How do transfers of managers work financially if they’re under contract? I think in the past I’ve heard it described as compensation rather than a transfer fee as you would a player.

I know we speculate about players transfer value. How would it work if Lampard was poached / what would you estimate his worth to be now and compared to if he signed a new 3-year contract?

I think the thing to bear in mind, is that he doesn't need the money.

That is a huge part of why I'm optimistic.

If he was a standard manager, he might be swayed by a few thousand extra a week. But given he was paid thousands upon thousands upon thousands to play.

I'd say we only need to worry about good projects, rather than good money. For instance, Forest is good money but working for a wanker, West Ham is a huge club but working for tight bastards, Wolves are broke, Burnley are miles further on from London, Brentford are run bu stats and not manager per se and everyone else is Championship level and at the minute below us...

Lampard touched on this subject in a previous interview. Football is the love of his life. He mentioned how difficult it was to give up his playing career. Going from a world class player to an ex player wasn't easy. But now being a manager at a club where the supporters are fully behind him is the next best thing. Look at the way he celebrates with the players. He's enjoying every minute.

Like others I'm more worried about him leaving to take the England role more than a Prem side. With us he has the support of the owner and our own supporters letting our feelings known about him. He has a very good squad of players. He is secure here as we don't change our manager every season. Why leave all this to take a gamble? He chose us out of several job offers.

Christine was on Loose Women this week saying how much Frank loves Coventry and has taken to the City.

The signs that FL is enjoying his time here and wants to prove himself is quite apparent as evidenced by:
1) The way FL wholeheartedly joins in post game celebrations with players and fans
2) The different interviews I’ve watched him discuss different things - whether it be recruitment plans, player fitness and his genuine interest to be here when he took the job last November
3) How single-minded and driven he’s been since he came - the on-field improvements have been clear in how Rudoni, Torp, Da Silva have improved immensely under his leadership; off the field he’s used his clout to recruit Grimes, KKH, Woolf

Lastly, seeing a tweet of his kid fully kitted out in Coventry gear is really gratifying.

I think he’s a really intelligent person and has learned a great deal from his past experiences. He’s much more down to earth than I thought he would be. It would behoove DK to tie him down to a long term contract and arm him with a significant war chest for Jan.

We do need to keep Lampard under contract. But thinking a long contract would keep him with us? The clubs that could become interested in him being their manager can spend more on one player than the value of our football club.

Our best way of keeping him is giving him what he needs to keep us competitive. He is a winner. I can't see him wanting to be a part of a club that's only an also ran. Get us to the Prem then establish us as a Prem side.

There's more to life than money especially when you already have more than enough

The contract is irrelevant when it comes to another team wanting him. Extending his contract would only ensure we get a bit more compensation if it were to happen. As people have pointed out Frank isn't short of a few quid so he's far more likely to stay here longer if Doug keeps supporting him and investing in the team. Would people rather Frank get a £15k payrise or that Doug makes that available to Frank to bring in another player?

That's a stretch from what I mean.

I just dont think a few extra grand is the driving force behind his decision making. Financial freedom gives you the ability to pick and choose jobs, not rush to the next one because they're paying more.

While a manager should has come from league 2 or lacks the playing background may feel that an extra few grand is worth jumping ship for.

This really doesn’t need a discussion at this moment in time but Frank needs a project! He needs something to prove what a good manger he is and how he has elevated the performances of a club competing to become “hopefully” a premiership side. Once he has achieved this, he may then put himself on the market for a big club, but who knows, and I do think his long term ambition will be to one day manage England. I see him “at the moment” very much like Kieron McKenna at Ipswich and how rumours were strong about him moving following an unbelievable rise to the top and even when they came down.
so let’s not worry about this now and just enjoy the ride, as I am loving it 🩵

I agree with you - more money -likely to move on, but at the same token,his current financial situation means he can select his clubs carefully. it was thought he was approached by other clubs prior to us. ultimately the squad was a decent squad with us (top 6 deck) and he fancied it being relatively easy for him to move the club forward.

For instance - Rangers bigger club than us, could probably pay more, but lets face it - the headache isn't worth it.

It's something we will only find out if and when it happens. With us he has the chance of getting us to the Prem then keeping us there. He has a chairman that backs him, players who give their all for him and supporters that see him as their hero. He is getting all the adulation as manager as he did as a player. He enjoys watching the players improve under his guidance.

It would take a big club to tempt him. They most probably wouldn't be doing well. If he couldn't sufficiently turn things around he could easily be out of a job. Maybe he will only stay for as long as his contract is. But whatever happens we'll be in a much better position when he leaves than when he joined.

Yes, wasn't Robins at the time the second longest current manager in EFL/EPL? Doug seemed prepared to stick with him after the Adi fall out until it became an issue with how the team was performing and the backroom setup. He's backed Frank with the coaches he wants and as long as we're challenging for the play offs (assuming that is still Dougs red line) he's got stability. Won't have that much give and take in the PL with so much money at stake.

Frank might not need the money but reputation will drive him, what better way to say you're a top coach and manager getting us flying high on our budget. Very glad to hear from others here that he's "loving" his time at Cov, I guess our current form is part of that, but he really does appear to have settled in.

In terms of quality the SPL is the worst it's been in decades.

I genuinely see zero appeal in taking up a managerial job there, certainly not against a promotion chasing side in the Championship.

I don't think his reputation has a player has much to do with it to be honest.

In fact if anything his reputation as a player is what helped him in his early career to get the jobs he landed.

His prior record in the PL, which FWIW isn't as bad as it's made out to be, is what's preventing him from being picked up by a top flight club.
