There is no doubt in my mind that Hamer would make us better.

I’m also 100% sure we won’t be in for him and people are going to get upset/angry for no reason.
The bloke from their local paper seems to think it's more likely he leave in the summer.

This season is special, we are not top dog but we are up there with the best and so the type of player we need will be different. Wilson and Hamer are 100% emotional desires. They are both not what we need and offer little in the way of support. Manneh is a 'work in progress' and if was available when the summer window opens, but he is the same as Raphael and Fabio, full of potential but Div 1 ability. We are one of the favourites to go up so we have to bring in someone who can hit the ground running like Grimes and can add to our promotion push and still has the age and ability to be productive in the premiership, should we get there.

Doesn't Doug only sign players to potentially make a profit on? As a club we're not minted. There's no way he splashes money on Hamer.

But by signing a player now, who gets us over the line - would bring a profit on the deal wouldn't it.

Probably seeing his contract out then so he can take a fat signing on fee.

We aren't looking to replace any of the 3 midfielders as they are all good enough when fit and on form. The need is for depth so the drop off in quality isn't as big as it is when 1 or more of them can't play.
If that isxso Hamer is not the answer is he?

Well we've got over half a season of data to look at.

His on the ball stats are actually pretty strong this season, but his defensive ones are dreadful.

His attacking stats are virtually identical to his last season with us, but he makes less defensive contributions this season.

Which is most likely down to a change in position/tactics.

If Hamer had not previously played for us, most of those against signing him would be creaming their pants at the prospect of bringing in such a player for £6m. Many of the references to his weight are based on bitterness surrounding him leaving us, just as West Ham fans are accused towards FL. Hamer simply has a stocky build, and the references to him being unfit are as ridiculous as those that have labelled certain of our players lazy. As for the comparison to Torp if it were him who he would be in competition with, I would say that while Torp is a decent player who had a good start to the season, like much of the team he hasn't played well for a while now, and that Hamer is a much more dynamic and impactful player who would definitely improve us.

Having said all that however, I also think there is next to no chance of him rejoining us :)

I don't think that he's not good anymore, but it isn't an invalid argument to point out that he has dropped off a bit at present. He is out of shape for a top sportsman and anyone saying otherwise is in denial or projecting. I am sure he could be a top player still, but I think it would take some work and time. For what cost?

Playing for us I am sure would give him a boost and some motivation, and if the club and manager feel they can work with him and get him to his best within a decent time frame then I wouldn't say no, but I just cannot see it happening. Then again, if Doug has had too many pints at the Apres-ski, who knows...

That is the model but, given that we are in with a good shout of promotion and looking at the riches on offer if we succeed, I'm sure DK will be happy to go down a different route in this window. Indeed, he already has by getting in two players on loan.

By the way, that doesn't mean that I am suggesting that we will buy Hamer but I do think it possible that we could buy a good quality experienced player who is unlikely to make us a profit on resale.

Starting to think that there will be no further signings this window. A decent result against Leicester and Millwall, and I think that will be the end of it.
But we 5 midfielders to pick 3 from, it won't be enough. We need more if we are serious about this season.

I'd like another midfield but Esse and BTA can play instead of Rudi and are likely to be the players that will play there if Rudi isn't in the team. This means we have 5 players to pick 2 midfielders from (Grimes, Torp, Eccles, Allen, Andrews)
