Statement signings if we go up? (31 Viewers)

First post in about 12 years by the way...

Lets be honest, we need either up and coming hidden gems and some older experienced heads.

But we need an experienced defender. Lewis Dunk perhaps. Reaching end of his career, could come in and stabilise the defence. Then we need an experienced left back. Chilwell could well be that.

Here's an ouside shout for the middle.. Jobe Bellingham. Gone to Germany, its not quite working. Might want to come back over.

The Ox from Celtic.

Then a striker too i think, I think Simms might struggle in the Prem and be a good signing for a Champ side. So then we need someone else.. Another old head comes to mind, Danny Welbeck.
Welbeck and Dunk would be good, but both have had good years and I'd imagine they will be retained by Brighton

I can’t see Rushworth being here next year, hope I’m wrong.

My worry is it could be a similar situation to when Leeds went up with Ben White on loan from Brighton. They thought they would keep him upon promotion but Brighton ended up keeping him for a year before selling him to Arsenal for a much higher fee.

Yeah and we can’t afford to wait for a decision all summer. Brighton will be very aware of how well he is performing, can’t say I’ve paid much attention to Verbruggen but it would be very Brighton to sell him for a decent fee and promote Rushworth.

I'd back you least against Wrexham of those 3 & surprised you've included them in that category. They're low-block merchants away from home and are very good in big games at home

If you fail Hackney will end up at a established mid-table prem side - Everton springs to mind
We got a 1-1 draw with them at our place and had twice as many shots on target, so their low block wasn't as efficient as Charlton's, or Oxford's for that matter.

As for at theirs, they're open so we'd have a good chance of a win there. Providing Hellberg started with a back 5🤞 and used wing backs for width, I'd be confident.

I'd fully expect Hackney to go if we weren't promoted and he'd go with our gratitude and thanks for the memories as he's a passionate local lad who was a ballboy when we last went up and has been at Boro since he was eight. That would at least leave us an estimated 25M in the coffers and we'd probably look to reinvest it, looking to spend around 10M on his replacement and 12-15M on a striker who knows where the net is.
If we manage to get someone at the level of Vipotnik at the Swans for under 15M, you would think he would score an absolute torrent of goals with the sheer volume of chances and shots we get compared to Swansea. If that gives us an extra 10 - 15 points over the season in the multitude of games where we can't buy a goal for love nor money, you'd have to imagine we'd be joining you up there in another 12 months time.

Plus you wouldn't be in the champo either, so that's another potential 6 points even on top of that!🤣

If we were to go up and you lot not. How much do you think Hackney would cost us? £25m?

That's a decent estimate.

Hopefully we'd chuck 10M of it on his replacement and 15M on a Vipotnik. With the volume of shots we create compared to Swamsea, you'd have to imagine we'd be raining goals in.

All those games where we're getting 20-35 shots in and only recording a single goal at best or nothing at all would be turned into a fair few hammerings, add 10-15 points to our end of season total. Plus up to 6 points extra for you not being in the champo, you'd have to fancy us to be joining you in 12 months.👍

Not sure on that. If you dont go up this year be difficult next year.

Southampton, Wrexham, Blues, Wolves, Burnley, Forest/West Ham. Youd do well for a top 6 place.

You say that, but look at the amount of goals Vipotnik gets in relation to Swansea's chance creation. We as a rough estimate get twice as many chances created and shots away as they do?

It's not an exact science granted, but that would have him on 34 goals for us at this point, with a good chance of hitting the 40 mark come season end?
It would be like having another prime Mitrovic in our ranks, added to all the stuff that we do do right?

One of those 6 may well even go up, there's always one that comes down and underperforms. Plus Saints and Blues are further from the finished article than we are now and any players they get in would likely take time to get used to the league etc. Chuck one of the championships biggest returns strikers into our side now amd we'd outgun Brum.

If we get an estimated 84-85 points this year and don't go up. chuck all the points extra from 20 more goals, plus the up to 6 from you not being here?
We could well be another Leeds from last season.

And I can't for the life of me see 3 sides getting around the 100 point mark.

Don't get me wrong, of course I want to go up and I'd love HH to be with us, he loves the club, is one of our own and has been here for 15 years. But in a way it would be like a parting gift from him for us to become as close to the "perfect" championship side as possible. Take our goals conceded from this campaign, add another 20 goals our goals scored and there's only one place we'd be going. I'd be pretty hopeful anyway.

That is a very simplistic view of it IMO.
