Probably wasn't happy at all with Saturday's performance and wants to steady the ship a bit, or maybe a few players need a rest and it's the best outcome

1:1 defending has never been a particular problem for him, his low centre of gravity means that he's generally pretty good in the tackle and against a tricky winger. His biggest weakness is getting caught blind sided and thankfully that isn't happening as much, some of it down to him and some of it tactical most probably.

Yeah never had a issue with 1 v 1 with him, just had an issue with him being in the wrong starting position to really place himself with the advantage. He is now less tucked in and is squarer to the play therefore reacts quicker to make up the ground of any cross field pass. His distancing is way better, which has to of come from the training pitch.

He was a frustrating watch last season, but fair play has held his own 1st 10 games. Still think its a position we can improve on and hope we will in Jan.

Tbf Simms and BTA were part of that 9-10 game winning streak last season. I think it’s a pretty strong lineup.

We still have Bidwell and Eccles can put in a shift in defence if needed

3 at the back is showing Pompey a lot of respect. Probably not a bad plan to be honest. Tricky fixture. Keep them quiet for an hour see where we are and send on the troops if needs be

This looks like very sensible tactics. 3 at the back to work together against a Pompey side that always has that rush of blood at home. We nulify that first half, maybe get the lead, change formation back again with Wright on 60 minutes, and run out comfortable winners.
Clearly Frank wants to supress Pompey and frustrate them into submission first.
