Markelo vs Esse (16 Viewers)

Don't think we sell Sakamoto, and don't think we prioritise a winger to play on the left.

Think it's a 'no thank you' for Esse and a new right-sided winger. I imagine Saka being a squad player / impact sub next year.
ignore him. I think he’s trolling now

Saka has a year left and is 29. I think we’ll want more than one left winger in the squad and I think King will want to cash in rather than let players run down their contract. Hence a winger each side with Markelo and EMC being the other two.

Agree to a point however there are positions more pressing. I don't see us going the Sunderland route and signing 11 new players tho

Do we believe we can get more than 6 or 7 mill for saka ?

Be hard to get a squad player with his talent for that money maybe we should keep him

This is all opinion , frank doug and dean might have far bigger plans than we think

Hence doesn't have huge sell-on value. Plus contracts can be extended.

He's a hugely important member of the squad; I don't see us moving him on for the sake of it.

If we hadn’t signed Markelo I might agree with you but I just don’t see where he fits in next season and think we’re unlikely to extend on PL wages.

Do we need three right wingers? I just don’t see it tbh. If we can get a couple of mil for him I think he’ll go in the summer same as Lats and BTA who are in similar positions.

Markelo seems able to play either side.

He's replaced EMC when coming on for us. Only Google told me he played on the right in Switzerland.

He’s left footed so as I said in my OP if we keep playing inverted wingers he’ll play on the right, I suppose if you’re coming on for twenty mins with games won like he has been it matters less. Maybe we keep him on the left and Saka as backup on the right. I just think we’ll need to improve the squad significantly next season and with EMCs fitness being what it is you want someone who fits the same profile. I suppose you’ve also got Haji who can do a stint out there and isn’t likely to be first choice ST too

He’s convinced ed Markelo is only a RW despite him mainly playing on the left which is clearly where Lampard wants him
Im caught im the middle with that tbh , what he is saying makes sense and is he just playing markelo left to get him and esse minutes .. il be honest i have no idea what franks plans are for markelo

On the other hand if he can play both wings then bonus for our squad ,keep saka and EMC starts left , buy new RW

Yes like you said previous, for what he offers I cannot see an offer someone will make that will be worthwhile taking.

I think we will sign a starting talisman of a RW

Yang being shite has made it hard to tell because he was the LW we signed but he can’t make the squad so we’ve had two left footers in Esse and Markelo on the bench instead.

The extra wingers the squad needed. Part of a great Jan, along with Onyeka. Esse would be worth a punt on his talent for a Markelo-ish price tag but I dont think Palace would sell for that so he'll go back. Markelo has looked exciting in his cameos, can see what we saw in him.

It's easy to say get rid of Sakamoto, but we're going to need players with his energy and defensive abilities capabilities as we're likely to have much less possession next season. We definitely need another winger, but if Markelo is going to be pushing and be a back up option, then we really need another right footed winger as we only have EMC.

Markelo, did you not watch him play against Preston then.

Yeah he had a nice cameo and did some good crosses hence me saying he’s got a good cross. But I’m old enough to have seen Dacosta have a nice cameo a make some good crosses so won’t go overboard just on that. (Cue the idiot crew trying to make out I’m comparing Dacosta and Markelo)

Some good crosses, isn't that what wingers are supposed to do.

If we’re setting up with inverted wingers again and I don’t see why we wouldn’t think we sign two and Sakamoto is sold as he only has a year left in that scenario.

Sakamoto had been singled out frequently by Lampard for the way he performs. He’s got huge energy levels. He’s one of the few who could cope with the rigours of the league.

Both are good, promising young players, but different. To me Markelo looks like a natural winger and Esse more like a 10. Markelo is looking like a good cover option for EMC (and got himself ahead of the lad from Tottenham).

I don't mind Esse but would be amazed if both Yang and him did not just get sent back at end of loan spell.

I suspect Esse's wages pretty high as well as with premier league Palace - expect Frank will think he can get better with the wages.

Can't see Saka going at all. We have Esse to replace at RW so makes sense for Saka to be back up to whoever comes in. We'll want him if we end up back in the Championship.

Markelo will probably be in the "Kai Andrews" role next season. Limited minutes while getting acclimatised to the level in training, with a loan out in January. Then he'll be adjudged as to whether he can make an impact in the following season (likely back in the Championship)

I think Sakamoto will stay whatever happens. Frank clearly rates him, he works so hard and can beat his man. He's the sort of player managers like to have around, even if he isn't in the first team. I doubt we'll keep Esse or Yang, neither has done enough to stay, should we go up. As for Markelo, we haven't really seen enough to make a judgement yet, he loks exciting so far but we need to see him play a few games I think (I actually agree with the Dacosta point). EMC will be a started next season whatever happens, looks ready for the ste up.

He’s four years older than Kai Andrews. Why do people keep thinking he’s a teenager?

Markelo has only had a few cameo appearances mainly when the game is already won, too early to say either way if he can play a part next year.

Both are a little lightweight at times and get pushed off the ball easily, Esse especially.

We need to prioritise our player though for minutes and not develop someone else's.

100% agree with this. We can just about get away with it now, but is not a player I would want when the going gets tough. Also has slightly improved going back under Lampard, but still behind the other wingers in that area.
Thats why he barely gets any gane time in premier league. Still young and still raw. he will go on another championship loan next season for developement.
