I'd be amazed if we signed even one loan player in the Prem tbh.

That’s quite rare outside the top six isn’t it?

Seems to have gone off on a bit of a tangent on the Onyeka front, but to continue on a tangent, I am wondering how disadvantaged we will be for not having a category A academy?

So it's a 25 man squad in the Premier, but then no limit on players 21 and under. They are exempt. I am thinking so many (if not all) Premier clubs will have better academies won't they.

We haven't got anyone really looking like they can step up right now, even at Championship level.

So, my question is, is it going to hurt us? Or can we just buy in 1 or 2 quality under 21 year olds, to help strengthen the squad past 25?

Just wondering how we are going to go about the shortfall

No idea tbh, i don't see us doing it unless it’s a loan to buy though.

Just looking and I think other than Man City Man Utd Liverpool Chelsea and Brighton everyone has at least one. All dodgy financial stuff at that level I’m hoping playing for Lampard means we can pick up some filthy player we couldn’t afford otherwise.

I feel like a lot of Prem loans are to kick the financial can down the road a year. I can't see us wanting to give someone elses' asset a stage in the Prem unless we benefit, so we could well do that, a loan with an obligation or option if we were to stay up for example.

Agreed. Onyeka will start, MvE, Rudi, EMC and maybe Thomas if we don’t sign better. Think we don’t get Rushworth, sign new GK/CB/CM/LB/RW/ST to start.

Not sure if we go with Eccles at AM again, so can see us going to an AM and a LW as well as we’ll have no cover and they’re high energy positions. Then it’s whether the likes of Woolfenden, Kitching, Torp, Simms, BTA want to stick about or we get offers. I can see a couple going and us replacing them in the squad.

Figures from my ass:
GK: 15-20m
ST: 15-20m
CB: 10m
CM: 10m
RW: 10m
LB: 10m
AM: 5m
CB: 5m
ST: 5m
LW: 5m

Some will be free or loan some will be more but that’s £100m ish on 10 players across the squad.

Gives you:

GK/Dovin/Wilson
MvE/KKH
Thomas/CB
CB/Kitching
LB/Dasilva
Onyeka/Torp
CM/Grimes
Rudi/AM/Eccles
RW/Markelo
EMC/LW
ST/Wright/ST

Sell: Lats, Woolf, Brau, Bidwell, Sakamoto, Simms, BTA
I’m think we’ll spend half of that, we’ll sign a couple frees and definitely make 2/3 loans

I have a feeling Sakamoto might thrive not getting punted into the air weekly, yes he has one move but it's a hell of a move, definitely an option off the bench for me.

Also think Grimes might do better than people imagine, he is calm on the ball, will have to deal with physical athletes but we've seen smaller CM players do ok in recent years

You'd like to think that Sakamoto would have more protection with VAR.

£100 million looks about right and basically leaves the parachute money untouched. As for what it can get you in this transfer market however, no idea.

Whatever Doug King decides to do regarding transfers, what we don't want is signing players from teams that have been relegated.

That's not true, signing the best players from relegated teams is a perfectly acceptable market, better teams than us will do it i'm sure. That said, it doesn't really offer great value for money so as a first year promoted team we may be better looking elsewhere.

Well there's your problem the better players will get picked up and you end up having an auction to the highest bidder.

I agree, its a difficult and expensive market, i was picking up on your point that you don't want to be signing relegated players which i think is overly simplistic. Whoever finishes 3rd bottom will get absolutely raided. Wolves will lose a few, both of their Brazilian midfielders for sure and i'd imagine one or two more. Even Burnley have a couple that probably deserve another crack at it. Flemming and Anthony perhaps.

Liverpool did well with Robertson and Wijnaldum and I'd trust Austin and the team to find value wherever. We've signed players that have played a big role or have big potential from leagues in Belgium, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and Holland and then from L1, the PL and the Championship. Loans have been important, freebies have been good, a whole range of fees paid have delivered. Looking fwd to seeing who turns up in the summer!

We need our scouting team to come up with a few gems from around the world.

People will need to be ready for us to be gazumped a lot more than we have been in the last few seasons, mind. The likes of Brighton and Brentford will be looking at better value signings of the type we’ll want to make, for example.

Then we’ll go down with a very low points total IMO. £50m barely buys you the three first team players you definitely need let alone upgrades anywhere else or squad players.

All the 'B' clubs can suck my pole. The big boys are back now.

I think we'll spend up to £100 million as things stand. Who knows, King might secure significant investment.

Will be surprised if we don't shift to 5-2-3/5-3-2 which has worked successfully for Sunderland and Leeds this season

You're looking at a minimum of:

GK
CB
CB
LB
CM
RW
LW

Leaves you with a 25-man squad of:

GK, Dovin, Wilson
MvE, KKH
CB, CB, Thomas, Lati, Woolf
LB, Dasilva
CM, Grimes, Onyeka, Rudoni, Eccles, Torp
RW, Saka
LW, EMC
Wright, Simms, BTA

Out: Kitch, Allen, Bidwell, Brau, Markelo (loan)

Then to go further you swap BTA/Simms for a ST, Eccles/Torp for another CM, Lati/Woolf for another CB

Well in this thread we have Onyeka and Grimes are starting. Elsewhere the same people are telling me EMC and Sakamoto don’t need replacing. Generally I’ve seen MvE Thomas Rudoni don’t either. I guess you could say Haji Wright hasn’t been mentioned either so that’s three of the current starting eleven I haven’t had absolute head loss from the usual suspects on here for suggesting we need to upgrade.
Of course we need new signings. But do you really think we'll bring in 20 new players?

You've mentioned the players we would like to keep, which are just as it happens have a chance of making the jump up. This isn't not wanting to replace them but keeping the best of what we have now to make up a squad. Just like this season where we had players not supposed to be good enough. All of our players have come in and played their part.

Is that from another Prem club?
The rules are a bit of a mess as the PL & other leagues are trying to come to a common UEFA agreement. Under PL rules you are only allowed 1 from another PL/EFL club at any time and 4 over the season from PL/EFL clubs. There seems to be a UEFA agreement for 6 over the season so I don't know if we could get another 2 from teams in Europe.

No as I’ve repeatedly said I think we will bring in around 10.

So we bring in 10 new players. Which players would you like to keep? Those we have mentioned already or those who will be gone?

So now we agree. Not only can we not replace the whole squad, but as Rushworth isn't our own player we're not even expecting to sign a new 1st team. Even Onyeka would be one of the new signings.

So yes it's important who we keep. We have top performers for the Championship in our side. If the aim is to make each of these second choice then I'm aboard.

You need to lower your expectations. You say none of our present players are good enough and also say we can only afford to sign 10 players. As long as nobody is expecting too much we can do it.

Gee man I don’t know maybe read my posts in this very thread instead of making people up to be condescending to in your head?
