You improve the squad by signing a better player than is currently in that position
Be it 4th choice cb or first choice right midfield

Talk about counting your chickens! Let's worry about that when we get there and not gamble that put 1 DM and 2 Wingers stay fit the entire season hey?!
What do you know that the bookies don’t? They have as near-certainties for promotion.

I’ll say it again - we should definitely bring in a winger next month. But pretty much everywhere else we are in good shape - that’s why we’re top of the league!

Ahhh it's all making sense! I was wondering who the Cov fans people accuse of being arrogant were

Thought the play off final was the closest I’d ever see, even think that team was better, but there’s just something special what lampards done with this team, haven’t seen team spirit like it,

If you can’t be confident of promotion when you’re 11 points clear of third place at Christmas, when can you be?

Absolutely loving this season and while I kind of get the desire to be arrogant after years of suffering other team's supporters doing so, I still feel uncomfortable tempting fate. Reading some of the Swansea predictions proclaiming that we will hammer them whatever our team makes me feel uncomfortable, and I would rather downplay our chances so that if we win there is more of an upside. If you think we will win by 3 or 4 you are likely to be disappointed if we win by the odd goal, and the atmosphere at a few of our home games recently has carried an air of entitlement. Luckily FL & the players have remained professional and grounded, which will hopefully continue until we are promoted.

i just can’t see lampard letting us slip, we’ve had this form since he’s been here and just look at Saturday, fringe players who came in stepped up and we should have won that, pretty sure he reminds them every now and again the feeling they had after the play off game, that’ll keep them going

The team spirit is the key. There is another debate elsewhere assessing how much money we should throw around IF we go up. Team spirit is more important

its a tricky one, look at Sunderland who’ve more or less built a whole new team, don’t think there’s any sentiment for the players Who’ve got you up, we’ll need to spend a lot to keep us there, maybe grimes, rudoni. Rushworth , saka,MVE good enough to start but it’s a rebuild everywhere else,we’ve waited 25 years for this, I’d like more than one season back

35 years following Coventry tells me to stay humble and celebrate when it's done.

You have to capitalize on this now it's a huge opportunity and not the time to penny pinch or worry about players feelings too much
Who says we’re not capitalising on it now? My concerns are about capitalising on next season - bringing in players who are worse than what we already have doesn’t help us with that.

Who says we have to bring in worse players? Ipswich for example bring Jack Clarke on for Philogene every week, who have we got to bring on that’s similar quality to EMC or Saka?

See above - I’m happy to bring in a new signing if they’re PL quality, but I don’t expect we’ll sign more than one of those in January and CM wouldn’t be the place I’d say that’s most in need of investment. Our midfield is great.

Bringing in cover for Grimes isn't going to make any meaningful difference to next season. The club could bank hundreds of millions if they pull this off. A loan or shorter deal or even a signing is a drop in the ocean if we do go up but neglecting to do so could jeopardize it all.

Again stop counting your chickens 🤦 11pts could evaporate quicker than you imagine. it's pure madness not to want cover. Borderline trolling I reckon so not going to nibble anymore. Snug in my trust that Lampard will feel the same way

There was a thread where people were saying keep the squad small, don't upset the fringe players etc. I know how I'd feel if I was in Jamie Allen's shoes. He knows he is back up and he's done a fantastic job and will earn his medal if we go up, I'd not be fragile and moan if we brought in players in Jan I'd welcome it see it as boosting my chances of being part of something huge for the club.

Also I think people forget how actually having good back up in Woolfenden has seemingly spurred Kitch & Bobby to new levels. Same goes for Dasilva he was the only LB with any attacking threat, Brau turns up and Jay seems like a totally new man. Competition is good

Just really want a tricky direct winger with some pace.

Think I’d be pretty disappointed if we loaned a L1 player in ngl
The market for the kind of winger you're after is fairly limited though. Rak-Sakyi is a decent shout but think Palace would want a permanent move and it's a risk to pay big fee for a back-up player who probably won't feature much if you're in the Prem next year.

My thoughts in this windowBTA is injured and if Haji goes to Besiktas and Simms to West Ham we’ll be playing me up front 🤣
If the above happened would Frank sit back and let this happen?I think not he would be using the money we recieve to replace them.
My thoughts are buy the odd players we need to get us over the line(promotion). Then assess the situation and bring in players we need and can afford.
Enjoy the ride

With the GD it’s a 7 point gap to 2nd and 12 point gap to 3rd.beat Swansea and Ipswich and it could be a 15 point gap to 3rd in the space of 4 days. Then we’ve got some very favourable games,

I don't think Szmodics is the right fit for Cov either but he was actually alright in the Prem. He played an inside left role, worked hard off the ball and utilised his pace in behind. We were much worse in the second half of the season when he was injured.

He's been moved to the central ten this season and doesn't offer anything in build-up. we massively improved when Nunez moved into that position. I think he's more of a threat playing in sides that don't dominate the ball.

What's your point? Lose to Swansea and Ipswich it could be a a 6pt gap. Let's not penny pinch because we have done well so far, let's hammer it home. Burnley made something like 6 signings in Jan, barely any of them made much impact but they knew they had cover if anything went south. It's an insurance policy.

What’s my point ? That gap could get even bigger You’re being negative and talking about if we lose the next 2, we won’t , and burnley had the money to make 6 signings,

No my point is we have no idea how this will pan out, planning for only the best case is mad. We are not broke Doug has money. I'd imagine the Sheaf fee came as a surprise and we didn't have time to re invest.

Negative to think we can't afford a few re enforcements if anything

I'm sure that's right.

There is also the £10 million we reportedly offered for Hughes, although I wonder if that was partly to be funded by the fee Doug was expecting for MVE (less the cost of KKH) and which of course didn't happen. So maybe it's just the money for Sheaf, less the KKH fee, plus whatever else he can find down the back of his sofa.

I'm sure he will do his best to get in whatever FL thinks we need.

I would be very surprised if the club didn't strengthen in the January window. The golden opportunity to get automatic promotion to the the PL . No point in gambling by not making the necessary signings.

Exactly - those who want to bizarrely penny pinch & not want us to make any signings to get us over the line are either thick or have only started following football this season
