I was his biggest fan, was so happy when we signed him but he’s become worse and worse this season. He never takes risks, can’t tackle which leaves us vulnerable, can’t take a corner, only passes sideways and backwards with the occasional 5 yard forward pass. Seriously what’s the point? He needs to be dropped and we need onyeka in his place

His position was further ahead than normal, which was pleasant. But he seemed to go back to his laboured self in the second half.

I just don’t get it, we didn’t sign him to play deeper than our cb’s. For Swansea in clips he was spraying balls everywhere, for us the best forward pass he can do is a 5 yard one forward

I wanted us to sign him for years and then he comes here and is a totally different player

He slows us down when he plays further forward, we should of had Onyeka starting today, why bring in a Premier league and international player and leave him on the bench when the midfield is so slow and negative?

Because our manager has lost the plot

This is the first game in weeks where I actually thought grimes was decent. Never been a fan boy of his like many on here but today he tried to challenge higher up and was one midfield trying to get the ball passed further up the pitch

Yep-agree with that. Thought it was one of his better games than recent other ones. He was demanding the ball and trying, probably too hard, to make things happen which unfortunately didn’t come off for us. Wasn’t hiding that’s for sure.

I thought Grimes was decent today, played a bit further forward particularly in the first half and almost within a whisker of scoring with a very decent effort... also thought Wolfendon played well (better football player than Kitching for sure).

He passes sideways and backwards because he has no options in front of him. Torp lacks pace and is useless at finding a pocket of space. Sakamoto and MVE delivered nothing from wide. Sakamoto just didn’t have the pace to go outside the Oxford defender. That was apparent early doors, so he started drifting into the penalty area which was already over conjested.

with Oxford parking the bus, and doing it well, we had to stretch them out wide. We passed up so many chances to cross the ball from wide areas.

I know Esse can be too flash at times. But he was the only player unlocking them, driving into the box or undoing them with passes or getting in behind them. Why Lampard took him off and left Sakamoto on is a mystery.

Grimes isn’t in the best run of form, but he wasn’t the problem today. Look at the likes of Sakamoto, Torp, MVE and Dasilva. All crowd favourites with inflated reputations. None of them are Peemier League level

There was no movement up front for Grimes to pass to. Even if he went to the wing it just gets played back to the FBs. It’s so one dimensional our play it’s easy to play against.

Let's be honest he doesn't do longer range passes. And certainly not forward.

Thought he showed a little more energy today but agree he plays too safe too much, and seemingly the rest seem to follow suit. Unless it’s AAATB, we take zero, ZERO, risk.

Long range passes aren’t really an option against a well organised team like Oxford sitting deep. He actually is a forward passer, others were killing the momentum and going backwards.

I'm talking generally. He is good at getting hold of the ball and passing 10 yards he rarely does searching passes especially forward.

He tried today....
He must be getting frustrated.
There were times when he had the ball, started moving forward with it, looked up, hoping to see a clever run/movement......
But was met with 7 players in front of him, ALL STOOD STILL!!! (With Oxford players next to them!)

Do wonder why Victor Torp doesn’t have his own thread 🤔 at least Grimes doesn’t go missing for weeks and weeks on end.

His job is to get us up the pitch, which he does. Considering we play. With two wingers and two fullbacks (at times ridiculously high). Yet he still manages to put more crosses into the box than our wingers and fullbacks. He is one player with the instinct, we need to whip this in.

The big failures today were Torp, Sakamoto, MVE and Dasilva at creating attacking opportunities.

Because he has scored a few great goals. But he can’t dictate the midfield. He can sometimes play neat triangles like Dasilva. Torp is seriously lacking in pace and lacks physicality (Esse already has shown he can be harder to knock off the ball). When it becomes a battle and scruffy in midfield like today Torp is very vanilla and just melts away.
