'We WILL probably get promoted this year'? It's not definite though is it?
No, but if we’re not signing players to take us forward, what’s the point? In Jan, we really can’t afford to sign ‘project’ players, they need to be starting calibre

I doubt there’d be many J-League players who can come in and start for top Championship from Day 1. The standard of the league isn’t that good, hence the majority of the Japanese internationals play in Europe.

Probably because all their best players end up in Korea or Europe.

I reckon 3 at the most and maybe a random u21s signing, will be interesting to see if Brau gets a loan, cant seem to get any minutes lately even with shortage of numbers

He would probably like 5 but realistically will be two or three.
I would like one of those to be a real statement signing

He’s acutely aware that our biggest threat is an injury crisis, not the quality of other teams. Probably wants all the bases covered in January but the glaring ones are out wide, in central midfield and perhaps left back too.

Really need to keep Wright fit when he’s back though, Simms is in great form but he can’t keep going for 90 minutes all throughout this month.

We have loads of central midfielders and loads of left backs?

I would've thought he'll be back in contention for Saturday's game. FL said all being well he was only likely to miss the next couple of games after West Brom.

We have only one left back who Lampard is really happy enough to start. Central midfield I just want insurance against an injury to Rudoni/Torp/Grimes, Lampard probably does too.

We likely do need another one really. Eccles has clearly been earmarked as a AM and behind Torp is Allen (who does deputise very well but probably can't be relied upon long-term) and then Andrews who isn't ready. So we're lacking an 8. Perhaps one that can play 8 and 6. The drop off if Torp is injured is just too great IMO.

Left back is tricky as we'll have to move out Bidwell and Brau to make room which won't be easy, but if Dasilva were to pick up a fairly long-term injury that would leave us very vulnerable on the left hand side.

Bidwell is past his sell by date and FL clearly doesn't think Brau is anywhere near ready to feature at this stage - baring in mind he hasn't played a single minute of football in two months.

I imagine he’s happy to start Bidwell if something happened to Dasilva.

Insurance against injuries is all well and good but if you want better insurance than we currently have (Eccles, Allen and the rest) then it will cost a not insignificant sum, and this season’s backups will likely be totally obsolete next season.

Sound we shouldn’t bother signing anyone then

Just how I think Lampard sees it. It’s the biggest threat to our best chance at a top flight return this century, I want it mitigated.

I would say 2 at most.

As much as you’ve got to prepare for injuries, you also have to prepare for everyone being fit.

A lot of people to keep happy, a lot of people to justify a wage/price tag…might not be the mix we want in such an important season.

Injuries between now and then will play a huge part in it but at the very minimum we need a quality winger, we are really lacking that option as a sub at the moment.

We clearly need a couple of players up front and out wide where we literally don’t have any real cover. But when you’re 13 points clear at the top of the league, our biggest “need” in the window isn’t players for this season, it’s players for next season.

Feels very dangerous to see the title as won in November.

We definitely need a midfield player that can come on a change a game if necessary

Do we? We already have several imo.

Assuming you’re right, presumably you would only consider signing a player who would be good enough to play in the PL next season?

Well yes preferably. Could do a loan with a buy clause if promoted like Sunderland did with Le Fee

If the rumours are correct, we seem to be linked to young, skilful players who can improve and move right onto the bench and effect games if they come on. So far a 10 behind the strikers and an 11 in old money.
The fuck it, lets score even more policy.

I for one wouldn’t at all be happy to start Bidwell anymore. We have seen the drop off too many times and we have moved on from him as a “solid left back” it’s not us anymore.
