Hopefully we have an ace up our sleeve. I don't feel like Lampard has been given much in the way of transfer funds, now is the time to loosen the purse.
Very much doubt we will.

I'm guessing that £6M would be all the remaining transfer budget. Gus would be a decent punt, but I think Lampard may want to cover more than one position with new players. The fact that Trabzonspor are in for Gus means we can never compete on wages - so should move on.

If they don't honour it ,they would be sanctioned by UEFA/ FIFA , until they had paid up or come to an agreement.

You get it then loads of hassle and then you end up settling for less. Especially if a player has struggled with form or injury.

Oh well I'm sure we will be consoling ourselves when we sign a Premier league youth player on loan and saiyng "yeah but at least he will be fitter than Hamer! and we have allen and eccles"
If these said players get us promoted then we will all be smiling. Well maybe apart from you as you might have to become positive for a change

Hamer would be great for the next six months to get us over the line (noting of course that his salary would be double what anyone else's currently is). But once we did we'd need someone who was more professional regarding their fitness to make it in the PL.

So if we were to sign a CM, I think I'd rather twist and look for a younger, lesser known, player who looks like they should be capable at that level than stick with the known quantity Hamer.

Would be great if we can find one. Not sure we’ve got the scouts for it these days though.

1. Hamer more than anyone got us to the play offs that year. Just remember the Boro goal. He wanted it.

2. He continued in good form until very recently with Blades.

3. Much as I like Torp, Hamer at his best is different gravy, a game changer

4. We need a better midfield. He is the type of player we need

5. £6m is within our budget - just

Everything seems to shout "go for it". Yet I would not. It is rare for someone to go back and for it to work (Doyle?). There is a fitness question.

In our quest for a better midfield who are we expecting to replace out of our first choice three, or is it just back up for Grimes? Not sure there is a consensus on this.

And that's even before the rumour is confirmed as being true

He won POTS last year.

He has 10x more chance of hitting the ground running that a young overseas player, or loan premier league kid
You keep saying this but a players form is not a consistent metric over their career.

A player can win a player of the season award and then be nowhere near as good the next season so his POTY has very little value when taking into account Hamer's form and fitness this year.

As you where.

We aren't looking to replace any of the 3 midfielders as they are all good enough when fit and on form. The need is for depth so the drop off in quality isn't as big as it is when 1 or more of them can't play.

Like who?
Many players can lose form and not be as good the next season, I am not commenting on a single player, just saying that because a player has won a player of the season the year before than they are playing to the same level the next season.

Rolled back from 'guaranteed' then! the award thing is boring. Ben Wilson won the Golden Glove in 22/23.

Hamer's been immense at this level but there's signs he's spent. His club seem to want rid on the cheap.

I back us to spend a decent chunk on an EMC or Grimes level of player like in the last two Jan windows.
