I am starting to wonder whether he’s just sulking about his status in the squad and looking for a move.
His drop off in form feels like it coincided with the rumours around Bamford training with us. It was claimed that Frank wanted Bamford (but Doug said no). Then it was claimed that we were planning to “go for it” in January (implying we were after another striker).
So, perhaps he thinks / knows Frank doesn’t truly have confidence in him as the main striker. So, in response, he’s told the club he wants off; they’ve said they’ll entertain offers, but only if other teams meet our valuation - and until then he’s still our player and needs to show his value to the team - his hearts not in it, hence the apparent lack of interest / effort.
Hence the new agent - who is trying to drum up interest through media stories that highlight that he might be available (i.e. “West Ham: £200m”
). In reality though, no one has actually come in for him, so we’re stuck with a sulky striker, who is desperately waiting for a move.
Of course, this is all entirely speculative!
Either way, I think he should be on the bench next week.
