped off a cliff and he’s never recovered. Added to which he now has more competition for a place and I think he’s one I’d look to move on in the summer.

I think across the midfield I’d keep Eccles Grimes Rudoni Onyeka and add another two at CM and AM which doesn’t leave much room for him really. Harsh but that’s life after promotion.

I've long had concerns about his physicality and fitness.
Thought he was making progress but he's not looked up to it for a while now. Appreciate lack of minutes of late won't have helped.

I agree, the one most likely to move on.

I think that's what will happen, though I think from that group we might see Eccles leave.

Agree - won't Eccles count as one of the home grown players, or whatever the rule is in the PL, about having x number of players you have developed yourself in the squad?

Edit: just looked - have to have a minimum of 8, who were registered with a Football League club f(regardless of nationality) for 3 years before their 21st birthday.... so the likes of Grimes would count. Not sure which others would/wouldn't. Presumably Sakamoto and Haji wouldn't qualify, for example.

Personally don't see this any differently to Rudi's dip in form post injury.

On his day Torp is one of the best in the division IMHO.

But after an electric start to the season, he found himself bounced around the midfield during our terrible spell (because we didn't have other options) before effectively being replaced in the January window.

His confidence will be smashed to bits and he has been barely getting a look in.

That only returns with game time and the people around him backing him.

Have to keep Eccles, he can play more roles than Torp. I like Torp, but he's a luxury player. If he's at his best he'll create and score goals, but if he's not fully on it, he doesn't offer any defensive cover, physicality etc. No way Frank will play him in the 6 or 8 position in the premier league. Keep Eccles as cover for Grimes & Oneyka next season, and bring in another 6. Unless Isaac Moore may be looked at in the summer. Sell Allen and Torp and bring in a No.10 to push Rudoni.

Like Simms I think we might not replace absolutely everyone season one and can see him sticking about for his versatility and dressing room presence. Long term the midfield probably needs a total overhaul but next season I think a better option at AM to challenge Rudi and a partner for Onyeka with better physicality than Grimes would be the priorities. We need a lot of surgery to the squad and won’t have the cash to replace everyone in one go. With Allen out of contract I’d expect us to only replace one other.

Physicality is the most important thing in judging who can make the step up. It’s not something Torp has ever really shown and Grimes hasn’t got much of it either.

The Prem generally looks more about having prime athletes rather than technicians.

You’re probably right but I’m still hoping for maybe a winger who is fun to watch and it’s not all six foot six trampoline feet

I mean if we can turn his couple of million into a £5m sale and he's helped us get promoted its another successful signing.

I think we may see Allen and Torp replaced.

Hackney and Hojberg the dream.
