Just watched 20 mins of the afcon semi final

He works hard. Box to box. Nigeria got caught on counter a few times and he got back into the box to help defend crosses etc. Pretty tidy on the ball too.

Reminds me of when Carlton Palmer joined us.
Other teams fans said he was a donkey, but he completely changed our midfield and gave us a solid platform to go and perform.
Hopefully Onyeka can do the same.

Everyone banking on Onyeka being the magic answer to our awful performances since xmas. I hope he is the magic answer and we can turn this around because at the moment we are a team in relegation form Thank god for our start.Leaking goals like a sieve, cant create with two shots on target all game on Saturday and a midfield that has turned into a side of Samy sideways and backwards. The way we are playing at the moment we will be lucky to make the playoffs and Lampard is looking more and more like a Rooney and Gerard in management with no plan b. One swallow doesnt make a summer but fingers crossed one player can make our season

I do think one player can transform things. Look what happened when we brought Dennis Wise to the club.

I just think it can galvanise you, have you more organised, a bit more physical (in both cases, Wise and Onyeka) and it can help glue everything back together.

I am hopeful Frank The Tank can do that.

Would love to see a speedy LB and a CB in too, though.

Pete tell me it isnt true then. The last two months we have been awful even in the games we've won they haven't been great convincing performances and Lampard seems to be getting arsy if anyone dares question him. I get the feeling that there has been a bit of a fall out somewhere perhaps lampard and Doug over the Bamford deal with King pulling the plug Perhaps we have no money

We were excellent against Southampton and clearly shouldn't have lost at Birmingham and only got a draw at Charlton. Don't think we were particularly bad in those two games and when we got to 2-2 against Blues, we looked like the only side who would go on to win it

Yup, we have been poor in quite a few games, but others, we have thrown points away due to stupid individual mistakes, but not looked that bad

It's definitely a concern, but I think it needs tweaking rather than ripping up and a signing or two can completely change our fortunes

Think the hope is that were awful in them games becuase we’re swamped in midfield - if we can plug the gap which Onyeka is likely to do we should be more stable

Got to say I’m more worried that our manager seems to be refusing to look at his part in this than any player. Nothing is stopping him telling Eccles or Torp to play deeper or the fullbacks not to bomb on when we’re one up away from home after a run of seven without a win. The hope seems to be Onyeka will just paper over all that, be a one man defence and let us carry on.

Depends what your definition of poor is.
To concede the 2 goals we did against Blues, get back into it, then concede the 3rd in the manner we did is very poor in my opinion.

Yeah, agree.lnand that was vey poor. I am saying our general play wasn't poor though. It was just ridiculous mistakes. All three goals against Birmingham were mistakes.

There have been games where we have just looked poor all round. Bereft of ideas. In others, we have played okay apart from daft mistakes. Both are poor, but one gives you a belief that you are a decent side who needs to cut out the errors, the other makes you think "where the hell do we go from here"
