Tactically - Lampard is pretty good (9 Viewers)

You kind of get the feeling that you made your bed with onyeka before he signed ..

I give you he wasnt great last night but he was very good in the previous 2
The same with Lampard, Haji and probably a list of other things I’ve not cared to remember. @shmmeee makes quick judgements and then forced into U-turns months later, this is no different.

In the defensive part of the game, he was a top performer in the Bundesliga. He was obviously going to be an upgrade on what we have and no disrespect to Torp or Grimes, but they’d have been signed to a Prem team if they had the opportunity too.

He didn’t play well last night but by no stretch played badly.

Also in that first half we got in behind them more than once, just couldn’t quite capitalise. We have ‘done a Hull’ xG wise but I actually think we looked a lot more difficult to break down.

Giving the ball away close to goal however and there’s not much Onyeka can do about it.

Don't know what the xG stats were last night, but surely Wright failing to score from right in front of the goal last night was the clearest goal scoring opportunity that wasn't taken?

Didn't their defender get there before Wright? If so I doubt it counts, he'd have to actually have the effort for it to count I think.

Lots of people have said that. I’ve been pretty whelmed with him. The view from that Brentford fan seems spot on from what I’ve seen so far. He’s made two or three good tackles, a nice dive to break up play last night, been an absolute bomb scare on the ball. But he’s starting and it’s working so I won’t complain too hard.
Really? I can't say I agree. Two of his first three games have been against two of the strongest midfields in the division and to me he hasn't looked out of place.

If so that's one of the fallbacks in over relying on xG as an indicator I guess, as football being the game it is means it can never be an exact science. Wright was in front of their defender as the ball was played to him, and shouldn't really have given him the chance to get there first, even if the defender does deserve some credit.

Of course, xG is just a tool and no tool is going to perfectly mathematically describe how a game went. I generally find it far more useful as a diagnostic than possession though, which is still usually the first stat you see after the scoreline.

Well yes I think most accept for a one off game its not necessarily a useful stat as it doesn't take certain things into consideration, but over a period of time its very useful as its gives a good idea of it your team are creating or not.
