Apologies if there's already a thread on this, but I've just been reading that FIFA may be implementing a time limit on throw-ins and goal kicks in the World Cup. If the ref thinks too much time is being taken, a 5-second countdown will start. Can result in giving the throw to the other team, or a corner.

Personally I'm in favour of speeding them up, even if we do like to use MVE for long throws. They've become a tedious tactic, and apparently nearly 11 minutes (!) is taken up by throw-ins in the average Prem game.

2. tactical talk with manager when point 1 happens

3. subs slow walking off or not getting off on the nearest side. (Booking the sub coming on would prevent this)

The keeper "injury" issue will like be in the next set of law tweaks

I love how they are adding some measure to stop disrupting tempo of the game, whilst also increasing the scope for VAR which will *checks notes * disrupt the tempo of the game

With the VAR for second yellows, what if the first yellow, when using VAR, would show it was unwarranted?

The VAR for 2nd yellows is a good thing to me. Most checks on them will be really quick

The daylight offside is ridiculous. Will just led to goal hanging and very deep defensive lines. Wenger’s reputation as an intellectual is in tatters

Ah, I forgot to say that they are dealing with this too. 10 seconds to get off, or the replacement can't come on until the first stoppage after 1 minute of play.

I imagine you'll be given a bit more leeway if you've lost a limb or something!

Every summer tournament they implement something's that work and then the domestic leagues don't carry on with it

There was a world cup, think it was 2018. Where FIFA cracked down on playacting and the games were so much better cos refs let play carry on and players had to get up and start playing again

Come September it was stop start again

Their keeper was sat down with the ball for about 5 seconds yesterday, clearly time wasting, he then took a further 5 to get up and then the ref started his 8 second count. Oxford keeper got away with it a few times the other week also - they deffo get longer than they are supposed to get.

They need to introduce an official that keeps track of the time or something. They’ve brought in these rules that don’t actually get implemented, like the time limit for goal keeper resulting in a corner… there’s not been a single instance been given in our games but GKs still take the piss.

this does need to be sorted. watching mve jog across the field to take a long throw on the left is just boring, and very rarely worth it.
get the ball back in play, and get on with it.

The referees aren’t stupid, they probably know 8 seconds are up but choose not to apply the rules on edge cases to avoid controversy.

Imagine the grief they’d get if the resulting corner led to a goal? Fundamentally, the law isn’t clear either because it says 8 seconds after the surrounding players have cleared…

One of the worst things they brought in was being able to take the goal kick from the opposite side the ball went out. How often does the keeper piss about with a slow walk to the opposite side for a goal kick.

That was brought in to speed up restarts. Take the kick from whichever side the ball ends up, rather than walking from one side of the goal to the other. With the pro game using multi ball it's not really needed anymore.

Wouldn’t bother with any of this just play 30 minutes each way with the ball in play. TV companies most probably don’t like it but at the moment an average match has about 55 minutes of action,

I just wish refs and linesmen would clamp down on where the throw-ins are taken from. Ball goes out for a throw in, player picks up ball, walks 10 or 12 yards from where it went out of play! Talk about gaining advantage! FA etc, need to look at how rugby is played! Linesman will stand exactly where the ball went out for the line-out throw. Also, when a conversion kick is awarded after a try, there's a time clock that ticks down to stop time-wasting.
