Permutations (40 Viewers)

Can someone post them here 🤣

I keep seeing comments about us possibly confirming promotion vs Sheff Weds. Some saying Blackburn/Portsmouth etc.

Some mentioning 8 more points to guarantee?

Anyone care to drop in the actual permutations?

There are almost infinite permutations as to when the inevitable happens but it’s fact that we currently need 8 to be mathematically sure of top 2.

Earliest is Saturday depending on other results and us winning both games

One game at a time.

If you discount a goal difference swing of 22 plus between Coventry and Middlesboro. I think promotion in theory could be confirmed on Friday night when Millwall play at West Brom.

Coventry beat Hull . 86 points

Middlesboro lose v Swansea(15 points behind with 5 to play) . 71 points

Millwall pick up less than 3 points in total v Norwich and West Brom(12 points or more behind with 4 to play). 72-74 points.

Unlikely but in theory possible. Lets not get carried away though and keep focussed on picking up points.

Thanks , so what is Balli001 on about with his Saturday theory
We need a maximum of 8 points to secure promotion even with Millwall, Middlesbrough and Ipswich winning games as well.

If they're all dropping points, we need fewer points to secure promotion.

8 points puts us on 91
Millwall can only reach 90
Middlesbrough 89
Ipswich 93

With Middlesbrough and Ipswich still having to play each other, one of them is guaranteed to drop points.

We win both our next 2 games and Middlesbrough and Millwall drop points today then we are up on saturday
Millwall could win today and drop points away at WBA on Friday as long as we win both and Middlesborough don't win today. Also if Ipswich only get 1 point out of their next 2🤪🤪

After today best case scenario we win we could go 14pts clear of 2nd.
If Boro end up 2nd by winning (12pts clear)
If Ipswich end up 2nd by winning (14pts clear)

Basically to win the league home to Sheff Weds we need all three to lose, but then it relies on Ipswich, Millwall, Boro losing today and next GW, I think Boro and Ipswich can draw both games for it to happen too

Millwall v Norwich. Could go either way.

Swansea v Middlesbrough. Not many goals.

Ipswich v Birmingham. The calm before the storm. Recently failed to beat whipping boys Stoke and Leicester.

Can see dropped points here. But just in case there's always next weekend 😂 Norwich v Ipswich should be a good battle.

A draw and defeat for Ipswich means they could only reach 88 points. A draw in either of the next two games for Millwall and Middleborough and 2 wins for us would not only secure promotion but would also make us Championship Champions with 4 games to go on 89 points.

There are only 4 games left after this coming weekend games, so in theory I think 2 more points would be enough for guaranteed 2nd providing enough results go our way, even accounting for games in hand.

We would be on 85 points.

If the other sides win a game each in the next 2 they could all still mathematically catch us up even if they lost the other game. We need to aim for 2 wins.

Only if it actually confirmed it, which is unlikely.
Let's see. Those below us have hit a sticky patch. It's possible to confirm the title at home to Sheffield Wednesday. We then play Blackburn before Portsmouth.

Ipswich are 14 points behind us with 8 games to go. If we win our next 2 games that's 20 points from 8 games. They've only won 1 in their last 4. If they didn't win either game it would be over before Blackburn.

Yes, I think you misread my post. To put it another way, after Saturday's games there are 4 left to play, (5 in Southampton's case).
To clinch 2nd we would need to be 13 points ahead of the chasing pack and16 ahead of Southampton.
We are currently 12 ahead of Boro, 11 ahead of Millwall, and 20 ahead of Southampton.
In that case only Ipswich could catch us. It would require some unexpected results but it's possible. That's why I said "in theory" responding to a post that stated "the earliest is Saturday depending on other results and us winning both games".

No one is gong to win all their games. If you give them all 2 pts per game then we prob need another 3 points for promotion.

As of today 8 points guarantees it, win the next 3 and it’s done
8 points guarantees it and that's assuming Millwall beat Norwich and WBA. One slip up and 89 points clinches it!

In short, the job is going to get done, it's a matter of when rather if.
