I wish he’d just died and I didn’t hear about it. I’ve had the only Lostprophets song I know in my head all fucking night. The mind can be a c**t sometimes.

what Ian Watkins did was one of the most horrific things I've ever read about. Parents of the kids involved enabled him to do it which was f*cking mindblowing.
And legally they were not allowed to be identified... They have probably settled back into society and have resumed somewhat of a normal life

I used to work with an ex-Wakefield prison officer when I lived up North - Bare in mind if you are in Wakefield you are bottom of the barrel scum and the worst that society has to offer, probably serving 20 years+ - She said namechecked the two prisoners she encountered in her time that made her utterly sick the most in her interactions with them, one being Watkins and the other Mick Philpott

Watkins apparently still received fan mail for years after he was put away

What was going on in these interactions if you don't mind me asking?

I didn't press her too much, but she said that whilst they are scum most lifers just kept their heads down and try to stay out of trouble as they are always looking over their shoulder, particularly if they have been convicted of crimes involving a child

But she said Watkins loved his his notoriety and fame, the fact that somehow he still had a core of fans of his music on the outside and as mentioned earlier was still receiving fan mail and proposals of marriage in the post - and that he was still a wealthy man through monies accumulated in royalties

And she said Philpott (He was the bloke from Derby who torched his house and killed his kids) was a complete narcissist who had convinced himself it was a sham trial and how one day the person who killed his kids will be brought to justice and he will be a free man and they will make a movie about his life

Didn't really ask much more else, can imagine she had some stories to tell but didn't know her well enough to ask for anymore

Seems a bit of a waste of time for someone nobody will miss. I guess they have to and there's probably too much CCTV and too many threats of disciplinary action for prison staff to all go 'no idea what happened'.

Will probably turn out to be a couple of lifers anyway, if so makes it an even bigger waste of time.

The two people charged are high-profile murderers and rapists themselves. One of them kidnapped a woman on her way to work and raped her five times.

You have to apply the law though. You can't go around letting people get away with murder, even if they are a c***. Otherwise it's just a matter of who's in charge deciding who the c**** are who are allowed to be killed.

And more cynically, it looks good for the stats because they can put down that they've solved this murder, even though it's obvious.

Says it all really when people like that, rightly, think you are the scum of the earth and not deserving of life.

Was about to say the same

salt of the earth these two

In 2018, Dodsworth admitted kidnap, false imprisonment and five counts of rape. He was sentenced to 24 years. Gedel was found guilty in 2023 of murder and wounding with intent. He was acquitted of attempted murder. Originally from Ilford, east London, Gedel was jailed for life with a minimum term of 27 years in August the same year.

As I mentioned earlier in the thread - You ain’t in for a petty crime if you are in Wakefield, you are also the worst that society has to offer, so you have to be careful putting these blokes on a pedestal

They only did it cause he owed them a drug debt, not through revulsion of his crimes

Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
