I hope teams see how we played against Middlesbrough, and just copy our tactics.
We were very effective against them, and nullified their impressive midfield.

I'm not a 'recruitment truther'. I think in the main we've done very well.

I think however that we left ourselves short in the summer window and that really affected us in the winter months.

We've done excellently well in January to rectify that but we'd probably be out of sight now if we just did that in the summer.
Agreed, the wings were a clear issue and I fully understand we couldn't turn down the Sheaf offer from Wrexham, I doubt we'd planned for that, didn't we try a late deal for Bogarde or whatever his name is at Villa? We were definitely short a holding player. Grimes worked so well but ran out steam. Thankfully Onyeka has plugged that and Esse, Yang and
Markelo add loads of depth to the front line.

Feels like only Rushworth and Dasilva who we'd struggle to cover now

Sheff Wednesday's takeover is off

If they were to start next season in admin do they get another deduction?
They should have accepted the Ashley bid. Yes they'd have started next season with a points deduction, but they were never getting promoted anyway.

If approval had come through in time, they could be already planning their rebuild.

And yes, I think being in admin would see a points deduction.

No, but that will be the least of their concerns.
Looked like this bloke who has pulled out was/is a bit of a crook, professional poker player by all accounts - Wonder if it is the bloke who went on CWR and said he is close to buying us as well as forging all the solicitors documents

Wouldn't surprise me to see Mike Ashley swoop in at the 11th and a half hour to get it as cheap as poss, Hillsborough would be plastered in Frasers advertising next season but least they would have a club to support I guess

I've said before but there is a big chance of them being liquidated. I was never convinced there was a viable takeover for them.
I dunno, I just cannot see anyone allowing a club the size of Sheffield Wednesday ceasing to exist

2019 when Bury and Bolton were going to the wall, no disrespect to Bury at all but there was a reason they didn't make it and a club the size of Bolton did

Someone, somewhere will be daft enough to take a club like Bolton or Sheff Weds on - Bury were unfortunately not a big enough name to be saved

Interestingly they’ve spent quite a bit keeping the club’s losses funded in the meantime but decided not to proceed. If they’re losing £12 million a year and also need someone to pay for renovations at Hillsborough on top, it’s a big ask.

I’m still sure they will get a white knight though.

Tim Fisher was on record being a big Sheffield Wednesday fan...

Maybe they could have him and Joy

To be fair we also hadn't got a direct replacement for Sheaf which we now have. We still had a strong squad but it wouldn't be unfair to say it over-performed early season.
No disagreement about over petofmring. Think papering over cracks is a bit different though personally.

Too much of a simplification. No top team in world would ever thave a bad patch if that was true and most tlegaues be over by February

You don't think our results would have been better with Esse and Onyeka in the team from the end of November?

It isn't easy to bring in the quality players we are after without spending over the odds. We had to wait for Brentford to spend £35m on a player before Onyeka was seen as disposable. It is well worth waiting a few months from selling Sheaf and adding a couple of million to bring in the quality we have.

They definitely would of.
But would they have been as good prior to that if we'd had Onyeka?

Grimes on his own was working fine until it wasn't. And we couldn't recruit anyone else until January.

I'm playing devil's advocate a bit here because I think the squad was a body or 2 short.

Who did Brentford sign in midfield for £35m?

Were they available before we signed them?

Think Onyeka was, Esse probably not, Yang obviously was cos he went to Portsmouth

Dango Ouattara. They kept Onyeka as cover as they had another midfielder injured, but when he returned Onyeka ended up 4th choice and lucky to get on the bench. But IIRC he played in 9 games for them this season.

He was a winger at Bournemouth wasn’t he?

In his last 50 games he has not once played in CM

Where as in the last 50 games he has played Onyeka hasn't played in a position Ouattara has played

Plays on left and right as an attacking midfielder. Are you saying Onyeka only plays DM?
He doesn't play as a winger a no, I've posted his last games as well and as I said not once has he played in a position that Ouattar has played in.

I suggest you forget all the incorrect facts you know about Onyeka and note where he does play. He can play anywhere in midfield and he does.

So why did he play for them in the first half of the season but is now down the pecking list?

Did he play for them?
