Statement signings if we go up? (9 Viewers)

First post in about 12 years by the way...

Lets be honest, we need either up and coming hidden gems and some older experienced heads.

But we need an experienced defender. Lewis Dunk perhaps. Reaching end of his career, could come in and stabilise the defence. Then we need an experienced left back. Chilwell could well be that.

Here's an ouside shout for the middle.. Jobe Bellingham. Gone to Germany, its not quite working. Might want to come back over.

The Ox from Celtic.

Then a striker too i think, I think Simms might struggle in the Prem and be a good signing for a Champ side. So then we need someone else.. Another old head comes to mind, Danny Welbeck.
Chilwell isn't a bad shout, we were linked with him before.

Might not be bang on the money as its TransferMarkt, but this is page1 of out of contract Prem players.

I’d imagine Man Utd probably have a year option on Maguire, or if not, will agree a year extension before the summer.

If his wage demands were reasonable, I’d love to have him here next season as a CB who has seen it all in the PL. He was a class act after they beat us on pens too.

Malacia would be a bargain too if he could just go a season without constant injuries. Too risky for a promoted side, especially if he was demanding a big wage.

What are people seeing as the most important positions if King is talking about adding 6 or 7?

I'm thinking CB, LB, LW, RW, ST
CB, LB, ST, CAM, GK, CM, RW

Hughes
Chilwell
Denkey
**Unknown CAM**
Rushworth
Hackney
**Unknown RW**

We have our LW's I think.

I can see Frank sticking with grimes, onyeka and Rudi as starters. Pretty clear he loves grimes and Rudi. Onyeka obviously starts.

Gk is the obvious one I missed out

Thats who I'd go for if stuck for 7.

I'd like an experienced CB and an experienced CDM too.

being conservative I could say we need 8/9 should we go up.
It sounds about right to me. I'd rather spend money on quality than spread it too thin. 1 or 2 free signings with experience from the list above may help with that.

CB - Experienced
CDM - Experienced
CM

GK and CM over LW and ST but otherwise agree.

We need more than 6 really. I’d be amazed if that’s all we sign.

We need to sign players on sensible sums. Leicester, Sheffield Utd etc. Are good examples of what can go wrong.

If we go up, the first thought should be how can we use and preser funds in a way that will ensure we are one of the best the Championship has seen if we go down!

Our first thought shouldn’t be getting relegated or that’s what will happen. We will obviously be one of the better sides in the division if we go down because we’ll have more money than most to spend. We should be aiming to stay up though.

Sheffield United didn't spend anything of note? The sold their only Prem ready player before the season even started (Ndiaye) and the only player they spent a reasonable sum on was Hamer from us. They were relegated before the season even started.

lots of those names are quite old, relatively speaking, some are on the way down in their careers but I understand the constraints we will be under. Maybe we'll be looking further afield as well.

Older players, or certainly more experienced, are essential in a first season up. Not many would have thought of Xhaka to Sunderland but it was exactly what they needed to get off to a decent start.

I`d think that with his extensive Chelsea links, Frank will be looking to utilise loans from Chelsea ( imo )

After all they have got about 200 first team players on their books !
