Is needed at CCFC? Should we make some changes to our starting XI v Bury?

Any one agree?

*this does not involve killing anyone for anyone who takes the title seriously. I got it from the commentary of France v Wales (6 Nations) and liked it, so I stole it ;)

We'll certainly make changes, but injuries will influence any changes made. Baker, Clarke and Adams(?) all needed treatment on Saturday; and I seem to recall that Edge was limping for a time.

Only one change needed Clarke for Elliot

Considering Clarke has more goals than Elliott, I don't think that is all that is needed.

CT, Fleck, J. Clarke, Elliott and Cameron to start!? At least 2-3 to start IMO.

I fear that some players have got way too comfortable with their starting position.

Cameron is most certainly worth a shout. We are shipping too many goals in and many of them preventable too.

Drop McSheffrey......

....He needs a kick up the arse, a wake up call.....

He should be pissing this league, but his goal return & general contribution has been utter shite for far too long now....

Obviously clarke has more goals then Elliot but unless it's put on the plate clarke don't seem to bring anything. Whereas as soon as Elliot comes on he works his socks off

I believe the phrase, Night of Long Knives comes from the early 1960 cabinet reshuffle under Macmillan,in which he sacked nearly half of his cabinet, maybe Robins will follow suit.;)

To be quite honest, a little bit of luck wouldn't go amiss.

There is no way we should have lost either of the last 2 games and the same could be most definitely said for Shrewsbury at home too.

We've had a shot total of close to 40 over the last 2 games and it is absolutely astonishing that we haven't scored one single goal. Wouldn't be surprised if we have just 4 shots on target against Bury on Saturday and score from 3 of them.

I'm not trying to deflect from our defensive deficiencies but we hit the post on Tuesday and the bar Saturday. Also I noted in both games how we weren't getting the rub of the green for the 2nd ball in either game. We had a shot parried or deflected or cleared and invariably it ended up landing to an opposition player rather than in front of a Sky Blue player and that was by default rather than by design.

We've not had too much luck lately. Not since Preston at home in the JPT and that 3rd offside goal.

It's quite unbelievable how we let in that goal on Saturday from our own throw-in quite deep into their half. Beggars belief to be honest.

Don't think we need to do too much different to start winning again. Tighter at the back and more midfield help for the back 4 for sure, but we are creating enough. Just seem to have not had that bit of luck or our shooting boots on to be honest.

Thought he was playing well on saturday and shouldn't have come off. I'd have took moussa off instead.

Opinions though ain't it

Night of Long Knives is the purges Hitler did in 1934, when he removed 'political enemies and threats'. That cabinet reshuffle was probably taking the piss out of MacMillian.

Murphy
Clarke Cameron Wood Adams(if fit)
Baker Bailey Sheffers Fleck
Elliott Clarke

Subs: Dunn Christie Edje Barton Moussa Jenno Philliskirk

Edje and Mous have been playing regularly and IMO need a rest, cus they havent been great in the last few games so maybe its tie to give them a rest and see if Fleck has improved, also try and bring Cameron back up to scratch cus Wood isnt gonna be here forever and its good to have a young, ready-made replacement in line. Just keep Ball away from the team. Lets see what this Philliskirk kid can do from the bench. The 4-4-2 formation works better. We have much more depth in atttack against Crewe than we did against Yeovil, we just need to take those chances

Clarke has more goals than Elliott because he's played more. Clarke usually starts, and Elliott has come off the bench. However, the fact that he "works his socks off" (or runs about a lot) does not necessarily make Hume a better player. Andy Morrell "worked his socks off" but he was a crap player - not a patch on Leon Best, or Jay Bothroyd, who people often labelled as "lazy".

However, having said all that, I do think it's time to start Elliott in place of Clarke. Not because of his work rate but because he's a cleverer player than Clarke. Clarke is an instinctive player, whereas Elliott has learned by experience when to pick a pass (and how to), when to shoot, and where to be at the right time.

He might also persuade the rest of the team to play on the floor.

Again, fans are fans and managers are managers.

You would replace someone who has 5 goals in 11 appearances for a player who has 4 in 22.

Thank god Robins is our manager.

I know Elliott has been sub a few times, but I just don't see how you can drop our top scorer.

9 of those 22 were sub appearances, while Clarke started from the bench once. If he's having a barren patch then yes you DO drop your top scorer. If you're not winning, you try something a bit different.
Just my opinion mind. Robins will do whatever he does because he's the manager & has more experience of football than I have. I'm happy to defer to him.

How is 2 games a barren patch?

Sure if he hadn't scored for 5 games perhaps, but only 3 games ago he scored twice.

1 of his 4 goals was off the bench, so shall we discount that, and say, 3 in 13?

When you're not 1st choice scoring off the bench is where you break into the starting XI, or doing well in the absence of an injured or suspended player, which Elliott did somewhat.

Well said, something that's bugged me about fans for a long time, I don't know if it's just English/British fans but look at Dirk Kuyt, fan favourite at Liverpool, ran his socks off, scored fuck all and had no attributes to play wing, terrible player for LFC.

Only thing about Clarke is, I don't think he fits in with our system so we're accommodating him but it's having a negative impact on the team. I genuinely don't know who I'd start upfront, but I don't think starting 2 upfront is the answer, and that is where we disagree.

The important thing here is that any changes have to be justified and not just made for the sake of it. It'd be very tempting to rip up the team sheet and start anew but unless someone deserves to be in the side on merit then there's no point in just chucking them in. For instance, Cameron may well be an improvement at centre half but none of us have seen him in training and few of us will have seen him in the reserves. Looking at what Mr MR (dah dum tsh) said post Yeovil changes could well be on the cards, but they'll have been thought through and hopefully not just reactionary.

For Liverpool -
176 (32) PL appearances 51 goals - 1 in 4 from right midfield
49 (5) European appearances (CL and EL) 15 goals just less than 1 in 4 from right midfield

For holland
93 international appearances and 24 goals less than 1 in 4

You're right that's an awful return from someone who played wide right for th majority of his English career

It is probably because they played 442 or something!

He was signed as a striker and played RM in last 2 season (I think).

They paid 10m for a striker who never scored more than 13 in a season..,

I wonder how many assists he got, I'll have a look in a min.

People don't want Elliott selecting ahead of Clarke just because he "works his socks off": they want him as he looks a faster, more intelligent, more skillful and simply all-round better player in every way. Leon might have scored some goals when playing abysmally, but Elliott has contributed too much to ignore after the last two matches-as well as having a decent strike-rate when starting under Robins. In terms of goals disallowed (Stevenage?), hitting the woodwork and great 'keeper saves, he's also probably been our most unlucky player.

No they want him because he runs around a lot and chases lost causes. He is a classic case of font over substance. His finishing is generally quite poor. Was it Preston when he headed over from 3 yards with the keeper out his goal.

Other than MK Dons away when he has started games he generally has been average when starting games.

He weren't even that good in the 1st half.

But, aren't you like this about Fleck? Yes.

Fleck is a huge disappointment. Far too slow and rarely involved in the game.
