"Obikwu is being sold for a fee of around £500k". Thats in the articles, but "Coventry sign Esse on loan" says just that! Not, "Coventry sign Esse on loan for an upfront fee of £X amount"!

We paid a loan fee for Clarke Harris of £125,000 in league 2

Absolutely not bothered about Mehmeti signing for Ipswich. Decent enough player, but petulant and not better than what we already have. Goes missing in a lot of games.

No loan fee for Esse? Have Crystal Palace become a charity?
No, but if they can reduce their wage bill for a few months and get some much needed game time for a player just sat on the bench, then why not? Thats the payment in itself. Especially for a PL club. We all know PL clubs collect youth players in the hope one turns good. Not like any PL club is that hard up paying Esse £15k a week AND need £150k in return of a loan out!

Frustratingly, Joe Edwards has just told the Cov Telegraph that we have no obvious targets and that Frank previously told them he was happy with the front end of the pitch and midfield. It could be cryptic that we will never think of who they are eyeing up, that there just isn't anyone being eyed up or that defence is where they are looking to improve. So vague and uninspiring, but I get that they won't openly advertise what they plan.

I'm sorry. but this is just isn't how it works.

Loan fees are very common indeed. Not sure where you got it from that they are highly irregular

Two years ago Hamer performed well for an awful side in the Prem. Last season he performed very well for a side that lost in the play off final.

This season he's kept his attacking numbers up, but his defensive numbers are pretty horrific and he looks out of shape. What do we need more, another attacking threat or a ball winner further back?
He’s been playing LW thats why his defensive numbers arent the same as he only has to do the attacking side of his game, put him back in the 8 for us and he’ll blossom once again Im sure

Because good tho he was in a pisspoor team, he wasn’t good enough to make the difference and keep them up.

The following year Ipswich gambled on loaning Kalvin Phillips rather than signing Hamer.
His subsequent performance in the championship only served to reinforce the point that the best player of the division wasn’t enough to get his team promoted.

The fitness issues are real. He was unable to complete 90 mins in two Wembley play off finals and - arguably - both incidents resulted in his team losing the final. Since the start of this season his physical appearance has seemed less athletic and clubs will know all about his rumoured refuelling habits.
Unfair on him for the first one he was targeted relentlessly by Luton without consequence and as expected had to go off injured, they did a number on him as he was the difference

He’s been in the matchday squad less than any other first team player. He’s never played more than 2.5k minutes in a season and is on 1800 ish so far.

The first statement is incorrect because Eccles, Sakamoto and Rudoni have missed more games. Haji Wright has played less minutes too, there's probably others. In any case, Torp is on course to comfortably surpass 2.5k minutes this season, so does your point become redundant if he hits 2.8-3k minutes this season? The sample size is also only 1 full season so you're jumping to conclusions.

Sakamoto only just surpassed 2.5k (2,588) minutes last season and I'm not seeing anyone question whether or not he can hack it in England.

I appreciate that we're concerned we've not secured quality CM player so far. Hopefully, that'll be addressed soon.
However, for those asking for DK to "splash the cash" need to consider the outlay he's already made this season in buying the stadium and the two recent loans. I'd imagine that Esse loan fee and wages will be significant.
King said that buying the stadium doesn't affect the transfer budget, or are you calling him a liar?

It’s not that they need it, it’s that players like Esse will have multiple suitors and some will be prepared to offer more money.

Hopefully something is bubbling away behind the scenes that no one knows about

iirc - we were pretty coy on signing Grimes this time last year and the news only broke when Swansea's manager said he expressed his interest in speaking to an unnamed club

This was not the transfer window to be cautious, pretty sure we are trying at least on the CM.

Thought the record might have changed since the day Gus left ....But i can still hear the same notes being played.

If he comes great, if he doesn't come great. I honestly think and feel the same about any target we go for, went for or had. If we had they leave good fucks to them all.

All i know is we are top of the league by 6 pts with the squad that got us there. In our own ground, in our city with crowds growing, media interest making us a fashionable topic. And with an owner that promised us his support and to do it right ..

Bollocks to those who don't come, in fact im glad they didn't. Get behind what is, not what was or what could be, that answer will come in time.

Be happy and excited, what a time to be a Cov fan. They are all chasing what we have, imagine that....

Part of Hull's transfer embargo is, or so it has been reported, is that they cannot pay loan fees for a player. Why would would a practice that doesn't happen be embargoed?

Plus, loan fees are regularly reported on, such as this from Sky Sports transfer page.

He had a release clause in his contract last season?

Practically all players contracts have a release clause. In some countries the contract has to have one to make it a legal contract.
