Pretty much spot on but I'd have given MVE another point.

Thought him, Rushworth, Dasilva and EMC the pick of the bunch.

*edit: that was to the OP not Regis.

Can't agree with yours mate, thought Grimes and Onyeka were off it today and never 7s

Thought we played quite well overall bar 15 minutes or so in the second half.

Thought Van Ewijk, Mason-Clarke and Dasilva were good.
Rushworth really solid again, helpless for the goals.

I'm a Simms fan, but not much went for him today, and we looked poorer (last 5 minutes aside) when Wright went off.

The two centre backs struggled a bit. Woolfenden in particular looked slow

I scored Onyeka a 6, bud. Grimes.was everywhere again and a 7 for me.

Actually thought MVE was off it today. Particularly first half. Most of them had an off day

Yes, thought Wolf was really slow on the ball and had little vision to offload forward. Having said that as we had no midfielders finding space it was left to him and Kitch to run the ball forward at times.

Yeah, to be fair I think a lot of it had to do with how Southampton set up. Seemed happy to allow our centre backs to have the ball, but then gave them few options to move it around

Fair enough, all about opinions, but Grimes lost it trying to go past someone in the second half and also nearly cost us a goal when Rushworth came out and saved him with a tackle. Thought his delivery into the box was also poor.

I misread Onyeka, thought you'd given them both 7s.

They couldn't handle EMC! He had a superlative game.

Onyeka subed again, can he not last 90 minutes. 🤔

I thought Grimes was off it today, to the point I was worried he wasn’t fully fit. Didn’t seem to want the ball as much and his movement was limited.

That combined with Onyeka being naturally defensive and neither BTA or Eccles being naturally creative, meant we ended up quite one dimensional.

Get the ball out wide and hope for the best.

Wolf and Kitching are a liability defensively. Wolf also forgot how to head the ball when in the oppositions box.

Rushworth, JDS, Sakamoto probably the stand outs. Thought Wright looked better than usual too.

Rushworth 7
MvE 6.5 a couple of excellent runs
Woolf 5.5 oppo happy to let him have the ball
Kitching 6.5 at least tried to push into space
JDS 7
Grimes 6 not at his best
Onyeka 5 always playing catch-up after first 20 mins.
Eccles 6 not at his best
Saka 7 usual workrate, but largely contained
Wright 6 bad miss
EMC 8 main threat, got little help from ref

BTA 6 ran about to little effect
Simms 5.5 better when he starts
Torp 6 still seems out of sorts
Esse 5.5 made no impact

Mve was a strange one today, beaten easily a couple times, many misplaced passes, but still one of our biggest attacking threats and some good moments defensively. He was consistently inconsistent.

But agree thought we played well enough to get something, maybe even win but football is taking chances, we didnt

Did you hear Tonder Eckhart interview? He said they set out to disrupt the heartbeat of Coventry city namely Grimes! That's why he was not at his best

If Thomas had been playing instead of Wolf he would have scored at least one of those two headers he had in the box. It was like Wolf just closed his eyes and hoped for the best with the ball hitting him on the back of the head twice

JDS and Milan were our stand out outfield players for me. Carl's attitude is tremendous and is clearly a super fit goalkeeper with a very bright future.

A pretty good performance by team but obviously disappointing result

Frank was off the pace today and should have come off earlier. Luke struggling to make a positive impact on team. Shame he didn't take that chance in first half. Liam's weakness seems to be his pace.

Should not have lost the game and team did try hard and had Southampton 'on the ropes'.

EMC and Dasilva the pick of the bunch.

MVE mostly did well but his final ball/decision making was poor.

I thought Eccles was playing well, picked up some good positions in that 10 area and was a big part of how we attacked in the first half. BTA was poor when he came on and didn't give us that option.

Was disappointed with BTA when he came on. Simms too. Neither offered anything new to the game.

Harsh on MVE - his ball for Haji’s header was superb and should have been an assist.

Agree on BTA though, he doesn’t get on the ball enough as a 10 and stifles our play, need Rudi back.

He was rightfully hooked off for Torp when chasing the game.

Him & Woolfenden, I thought, were very casual with their touch & nearly got caught a few times. Whilst we had the chances to win, we were just slightly off it.

Plus... Crystal Palace will never recoup that £13m for Esse!

A little harsh, Stupot, I would say

It was a bad day at the office, but I don't think we played particularly badly. It was a very close game and we missed some fabulous chances.

Just a few mistakes undid us, but we definitely deserved something out of the game and Southampton looked a very decent side, so with that in mind, I do think those scores are rather low

The scores above are more akin to us being beaten and not really offering anything

We had the best chances

I thought we were pretty poor throughout the game, despite creating a few chances. I would say that if we had been beaten and not really offered anything i'd it would have been 4s and 5s. People forget that 6 is a solid rating.

Milan just let the saints player run straight past him into the box for their first, he knew where he was as well. He probably thought the ball in would have been stopped but surely you anticipate?

This seems to happen most of the time down both wings. We retreat into a narrow formation letting the oppo run freely down our flanks. Easy then for them to put in a cross.
Surely this must be following instructions otherwise instinct would be to close the space and stick to their winger.

Dunno how many headers Wolf wanted to miss
I still think Wolf looks division 1 level, not impressed with him at all, Milan in the first half was off it, Grimes caught in possession a few times, fair play to them.closing us down well but their whinging and cheating pissed me off, lets hope the useless bastard FA take a look( doubt it) Saka wasn't really into it, shame Wright went off because Simms wasn't really in the game when he came on, hopefully Wrights injury was just a precaution taking him off
