Im confused. Kitching and Thomas played awful and i wake up to a post digging out wolfenden for being on the bench 😂

Let's see if I can help you, Wolfenden had a bad game, dropped, Brau had a bad game, dropped, Kitching had a bad game, will he be dropped?

15 Prem appearances, 55 in the championship.. Is that not enough experience? I don't get your point
I think the point being made was less about experience and more about the overall celing of his ability.

It's not his fault, but Woolfenden was a 4 million + signing and is reportedly one of the top earners at the club. Based on what we have seen of him in games he has started (Wrexham being one example), it's hard to say he is justifying his price tag and wages.

Viorel Moldovan must be up there. Wasn't he about £4.5M (£10M plus in today's money) for 10 league games and 2 goals? If we'd got that return out of Haji Wright for £7.7M we'd be claiming he was our biggest expensive flop.

The fee for Woolfenden is not out of whack really. We paid more for Kitching who had less champ experience (yes there were other factors too). And it’s too early to judge although I remember a few Ipswich fans saying he’s better in a back 3.

Biggest flop I can think of at the moment is Eoin Jess. £2m, 1 goal and a £1.3m loss when we sold him back to Aberdeen.

Yeah but one of them was against Villa so worth ten times as much.

Wasn’t Moldovans fault Hucks and Dublin were unstoppable tbf.

Have a look at the team we put out at Wrexham. Unfair to judge anyone on that..other games, he has done okay. Hardly played, Franks decision. He has played a lot of games. At least 50 plus, in the Championship, 15 Prem league. Weren't Kitching and Thomas from league 1?

Or even Thomas had a stupid 3 match ban, came straight back in and had a bad game…. Will he be stopped?

I get Kitch and Thomas presided over some of our best form earlier this season, but does that give them a free pass?

will be interesting to see if we go 3 CB’s with QPR, or stick with 2 and of course who will get the nod to start. After Mondays performance I feel a switch up may be needed.

The candidates for biggest wastes of money are long and painful and Woolfenden wouldn’t even feature:
Drinkell
Evtushok
Bellamy
Robertson
Pressley
Hughes
Etc etc

Jay Bothroyd?

Probably not the worst player ever to don a City shirt but certainly one of the laziest.

If I am remembering correctly, didn't Gordon Strachan say something along the lines of that Sandy Robertson was tactically poor. Unable to track back or something?

Think he just dumped him in the reserves didn't he

He came with quite a reputation and we didn’t sign a lot of players at that time do maybe he had a bit of unreasonable expectation. Safe to say he didn’t live up to it.

Larry Lloyd. We spent British (even world?) records transfer fee for him - then we had to sell him to Forest for a quarter of what we paid and then oddly he started to bother to play football again

When Bobby Gould first came to manage us he bought in Peake, Bennett, Gynn, Adams, Pearce, Platnauer and Gibson, then Oggy and Borrows the next season too, but ironically the marquee signing that cost the most money in that first Summer was Ashley Grimes who was awful.

Didnt Don Mackay sign Borrows?

Am sure I read that the Lloyd signing also resulted in us having to sell Mortimer to Villa to balance the books, who also became a European Cup winner.

I'm surprised KKH didn't come in for Milan during the spell of games where we had illness and a depleted squad (unless he was also unwell.
Especially as MVE also looked absolutely battered for a bit
KkH was still injured that’s why Milan was still player while recovering from the flu

As well as the Villa goal, which was worth his fee alone, I think we sold him for pretty much what we paid.

Bobby was in the Championship best team of the season so far a couple of weeks ago. This was before recent lapses.
Woolfie has struggled to replace the best player in the Championship in his preferred position.
In a weakened team, with three defensive changes at Wrexham, he had a mare.
The whole team were poor against Ipswich at home. Clarke shoots, deflects off him into the net.
Against Stoke, heads the ball out, Stoke player scores a worldie. Been unlucky really, as has been fine most of the time with limited appearances.
Really can't judge yet.
We needed back up for MVE. KKH has had bad luck with injuries. A player I am convinced will come good, if he can avoid getting injured.

I agree re Larry Lloyd, was only thinking earlier how poor he was for us and then Clough got a great tune out of him...so he's definitely one of the biggest flops ever. Also had a random thought about Bobby Gould (who I liked as a person tbh) would have been brilliant to listen to Clive Eakin with Bobby has his sidekick doing the radio commentary... comedy gold that would been.🤣.

There were some odd ones as well. Wegerle just didn’t turn up for the season, Jarni signed and never played. Then you had Alan Brazil, Terry Butcher. Big flops

Before or after the game?

Or perhaps during?

After but I was on a promise and clearly remember thinking as we beat Villa for I think the first time in my life (?) “strong contender for best day of my life”.

First son is due to be born this year at the start of June so if he’s early and we go up we could have a contender.
