I’m not saying I don’t want better in defence, in the Prem we will 100% need it should we get there. But the money Hughes would cost would be too big a gamble on him making the step up.

It’s not your money, why are you so arsed? If we went up and spend 12-14 million on him it would mean fuck all if we went up

How would it fuck us up, if we didn’t go up he’s one of the best cbs in the league and we go again. Crazy logic
What and lose a lot of our players?

This is our best chance to go up yet, spend any money we have to strengthen where we are weakest, which isn't at CB

@Brighton Sky Blue liking posts about us not needing a cb, shows how clueless the guy living on the south coast is

We are starting to concede too many goals, let’s just hope for your sake we score lots every game to make up for it

Will he?

I'd love him here I'm not saying that but think we are lighter elsewhere

Let's be honest, for a decent 2nd half push, and a PL season (hopefully) were probably still 5 or 6 short at least. LB, CH, CM, LW, RW, ST. We cant finish this season with such a threadbare squad, and if we do, we certainly wont survive a season in the PL with one. We also dont really want a complete overhaul in the summer either. So ideally, of the 5-6 we need, we'd ideally get 3, maybe 4 in this window to give them chance to settle in to the group before the big challenge of next season comes. Whoever we bring in has to be good enough for the step up too. Pointless bringing in a player for a championship push, only for them to warm the bench or go out on loan next season. Another way around that is getting a loan or 2 in, which Bling is very against.

I think hes a very good player in a poor Hull defence.
I'd like to see him here, but the price seams high for a championship player who is still learning his trade.

However, if Thomas is going to be sold, it makes sense to bring him in.

you’ve had a right beer mate

proper throwing your rattle out the pram because no one agrees we should spend £10m on a centre back 🤣
No beers , just pointing out we should be after one of the best cb’s in the league because we’ve got 1 clean sheet in 10 games! Our 50 goals scored is covering over cracks that are starting to open up

Not good enough though according to the sbt experts, playing in a poor hull side

Not saying he's not good enough, but we play a completely different way to Hull with an Incredibly high line. So it's very difficult to judge whether he would be anywhere near as effective for us. He played really well against us first game of the season but they played a low block and he spent most of the game defending the 6 yard box.

The me the issue is we leave the 2 CBs exposed too often, especially when we lose the ball in transition, the full backs are too high leaving massive gaps at the back.

I do wonder is Lampard and co just can’t set up a defence. Adi and Robins couldn’t really until Lawrence arrived.

It’s really very basic. You either commit to having a solid defence by playing four players there who prioritise defending. Or you go for our model of playing two defenders at CH and two full backs who are better going forward than defending. There are merits in both. But if you go for the latter you’ll always concede - as we do.

Last night's game should have been a clean sheet if we hadn't got complacent and thought the game was won, with a back 3 in the first half we looked solid but that's not our normal game plan, which is to score more goals than the opposition, simple as that.

We are not dropping circa £15m on centre half in Jan. other priorities in short term.

also, remember Hughes is in team who have conceded circa 2 goals a game and one of highest in league……..

Hughes is a good player. Hull have decided that with everything stacked against them in the summer that the best way to attack the season was to really go for it. They are incredibly open but i doubt they'd be any higher playing to shut up shop every game and this is probably more fun for the fans. Could argue we do similar but obviously to better effect and with more cohesion. I'm not sure he'd improve our defence massively immediately.
