I only watched the 1st half of the Boro game and was worst finishing I have seen in any division since we were in league 2. If that doesn’t improve they will drop off

I think our fans overrated them when they beat us .. we were the better side and should have been 2 up at HT .. football doesnt work that way but i think boro are a better side
Agreed. It seems to be the cool thing to take piss out of Boro at the moment on here though

Think soton defo have a chance tho of course. But playoffs will likely be evenly contested in both semis this year

Southampton do seem to have a lot of momentum though.
Having said that, Sunderland had no momentum last season and still won

That's natural. To take the piss out of a team you'd have to have beaten them in all recent encounters as otherwise there would always be the chance of that jibe coming back at you. We'd therefore expect the same from Bristol City.

Boro fit that example for Cov. Expect Ipswich to therefore take the piss out of you and us to take the piss out of Brum, Saints and hopefully Ipswich/Millwall come the season end.

Because they've beaten you in every encounter. For some reason head to heads matter more to the fan taking the piss than any league standing? Illogical perhaps as it's a much smaller set of results, but perhaps it has to do with the fact that those are the games that they'll have watched the opposing fan's team much more closely?

As an example, us losing to Pompey, despite them having a bit of a rep as giant killers, was far more humbling than losing to you when you're at the top of the league and they're around the bottom, but of course your fans will focus on the games between us as that's when most of them have likely seen us play the most. Ipswich will have watched you most in your encounters with them and will therefore take the piss out of you with those encounters in mind above all else.

We did the same to Sunderland despite them being Prem and us Championship at the time, when we beat them in 2 separate cup matches and a friendly for good measure.

Sunderland will likely finish below Newcastle this year, but i think they'll be making noise about this season's results for a while to come.
Well it’s a bit different when you’re both mid table.

If we go up and Ipswich don’t are they really going to pipe up?

I'm confident Portsmouth will take points out of Ipswich,if that's any good.

I’m going to be furious when Blues fans brag about beating us at their place when we are crowned champions.

I think it's fair to say a lot of football fans have no shame or humility, especially on social media, so I would say yes they probably would.
Still slightly odd in my opinion.

The user trying to compare Cov and ipswich with Sunderland and Newcastle was also pretty funny

Like I said though head to heads always seem to matter the most, the example of Sunderland being in a league above us during our pisstaking of them being a good example.

Yes that’s because you are rivals by location.

Ipswich and us is just irrelevant

It's not to them though, due to the head to heads. They would probably say something along the lines of that "Champions? They weren't much cop to me, defence like butter," based entirely off their two games with you and conveniently overlooking the entire rest of your season. Illogical yes, but it's what fans do.🤪

Whether we go up or not we've had a vastly superior season to Bristol City. But we'd expect sections of their support to take the piss out of us regardless, whatever the outcome. Even should we get promoted, they'd still be inclined to tip us to break Derby's all time lowest points record next season, on the grounds of them being able to get results against us regularly, even if we play them off the park in those games. Completely overlooking the rest of our season and the fact that we'd undoubtably invest in players further if so.

It's just what fans are like. Head to Heads matter to them the most as their team is involved in them, so it's what they focus on the most.

We beat Fulham 7-2 over 2 games in their championship winning season. I don't remember a single one of our fans suggesting we were a better team than them.

Watching Ipswich several times this season I'd say their performances against us were the outliers.

When we are promoted and then even more so when we are crowned Champions, every defeat suffered becomes an irrelevant inconvenience.

I don't know and don't particularly care.

But thats the reason why they may well gloat.

If we do the double over Villa next year and get relegated, will be exactly the same for many.

To you yes, of course it will be. What is a club doing the double over you when you win the league and get another 200M in the pot?

To them though it will be different.

I thought it was pretty funny that we did the double over Fulham and also denied cheat code Mitrovic scoring in both games as well. But I assume anyone ‘boasting’ online about it hasn’t got pubes.

This happens too, of course. Though he's not doing too badly for a bloke of 37 when he joined, who didn't have a playing career of note (about 8 appearances for the senior side of a Swedish 2rd tier side), to go straight into the middle of a season in England in which he's never played or managed before.

But I'd imagine in doing so, the two matches against yourselves will be brought up as reference points of this far more often than any other.

I've heard the defence described as being a soft touch, despite being the best in the league for example. Using our two games against yourselves as the evidence and ignoring the rest of our season. It's simply what fans do.

Some Ipswich fans will do the same with yourselves, some Bristol City with us, some of ours with Saints, just in the main using 2 games out of 46 as the main benchmark to judge. Ridiculous on all counts, yes, but nevertheless it will happen.

I only really bring up our results against boro when i hear somebody say they are better .. its factually an incorrect statement to say middlesbrough are a better side so it got my back up as its taking away from the fact that we are ( lets be honest ) pissing it upto this point

The manager that said it also watched his team get demolished 7-1 down here too so it made it more irritating

We were poor at their place but thats football
